My best mate used to have one of them back in the day, when we would walk out of clubs he pressed the alarm key for the lights to flash and girls would want to go home with him. Honestly it was ridiculous
Lovely little motor. A friend of mine years ago bought a brand spanker drove it from the garage to the pub where me and my mate was to show it off. He took us for a spin and my mate puked up all over the back seat 😂😂😂 He was gutted and still went on about it 10 years later haha !

I owned one of these for 1 week and I can honestly say I never stopped driving it........a trader I knew payed 450 for it and was too scared to leave it at his home address for the fear of having it stolen (Smiths Wood Birmingham). I had it off him for 650 and I flipped it for 850......must have been 1997. God I wish I still had it...... If I knew then what I know now eh.....
Any sills left under the side skirts ? I remember taking mine off back in the day and there was no metal left underneath. Had to scrap it in the end :( (About 16 years ago)

Still miss my black 86 xr2, wrecked by a friend 20years ago. Put a simoni xhoust system on it did help for better topspeed. Live in northern part of norway, good winter car, fast little car, good grip when going fast on twistys road, had newer cars that i had no chanse to go as fast as i did with the fiesta except on the straigts. Been searching for another one, but they were rear even when new here in norway, lots of xr3 and almost non xr2, never seen another xr2 but mine here, only one that i mett in northern part of sweeden, also a black 86mod. Loved that car

SALVAGE FLIPPERS Take the spare out and have a look around there, that’s where my 2nd xr2 went. And it smoked like a chimney valve stem seals. Oh and throw a cam belt on it it’s worth it for the sake of a tenner .
I convinced my mam to buy one because she was Sick of having no power to overtake. First time she drove it she toed it in 5th past a car loving it then shit when she seen she was doing over 100mph up a hill! 🤣 I used to love borrowing it too.❤️💛💚👍
One of my first motors was a black mk1 1.1 fiesta finesse,was a lovely well finished car,same sunroof as urs,used to take it out and store in the boot on hot days,my only gripe was it was a bugger to start on way home from work,was ford's automatic v v slide choke system, fired up great first thing and run good then parked it at work,come back 5 o clock she just refused to start,I managed to get a fresh weber carburettor off a mk3 escort with manual choke-problem solved,thanks for good memories,I went on to have 3 mk1's best of the bunch in my opinion, would have give my right arm for a black mk1 xr2... 👍
I had a brand new white Xr2 in 1986 E186 MFD I was 19 at the time, six months later had a little bump when a golf pulled out but was repaired easily enough by Hodgsons Ford Penkridge staffs, great little car and was like a go cart at the time 😎

I had a black one on a 85 plate. Gas flowed and ported head, cam, exhaust, K&N filter, Spax adjustable suspension, pug 106 wheels, stitched Ricaros. When like mad and handled so well. Out of all the fords ive owned, rs turbos, 1600i, the xr2 was my favourite. Will have one again soon.

I had a black one of these B reg, first of the MK 2s I was 21 years old, minter.............so I thought, until it’s first MOT when I realised I had been done, entire floor was rusted out, filled and sealed over, I was gutted, could not afford to repair it, 😩 after much tears my dad agreed to help me sort it out, many weeks, grinding, scrounging metal, and welding my dad fabricated a brand new floor, battery tray, and wings, he also had the engine out gave it a port and a polish and a few mods, carb tune and we got it up to 126bhp (felt so fast at the time.) sadly married life put pay to may little XR2, I would love a MK1 super sport now, that was my boy hood dream car.
The first brand new car I ever bought. Had to sell it to help buy my first property, but had 10 months of memorable fun. Great little cars. I actually wish I still had it.
And me I had one of them and a xr3i 50 for xr3i and 45 for the xr2 then I done a deal and had a Ford fiesta RS turbo and I'm gutted I didn't put it in a garage and keep it 😢😭 would have been worth loads of money now it was mint aswell 👍

I’m also from Glasgow and I’m honestly shocked that there was any XR2’s left here never mind one that’s so original and in fairly good health, nearly every 80’s & 90’s hot hatch’s are extinct now due to the poor weather and salt on the roads, but they were all killed off by joyriders who then dumped and torched them when the fuel ran out and the polis were coming. It's mental isn't it. Prices now. I sold a mk1 golf gti LHD 1.6 mechanicly amazing. Bbs body kit coil overs pas fitted. Looking a bit rusty for £300 15 years ago and even in the state it was in it'd be worth 6k easy.

