This video made me sad, because the White Palace (and Path of Pain) is my favorite area in the game and I don't have any save files that I haven't done it on :')) A few extra tips: - For the platforms around 13:40, I always go under them, avoiding the retracting spears entirely up until the one that allows you to skip. - Deep Focus is a great charm, especially combined with Grubsong. - If you run out of Soul and a Wingmould is nearby, you can hit it over and over to get the Soul you need. You can also kill Royal Retainers for it, but it's much better to Dream Nail them instead. - With the spears at 14:10, you don't have to get on the wall. You can just double jump from the ground and pogo on them that way. - At 14:50, it's tight, but you can jump between two of the buzzsaws to get on one of the smaller platforms. - You can also pogo off of the spikes at 15:30 to skip a small portion of that part. - There's a breakable wall right below you at 15:50 that allows you to skip that part. - At 17:40, you can jump up and pogo through a narrow gap between the saws and the wall. - At 21:00 there's a breakable wall off to the right. It's just a bit of lore, but interesting to see. EDIT: And if anyone asks, no, I had not played Super Meat Boy when I did the White Palace for the first time. I have played it now, but I still like the platforming in Hollow Knight more :)

Lol same I didn't even know I could down pogo on the blades and spears. But I don't think it's a gigachad move. A chad move would be to complete the section without dying and resting. A Gigachad move would be to complete it without taking a single damage
Me too. I hate the down pogo. I can only consistently do it using an anolog stick and I prefer using a dpad for everything else. Luckily the level is designed so you really don't need it.

19:50 For those wondering why it's believed to be Hornet's room, the reason why it's speculated to be Hornet's room is because that's a cradle not a chair and the light hanging over is a akin to the toys/lights that hang above a cradle in certain settings. As for the song, doesn't it sound like a soft lullaby played on a triangle for a baby? ;)
I always thought the hollow knight was raised there, but you do have a point. Unless the hollow knight slept in such a small cradle (which he shouldn't because he is the same age as our little playable knight at the time it left the abyss, and both of them can walk and understand well enough, so a cradle would be unnecessary) it really makes me wonder if hornet WAS actually raised in the white palace, and not in Deepnest like everyone else seems to think. However, I find it confusing that a music box version of the shade theme plays, as if implying a child of void was raised there, but maybe it was just a red hearing or composition choice. But also, Hornet didn't get to see her mom a lot as a kid, even though she doesn't regret Hera being her mother. Just food for thought.
I’m more inclined to think that the room was never used. Hornet was raised in Deepnest, it’s not specified how long but it was long enough that Midwife would comment on her not coming back to Deepnest as a current situation and wishing she would visit, so she’s probably raised in Deepnest past her infancy. The room as a reflection of grief and longing seems more fitting with the overall theme of the area and of the story
I agree with Iz, Hornet was not the White Lady daughter, she was raised in Deepnest (there's an npc at the bottom of the huge room in that place who states that).
I personally didn't find it difficult the 2nd time through. So my thought is you might find it easier if you take a step back, breath, drink some water, stretch, etc and then come back to it.
If you’re really struggling I recommend the hive blood charm as it allows you to heal your masks after you take damage. You can only heal the mask you just lost so wait if you take damage before moving on.
You my friend are a savior. My savior and the savior of many other people and controllers. You just prevented a mass-extinction of controllers and keyboards. Thank you.
I don't like this place. I spent a whole day going through this madness. If I wanted to play a crazy platform, I would've just played Super Meat Boy. My goodness, I didn't have fun in this area and was so relieved when it was over. Quite useful guide btw. A bit too late for me btw... I already suffered this hell. But I might keep this in mind when I decide to replay the game.
@@orbitkos4548 Good for you. It's almost like people have different experiences and skills in game, no? I did have trouble. I haven't played platforms with precision jumps in a long while and sudden shift from the game to that caught me by surprise.
@@RelyeaGaming I thought about doing it, but I think I need to be mentally prepared because there will be a lot of swearing when I decide to this lol. Right now I'm just trying to go through the Pantheons in godhome.

