Hmmm... So if I got this straight, there's two teams: Horrific Eldritch Body Horror Demons and Horrific Eldritch Glowy Space Angels, of which Neilethotep is the former and his love interest (I didn't see her name anywhere, sorry) is the latter. She ran, not because she was afraid of what "Neil" truly was, but because of his rank as some kind of greater demon (full on wings, multilimbs, tentacles, three eyes, split jaw, spatial distortion) rather than just a lower ranking (with just the neck, ears, eyes and tail thing). And it wasn't that she was scared but that she initially panicked since not only was he an enemy force, but he was also a very powerful one. After rationalizing that to herself behind the wall, the prospect of their... future, secret love(?) that she would try to continue later excited her, before returning to her true form and rejoining her Horrific Eldritch Glowy Space Angel squad.

If anyone didn’t realize this there is a secret message at the start ending at 0:31 I know that most likely over half of people that watched this knew about this secret but I watched it at least 10 times and didn’t realize (also message to the creator if they even see this but I just want to say you made a wonderful animation)
This is what I have gleaned from the story from re-watching a handful of times: The Aurora Borealis opens two(?) portals to Earth (one is discovered in the first 20 seconds of the video by a scientist), and the inhabitants of these two other worlds behind these portals have declared war on each other. Our two main characters featured throughout are both monsters, but from opposing worlds, so they're dating in secret/in human form. One "faction" has a symbol of an open eye with demon horns, which is the faction that Neilathotep (the monster-neil singing the song throughout the video, his name is on a stocking at 2:38) is a part of. This "demon-eye" group is visually represented by fleshy or bloody monsters, like someone stripped apart a human and made them into an amorphous creature (think Sarkic cults from the scp foundation eg scp 610). (example monsters, 0:50 fleshy birds, 1:56 all onscreen minus moth monster) The other faction has the symbol of a closed eye (resembling the eye of Horus, with a squiggle underneath) in front of a pale sun/moon. The monsters that are from this group are angelic-esque, with multiple sets of wings, halos and various glowing areas. This is the group that the female character is a part of. (example monsters 2:004:00) Throughout the video, Neilathotep is sharing with the female character (unsure of her name, may also be hidden in video somewhere) things he enjoys doing and experiencing as a date. Both have foreshadowing for their being monsters in the video, eg Neil in the graveyard, his shadow changes and reveals his true self (at 1:25) and the girl is texted by her monster friends (from her faction, showing the little symbol I talked about earlier) asking "where the hell are you?!" (at 2:02) which shows that this interaction is secret - which may be why she seems distressed when Neil reveals his true form slowly throughout the video because they are supposed to be at war with eachother. (or alternatively, revealing your monster form like Neil is doing in the end is sort of like bringing a gun to bed - kind of unsettling for the other person who has to worry about whether you're going to shoot them or not, which is why he is singing about how he always messes up). That's my theory, anyways, might not be 100% correct. Feel free to add anything, from easter eggs to your own theories :) I can tell the creator put lots of work into this project and it really shows when I took the time to watch multiple times to unpick it. Lots of easter eggs to Neil Cicierega's stuff everywhere!

C F I think I figured it out. Remember he news report “Several hostile worlds declare war on each other with Earth as a battlefield.” Their worlds were at war. That must be why she doesn’t freak out until he reveals his full form. She’s used to seeing strange creatures but that specific creature was the enemy. Since she received a text earlier, most likely from one of her friends we see later, asking where she was I think it’s pretty clear that she wasn’t supposed to be there when the fighting broke out, and instead of evacuating was, unknowingly, fraternizing with the enemy. Who knows what consequences that she could face if her friends knew?

So if I got this straight, there's two teams: Horrific Eldritch Body Horror Demons and Horrific Eldritch Glowy Space Angels, of which Neilethotep is the former and his love interest (I didn't see her name anywhere, sorry) is the latter.
She ran, not because she was afraid of what "Neil" truly was, but because of his rank as some kind of greater demon (full on wings, multilimbs, tentacles, three eyes, split jaw, spatial distortion) rather than just a lower ranking (with just the neck, ears, eyes and tail thing). And it wasn't that she was scared but that she initially panicked since not only was he an enemy force, but he was also a very powerful one. After rationalizing that to herself behind the wall, the prospect of their... future, secret love(?) that she would try to continue later excited her, before returning to her true form and rejoining her Horrific Eldritch Glowy Space Angel squad.

This is what I have gleaned from the story from re-watching a handful of times:
The Aurora Borealis opens two(?) portals to Earth (one is discovered in the first 20 seconds of the video by a scientist), and the inhabitants of these two other worlds behind these portals have declared war on each other. Our two main characters featured throughout are both monsters, but from opposing worlds, so they're dating in secret/in human form.
One "faction" has a symbol of an open eye with demon horns, which is the faction that Neilathotep (the monster-neil singing the song throughout the video, his name is on a stocking at 2:38) is a part of. This "demon-eye" group is visually represented by fleshy or bloody monsters, like someone stripped apart a human and made them into an amorphous creature (think Sarkic cults from the scp foundation eg scp 610).
(example monsters, 0:50 fleshy birds, 1:56 all onscreen minus moth monster)
The other faction has the symbol of a closed eye (resembling the eye of Horus, with a squiggle underneath) in front of a pale sun/moon. The monsters that are from this group are angelic-esque, with multiple sets of wings, halos and various glowing areas. This is the group that the female character is a part of.
(example monsters 2:00 4:00)
Throughout the video, Neilathotep is sharing with the female character (unsure of her name, may also be hidden in video somewhere) things he enjoys doing and experiencing as a date. Both have foreshadowing for their being monsters in the video, eg Neil in the graveyard, his shadow changes and reveals his true self (at 1:25) and the girl is texted by her monster friends (from her faction, showing the little symbol I talked about earlier) asking "where the hell are you?!" (at 2:02) which shows that this interaction is secret - which may be why she seems distressed when Neil reveals his true form slowly throughout the video because they are supposed to be at war with eachother. (or alternatively, revealing your monster form like Neil is doing in the end is sort of like bringing a gun to bed - kind of unsettling for the other person who has to worry about whether you're going to shoot them or not, which is why he is singing about how he always messes up).
That's my theory, anyways, might not be 100% correct. Feel free to add anything, from easter eggs to your own theories :)
I can tell the creator put lots of work into this project and it really shows when I took the time to watch multiple times to unpick it. Lots of easter eggs to Neil Cicierega's stuff everywhere!

Even though your animation can be jerky at times, your style and animation bring back quite a nostalgia in me. It reminds me of eddsworld animation/style, even though they're not that similar. Maybe it's your colors? Either way, I love this, despite my picky nature.

C F I think I figured it out. Remember he news report “Several hostile worlds declare war on each other with Earth as a battlefield.” Their worlds were at war. That must be why she doesn’t freak out until he reveals his full form. She’s used to seeing strange creatures but that specific creature was the enemy. Since she received a text earlier, most likely from one of her friends we see later, asking where she was I think it’s pretty clear that she wasn’t supposed to be there when the fighting broke out, and instead of evacuating was, unknowingly, fraternizing with the enemy. Who knows what consequences that she could face if her friends knew?