Hiya Grant, I'm so sorry for you that you're having to sell the 3dr Rep cos n the Festa van, I rather like the look of the van, the seats from the RS1800/XR3i 130 certainly a change from your Recaro preference, and I bet theyre rare things these days. I've seen those led lights on a couple of motors round here, it was a shock to see them as these look particularly BMW esque with their rings. There's a running, blue Triumph Herald round Leeds with them on and a most distinctive green Hillman Humber near the White Rose Centre with black vinyl roof in an unrestored state with them fitted and it looks fabulous!! Like I said mate,, I'm so very sorry, keep ur chin up and I hope you're fortunes get better soon. Maybe u could do a Festa RS1800 as they themselves must be rare but obvs pales into insignificance to the "proper" RS1800 with BDA!!! Again on the timeline of the van and the RS1800 there paths must have crossed with a certain French car that would be bigger, faster, more economical, comfier and now rarer, a certain Citroën ZX Volcane!!! (I wish you could find one!) Soz Ford fans but barring a cossie at the time the ZX (in my eyes) was top dog(whether id swap my beloved furloughed foci tdci for a mint ZX I dunno that's how good they are! ) . I had the dubious pleasure of owning both the MKI and the MKII of the XR2's back in the mid to late 80's and they both were bad for rot in the inner wings and sills. I see yours has the K&N too which my MKII had done before I got mine, which was a popular mod for the amateur tinkerer. All in all you've got yourself a decent little runner mate. I hope it gives you a lot of smiles coz they are great wee drivers when pressed a bit.
I had a red one.......loved it. Mind you I called it 'Red 1' cos it smoked like a Red Arrows hawk. Once the bonnet and wings started to rot I sorted it up to a fashion and primed it in yellow.....then it looked like a Messerchmitt 109!!!!
love it :) so many memories came flooding back, i had a white F reg with black and chrome RS 4 spokes from a mk2 RS 2000 and a chrome K&N filter, i had no licence at the time and was well known by the local police officer who drove a mk3 astra van and he seen me driving it early hours in the morning and because i was young and stupid i decided not to stop and he chased me all around my estate but i managed to lose him and just as i got the car back on my drive and was closing my front door a couple of police cars pulled up outside so i ran upstairs and jumped in bed, they started banging on my door so i went to the window and told them i had been in bed all night , they didnt have cameras back then so couldnt prove it was my car they were chasing even though they knew it was haha, i would love to get another but they are way too expensive , i only paid £500 for the one i had
It is in great condition for a 32 year old car and fantastic tp have all that paperwork with 8 owners. No holes for aftermarket speakers in the parcel shelf, what is all thar about. Overall a great buy Grant and please do your bodywork magic and make it look fantastic again. Engine sounds so sweet 👌👌
It was great on see the XR2 once again with minimal damage after all those years I also had one from new on D plate when seeing yours it brought back many happier days of driving around pounding the tarmac ahaha was a thrilling car to drive due to it twin choke system 👍
That is my kind of car. I used to have a 1986 one in red, one of the best cars I have owned and wished I still had it. That is going to make someone a lovely car when you have completed the works.
I had one in diamond white back in the early 90's, a no side repeater model, 1985, C34SRF, lived in Cardiff at the time, came out one morning, gone. Not the quickest car ever, but then only 96 bhp from the cvh engine.
When I was a boy the dream was a white 3dr, green mk2 rs2000 and a black mk2 xr2...with the saff, mk2 sport and now this youre pretty much living my dream👊😂
Now then, I thought you'd dissappeared!! XR2 looks very nice, I like the pepper pots, you never see those examples with wheel trims that look like alloys at all ever do you? You've bought a nice car there, and no you shouldn't sell it unless the new keeper promises to keep it original. The trim reminds me of a similar one in (as ever) one of my dad's motors. He had a black D reg XR3i as I'd begged and begged for 2 years for him to try anutha (more reliable hopefully) 3i rather than the hopeless mk3 a reg one. It was a nice car and dad kept it 2 years, had a recall and full replacement of clutch I recall, but no dramas. The scort was swapped for a Sapphire 2.0 GLS with RS boot spoiler, v nice, both of which had the red pin stripe just like the Festa has. I'm impressed, for your next mission should you choose to accept, would be (apart from the Zx!!!!) to find a XR4i and or a XR4x4 next please. Black 4i and a white 4x4 please!! Be careful, you tease! @@grantssmartrepairs I remember the performance ford mag highlighting the system 2 litre for xr2 and 3 not to mention a turbo technics version, wasn't there a very rare cabriolet version too? , made by a Suvvern coachbuilder who did capri cabs too, cant rem name. Incidentally the halifax garage that was much better than dewsbury one also memorably had some customer care issues mind, dad recalled to me as he was waiting for the scort in reception listening to a poor woman with a 2 mth old mk 2 Festa pop plus (1.1) in tears as it was using a litre of oil a day and they couldn't care less!! They were a bit like that when we returned there(only local RS, dealer other than Polar at Bradford) (&:again in 95 for the rare RS2000 4x4 which I test drove too {aged 22})for the vroom vroom Rst. Simpler times eh? Also recall test drive in Rst up to 95, mph easy on hfx by pass under m62 (50 limit now!!), we had to go to garages warehouse at Salter Hebble Hill(a bloody mcds now) where the door slid open to reveal a garage full of br new RSts, Saff Cos's and an owners RS500. I had a MK1 xr2 and it was the best fun car I've ever had and I regret selling it now but in the mid 90s they were 2 a penny and I replaced it with a 205 GTi and it was not a patch on the xr2 for fun .
I'm shocked that it has a boot floor as they are usually shot and the rest of the little bits it needs are standard issue with all of the MK2s but that one has survived really well you don't find many as good as that, what a result 👍
Went with my best mate back in 92 ish to check and collect one of these in diamond white, took it for a test drive with the older lady owner, two roundabouts later she was hanging on for dear life with diamond white knuckles 😂. Loved it, better to drive than my s1 rs, much more fun. Please do a full resto on it Grant, I feel like I’ve a huge void in my life since the rs turbo fiesta series finished. 🙏