Hiveblood saved my ass.
I believe the room was a nursery room that was never used. THK was never considered a child and Hornet stayed a good amount of time in Deepnest, most likely only raised in White Palace during her childhood, since the Midwife commented on her not coming back to Deepnest as a current situation implying she was raised there. The room has a sense of loneliness and sorrow to it, which makes me think Pale King remembers the room as the where White Lady sat alone without the child she wished to have
At 18:18 where you do the Crystal Heart Super Dash, I myself actually went up through that first visible upward gap. If I knew I was suppose to Crystal Heart Super Dash at that spot, I totally would've. The positioning of making that jump through that first visible upward gap was very tight. So much so, that it made me question whether the game developers actually intended the player to traverse through that first visible upward gap. That's what brought me to watch someone's walkthrough to see whether I had done a minor sequence break.
You missed a secret path. For the spikes at 15:56, there's a breakable wall underneath that is just a short cut. (You can see that the curve is cracked right under the spikes. All other corners in the palace are pristine. I found this shortcut myself a few days ago. It's just a hall)
I’m currently doing the white palace, (anything for that second half-) and lemme tell you: Hiveblood absolutely saves your life, and pairs extremely well with Deep focus and Grubsong. Be patient, and let at least one heart heal before continuing, then only heal when *two* are gone. Saves soul, and multiple restarts!
@@georgerice6488 cool story bro. Don't use what's been made available to you by the game's creators to aid you in your attempts to complete it then. 🤷♂️

whoo i was doing the white palace while watching this so everytime i got into a tricky part i will just minimize the window and watch the tutorial and thank u for doing tutorials like this :D
I know this is an old vid but I wanted to leave some small tips for people like me who can't down pogo to save their lives. - Platforms around 13:40 with the spears, you can jump slightly to the side, dash through when the spears are down and stick on to the other side. - Around 18:07, you can do a double jump towards the wall as the buzzsaw starts its descent to the bottom. As soon as you hit the wall, you can then do a double jump and dash to the other wall before continuing as shown Thanks for the guide. Helped me maintain my sanity through the white palace.
Thanks, I can't down pogo to save my life either. I think the part in Ancient Basin where you have to pogo off Garpedes to reach a vessel fragment took me well over 30 tries.
At 18:10 I saw a video on Gamer Walkthroughs where he basically waits till the saw goes down, wall jumps above it, and mothwings to the far wall. Found this WAY easier than nail pogo. Also as someone below mentions, Grubsong and Deep focus are lifesavers, because you have infinite heals with those.
I finally completed the white palace. Here are a few places you can cheese that were not mentioned in the video that I think would be helpful: At 12:51 you can down pogo of the lamp post and then double jump and dash. That way you’ll skip the whole spike path on the right At 14:09 instead of using mantis claw there’s a platform to the right. Double jump and dash that way you’ll end up above the spikes and you won’t get hit by them that way you can down pogo off them easily If you’re having a hard time hitting the spikes at 14:28 there’s a wall to the right. Jump there and Mantis claw to the top then double jump and dash you’ll end up above the spikes which makes it easier to down pogo off them At 17:23 hug the wall below you and go all the way down and Crystal dash. Stop right before the platform and then double jump
If you’re stuck around 18:20, there’s a very precise skip you can do. Instead of using Crystal heart on the wall, double jump up and dash left and, if timed right, you can get through the gap and skip all of the spikes. Make sure to do the first jump as close to the spikes above you as possible, and then quickly jump again. Don’t leave the second half of the double jump too late or you’ll go too low and not reach the height needed. Then it’s just a dash left, straight after the double jump, and you’re there.
Honestly I'm terrible at platforming, and this guide saved me from spending days on this area. It still took me about 4 hours, but that's better than the alternative, so thanks so much for this.
Your calm explanations and reassurances helped in a way I can’t quite express. White Palace always really stresses me out, but I want to be good at it because it’s the only part of this wonderful game that I can’t do well. Your calm and soothing voice really helps me relax (and that helps me get it right!) so thank you for this.
Literally just finished white palace. I tried to do each section blind but this was immensely useful for those sections where I was unsure how to progress. Thanks!
Five years later, I’m going to add to the list of thank you messages, your pleasant demeanor and well timed jumps saved the rest of my hair. I was just going to skip it all, but I wanted the full set of endings. Thank you.
This is horrific! I got so intimidated that I backed out quickly! I’m trying to finish getting my last mask and soul fragments so I can go in more prepared. Again, you made this look SOO easy! “Just like that!” 😅❤️
14:25 alternative method. Crystal heart to the right, when you stop on the wall, wing jump and mantis claw your way up. 17:35 That wingmould is useful for replenishing soul and focusing.
After tens of hours running around doing nothing in Hollow Knight, I finally gained the courage to finish the second half of White Palace and got through thanks to your help! I watched this video so many times to analyze the moves and the timing. Thank you for the guide!🙏 Can’t wait for Silksong to come out!
This is an amazing video, incredibly helpful! My only pet peeve is all the pogoing - I just finished this, took 2 hours (thanks hiveblood), but pogoed maybe twice (one of them on the flies close to the end). A lot of the places where you pogoed double jump or dash would do just as well and are much easier to do without pogoing. Especially 18:13 - just double jump when the blade starts going up, dash at it (it'll go down just before you hit it), jump right off the wall, double jump, dash - you're on the opposite wall. When I mastered the timing on that one it was just the spears to get through. And after that in the well with the flies you can hang on the left wall forever with hiveblood and have as many attempts as you like to jump over (or pogo on) the flies and land on the tiny platform. Still a wonderful guide, saved me a lot of frustration for sure! 10/10 (would be 11, but pogoing is the worst, LOL, I am not doing the path of pain, no, sir)
@@vvacancy959_ I also died on those spears countless times. You'll get through it, just keep on trying! Definitely one of the more frustrating areas. You have to get a feel for the timing, it will come to you eventually.

