    Lucky you!! I remember I had a very base model Popular 950, X reg bought new from a main dealer! So basic it had grey vinyl seats, rubber floor, no carpet at all, no passenger wing mirror, no heated rear screen, no rear wiper, and to get water to the front screen I had to pump a button down on the floor next to the clutch! Oh, and no passenger visor or parcel shelf! But I loved it in Dove Grey. Really looking forward to your journey with your find!

    I replaced the radiator on my mum’s Caribbean Blue 1982 Fiesta Popular Plus for about £30 when I was a sixth form college in 1990. Brings back memories…

    Great! My dad had a 1983 957cc Popular, last of the line before the Mk2 came out with a few extras thrown in such as rear wash wipe. He had it from 1992-97 and there will still plenty around back then. I drove it for a few months after passing my test in 96 and lots of people had them as a first car at that time. Then, suddenly, they all pretty much disappeared almost overnight.

      Yeah, you're right, apart from a few elderly-owned oddities that soldiered on for a bit longer.

    Always loved the mk1 fiesta. Had the brochures when I went visiting car shows in the early 80s. My best friend at the times mum had a gold/brown one and i had regular trips to school in it. Remember the dashboard! That's a great example of one. Epic seat colour. Shame about those dreadful mirrors though 😂

      @MorselsAndMotors  Рік тому +2

      I've had the brochures for years, and coveted them for the last decade or so. I wish I could have kept my grandmother's one: I hated it at the time but would love it now!

    Wow this takes me back! I had 2 x 1.1L, my first was a V reg very much like the one you have, but it was blue inside and out, then my Y reg one was two tone colour with a beige interior, with a radio and a clock even headrests! Happy days 😎

    Wow that’s incredible Sion don’t see many of those anymore! Looks a great base for a project too, My cousin had a Mk1 Bravo when I was growing up it was burgundy over silver with the same wheels as yours just with chrome embellishers on them

    My first car 1.1L had a Dell'Orto replacement carb fitted, my mechanic neighbour told me that the original carbs weren't much good. It would cut out in very cold weather as the carb sat higher than the original (the fuel got too thick in the cold). The points always needed attention as they would work loose. I became an expert in heel and toeing to keep the revs up while slowing down. Yours looks lovely, I am so envious, I hope you enjoy owning it. Mine was called Juan because they were built in Spain.

    • @MorselsAndMotors
      @MorselsAndMotors  Рік тому +1

      I’m excited to see how this one drives. I’m going to overhaul the carb and ignition system so hopefully it will be reliable. Mine was also built in Spain, but I haven’t thought of a name yet

    Definitely delicious! 😋 My first car was a 1979 Mk1 Golf (Rabbit here) entirely red: the paint, the seats, headliner, dash, even the steering wheel. Much of it had faded to a milky pink though.

    I’m so excited to see your latest purchase. My first car was a Mk1 82/Y Fiesta 950cc Pop Plus in 1998. It was woefully slow and being a 17 year old I gave that thing abuse, but it never wanted to die 😂.
    Look forward to future updates on this one, hope those mirrors disappear very quickly 🤣.

    Great purchase. Watching this video transports me back to the mid to late 80s and going in the back of my grandmother’s T reg Fiesta 1.1L. Hers was harvest gold (at least that’s what she called it) and immaculate. No seat belts in the back, and hers had black and white hounds tooth seats. I think the L only had a driver’s side door mirror. Sadly she traded it in for a 1988 Volvo 340 DL in 1992 after she was in a crash in my grandfather’s H reg 340 and the police told them they’d not have survived it in the Fiesta. I did have a day off school to go with her to the Volvo garage to choose the 340 at least. Different times! She was always very sad to see the Fiesta go, and I wish I could remember it’s full number plate, as I’m sure it would have survived a good while. BBH ???T RIP! It would be nice to think all those spares came from her old car! Good luck with the restoration.

    I bought one in the 90`s for £120, it needed a clutch, towed it home, replaced the clutch, didn`t put the driveshafts in, started the car, stopped the car, looked at the gearbox, cleaned the mess and gearbox oil up from the floor, then went off to the scrap yard for a new Gearbox which wasn`t expensive.👍

    Oooohhhh a Mk1 Fiesta. They're so rare now, great find and great interior too! I have never driven a 1970s nor 1980s Fiesta but the first car I drove when I had my driving licence was a Mk3 Escort 1.1L with the same engine as in the Fiesta. Was quite noisy 😅

    I had my first driving lesson in a Mk1 Fiesta 1.1L. I also owned a Mk1 Fiesta back in the 90’s, which I bought as a second car.
    The black paint on the top of the sill inside the door shut is something the previous owner has done. On the Fiesta I owned it was body colour above the top edge of the sill.
    Look forward to seeing the restoration. They were basic but fun cars to drive.

    My parents had one of these back in the 80's, it had an odd quirk where if you pulled the choke out fully it would stay fully on even when the choke had been pushed back in and the car would die after a couple of minutes. It actually saved the car from being stolen once as the thieves abandoned the car in the next street when it ground to a halt.

    It has a 2 speed fan, you need to push it down again for the second speed, and the dash side vents were standard on all models, the rear quater cards have the holes in for factory speakers, and cigarette lighter was an option on L models,

    • @MorselsAndMotors

    I had a Fiesta 1.1L on a V plate for my work at the time. It was a low mileage 3 year old car and was terrific to drive. I don't think the mark 2 was as comfortable in my humble opinion. The 1.1L would do over 90 mph too.

  • @stevenmoran4060

    Blimey, that has so much potential. A future FotU entry perhaps? I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off cleaning it! 1.1L seems a bit decadent for you though. ;)
    Mala Engineering are still at that location in North London. Surprisingly, when I looked on streetview, there is a White Fiesta Mk.4 parked outside in 2008. No Mk.1 though. Kinda glad, that would have been a bit too weird!

    Superb find & remarkable condition, considering not German built or ziebarted, posh 1.1L as well. Mk1’s were more solid than mk2’s by the 1990’s. Great price to allow sorting it out mechanically & tidying the bodywork. I am sure those black painted door sills are not original. Excellent addition to your 1980s supermini collection & I look forward to the resto

    I love ford my mom had the same car during the 80s but after todays version's of cars you can see the lack of design and engineering skills in mid 80s cars. I mean direct from the manufacturer it's almost like some of the interior was just cobbled together with what wmever stock was available

    My uncle had a Cosmos Blue 950 L in the mid 80's. I used to love help him tinker with it. I feel that if it is to maintain its original spec. like the Metro, it would only be receiving a single door mirror.

    • @MorselsAndMotors
      @MorselsAndMotors  Рік тому +2

      I would agree, but as there are holes in the passenger door already to take a mirror, I think it will be neater to cover them with a correct passenger mirror (an optional extra)