It's an XR2 so it's probably had a punch on the nose at some time, but not a big one as it looks like it's still got its' original front wings so it looks like it's just had what would be the bonnet landing panel on a car with a conventional bonnet. That's all very common on a mk2 Fiesta. The roof and pillars all being solid is extremely good news on one of those with a factory sunroof...
My first car I owned in 1994, absolute gem of a car and I still find myself looking on Ebay at them with temptation to get one again. Midlife crisis possibly but it was the best car I ever had. 2nd car was a mint 1990 G reg Orion 1.6i ghia. Didn't like that as much.
They have that effect! I sold my one a few years back as my parents wanted their garage back so I had nowhere to store it over the salty road winters! I still google the reg (E96sec) to see if the cars still alive! I’m like a crazed car stalker!

I’m also from Glasgow and I’m honestly shocked that there was any XR2’s left here never mind one that’s so original and in fairly good health, nearly every 80’s & 90’s hot hatch’s are extinct now due to the poor weather and salt on the roads, but they were all killed off by joyriders who then dumped and torched them when the fuel ran out and the polis were coming.

It's mental isn't it. Prices now. I sold a mk1 golf gti LHD 1.6 mechanicly amazing. Bbs body kit coil overs pas fitted. Looking a bit rusty for £300 15 years ago and even in the state it was in it'd be worth 6k easy.

Hiya Grant, I'm so sorry for you that you're having to sell the 3dr Rep cos n the Festa van, I rather like the look of the van, the seats from the RS1800/XR3i 130 certainly a change from your Recaro preference, and I bet theyre rare things these days. I've seen those led lights on a couple of motors round here, it was a shock to see them as these look particularly BMW esque with their rings. There's a running, blue Triumph Herald round Leeds with them on and a most distinctive green Hillman Humber near the White Rose Centre with black vinyl roof in an unrestored state with them fitted and it looks fabulous!! Like I said mate,, I'm so very sorry, keep ur chin up and I hope you're fortunes get better soon. Maybe u could do a Festa RS1800 as they themselves must be rare but obvs pales into insignificance to the "proper" RS1800 with BDA!!!
Again on the timeline of the van and the RS1800 there paths must have crossed with a certain French car that would be bigger, faster, more economical, comfier and now rarer, a certain Citroën ZX Volcane!!! (I wish you could find one!) Soz Ford fans but barring a cossie at the time the ZX (in my eyes) was top dog(whether id swap my beloved furloughed foci tdci for a mint ZX I dunno that's how good they are! ) . I'm in the same boat money wise but tied up in a ssp fortnights isolation which is err shit.

I had the dubious pleasure of owning both the MKI and the MKII of the XR2's back in the mid to late 80's and they both were bad for rot in the inner wings and sills. I see yours has the K&N too which my MKII had done before I got mine, which was a popular mod for the amateur tinkerer.
All in all you've got yourself a decent little runner mate.
I hope it gives you a lot of smiles coz they are great wee drivers when pressed a bit.

I had a red one.......loved it. Mind you I called it 'Red 1' cos it smoked like a Red Arrows hawk. Once the bonnet and wings started to rot I sorted it up to a fashion and primed it in yellow.....then it looked like a Messerchmitt 109!!!!

love it :) so many memories came flooding back, i had a white F reg with black and chrome RS 4 spokes from a mk2 RS 2000 and a chrome K&N filter, i had no licence at the time and was well known by the local police officer who drove a mk3 astra van and he seen me driving it early hours in the morning and because i was young and stupid i decided not to stop and he chased me all around my estate but i managed to lose him and just as i got the car back on my drive and was closing my front door a couple of police cars pulled up outside so i ran upstairs and jumped in bed, they started banging on my door so i went to the window and told them i had been in bed all night , they didnt have cameras back then so couldnt prove it was my car they were chasing even though they knew it was haha, i would love to get another but they are way too expensive , i only paid £500 for the one i had

It is in great condition for a 32 year old car and fantastic tp have all that paperwork with 8 owners. No holes for aftermarket speakers in the parcel shelf, what is all thar about. Overall a great buy Grant and please do your bodywork magic and make it look fantastic again. Engine sounds so sweet 👌👌

It was great on see the XR2 once again with minimal damage after all those years I also had one from new on D plate when seeing yours it brought back many happier days of driving around pounding the tarmac ahaha was a thrilling car to drive due to it twin choke system 👍

I had the use of a nearly new Mk 1 XR2 at work many many years ago. Great fun to drive.
Nice motor, less rust then the mk3 xr2 and the sun roof area is in better state. Look forward to the tidy up.👍💯

I had one in diamond white back in the early 90's, a no side repeater model, 1985, C34SRF, lived in Cardiff at the time, came out one morning, gone. Not the quickest car ever, but then only 96 bhp from the cvh engine.

XR2 looks very nice, I like the pepper pots, you never see those examples with wheel trims that look like alloys at all ever do you?
You've bought a nice car there, and no you shouldn't sell it unless the new keeper promises to keep it original.
The trim reminds me of a similar one in (as ever) one of my dad's motors. He had a black D reg XR3i as I'd begged and begged for 2 years for him to try anutha (more reliable hopefully) 3i rather than the hopeless mk3 a reg one. It was a nice car and dad kept it 2 years, had a recall and full replacement of clutch I recall, but no dramas. The scort was swapped for a Sapphire 2.0 GLS with RS boot spoiler, v nice, both of which had the red pin stripe just like the Festa has.
I'm impressed, for your next mission should you choose to accept, would be (apart from the Zx!!!!) to find a XR4i and or a XR4x4 next please. Black 4i and a white 4x4 please!!

@@grantssmartrepairs I remember the performance ford mag highlighting the system 2 litre for xr2 and 3 not to mention a turbo technics version, wasn't there a very rare cabriolet version too? , made by a Suvvern coachbuilder who did capri cabs too, cant rem name. Incidentally the halifax garage that was much better than dewsbury one also memorably had some customer care issues mind, dad recalled to me as he was waiting for the scort in reception listening to a poor woman with a 2 mth old mk 2 Festa pop plus (1.1) in tears as it was using a litre of oil a day and they couldn't care less!!
They were a bit like that when we returned there(only local RS, dealer other than Polar at Bradford) (&:again in 95 for the rare RS2000 4x4 which I test drove too {aged 22})for the vroom vroom Rst. Simpler times eh?
Also recall test drive in Rst up to 95, mph easy on hfx by pass under m62 (50 limit now!!), we had to go to garages warehouse at Salter Hebble Hill(a bloody mcds now) where the door slid open to reveal a garage full of br new RSts, Saff Cos's and an owners RS500. Happy days.

I had a MK1 xr2 and it was the best fun car I've ever had and I regret selling it now but in the mid 90s they were 2 a penny and I replaced it with a 205 GTi and it was not a patch on the xr2 for fun .

I'm shocked that it has a boot floor as they are usually shot and the rest of the little bits it needs are standard issue with all of the MK2s but that one has survived really well you don't find many as good as that, what a result 👍

Went with my best mate back in 92 ish to check and collect one of these in diamond white, took it for a test drive with the older lady owner, two roundabouts later she was hanging on for dear life with diamond white knuckles 😂. Loved it, better to drive than my s1 rs, much more fun. Please do a full resto on it Grant, I feel like I’ve a huge void in my life since the rs turbo fiesta series finished. 🙏

It's an XR2 so it's probably had a punch on the nose at some time, but not a big one as it looks like it's still got its' original front wings so it looks like it's just had what would be the bonnet landing panel on a car with a conventional bonnet. That's all very common on a mk2 Fiesta. The roof and pillars all being solid is extremely good news on one of those with a factory sunroof...

My first car I owned in 1994, absolute gem of a car and I still find myself looking on Ebay at them with temptation to get one again. Midlife crisis possibly but it was the best car I ever had. 2nd car was a mint 1990 G reg Orion 1.6i ghia. Didn't like that as much.