Thank you so much for this guide - saved my bacon, and got me through a place I probably would’ve given up on otherwise. Something I noticed on my playthrough - if you Dream Nail the retainers (bowing guys), they fill your Soul. Seems like you can do it endlessly for a refill!
I'm still going through the White Palace but having Hiveblood and Grubsong are really helping me out. Edit: Thanks a ton for the guide. There are many times I thought of quitting and returning later, but this guide made this route bearable.
Thank you Relyea, your guides are very useful, usually when I see one of your guides I say to myself: "ok, I'm glad I watched this video, looks like that area isn't very hard, let's do it". BUT with this one I said: "ok, I'm glad I watched this video, looks like that area is NOT for me, I won't even try it". 😄 Edit: 2 days later, I came back, I followed your guide closely, and I finished the White Palace, thanks man.
11:46 I'm still stuck on this part and it's genuinely making me cry, HOW. HOW DO YOU MAKE IT LOOK SO EASY Edit: I DID IT!!!! IM NEVER GOING BACK TO THE WHITE PALACE
15:43 If you go full right from that spot, you skip two parts. When you enter that part of the White Palace, go towards the spikes at the right of the wall. Go up a little bit when the shape of it starts changing. Hit that, boom you found the skip. Have a good day.
I legit watched this as I played through. I can't tell you how helpful this video was, and I am literally shaking b/c I have finally finished this section! I have the Kingsoul complete now, and idk what to do with myself xD
Thanks man! You're a lifesaver. I don't have particularly good reflexes (it's actually a medical condition of mine), so having someone walk me through these buzzsaws and platforms (with the occasional reassurance that "it's easy, folks!") was a big help. Keep up the good work!
Hiveblood + grubsong is one of the best charm combos for this area because when you inevitably get frustrated or have to time a movement, you can regenerate your health or get soul by getting hit and then waiting for the automatic heal (you can use lifeblood charms for extra health too)
14:05 you dont need to pogo here you can crystal heart toward right and grab on a platform with spikes coming through it ,you need to have good timing to make the jump on the platform on top , its much easier if you struggle in poggoing . 15:47 this part is skip able if go all the way to the right and up of place where there buzzsaws (in this room right below the ledge his standing on) lower section is breakable and you can skip the part of moving between the spikes.
A small shortcut but at 12:55 you can pogo on the breakable street light behind you to double jump on the ledge above. Idk if it’s only viable if you have long nail equipped but I know I did when I used this shortcut
Thank you so much for this. Some parts I tried to weasel through my own way, but i'd have been so lost without this video. Great content as always, very helpful and easy to follow.
In the room at 15:30 after the long Chrystal heart dash there is a short cut through all of the blades and spike tunnel. It brings you to the area you need to drop through the spikes where you desolate dived at the end.
This video made me sad, because the White Palace (and Path of Pain) is my favorite area in the game and I don't have any save files that I haven't done it on :'))
A few extra tips:
- For the platforms around 13:40, I always go under them, avoiding the retracting spears entirely up until the one that allows you to skip.

How do you get the map

@@cherrybear3596 i think i’ve been here for about 4 and i just gave up for the knight. idk if i even want to continue

I personally didn't find it difficult the 2nd time through. So my thought is you might find it easier if you take a step back, breath, drink some water, stretch, etc and then come back to it.
I am crying
If you’re really struggling I recommend the hive blood charm as it allows you to heal your masks after you take damage. You can only heal the mask you just lost so wait if you take damage before moving on.

thanks for the guide.

18:28 these last spears right here... *THESE DAMMED SPEARS*

You missed a secret path. For the spikes at 15:56, there's a breakable wall underneath that is just a short cut. (You can see that the curve is cracked right under the spikes. All other corners in the palace are pristine. I found this shortcut myself a few days ago. It's just a hall)

I did not even know people did hollow knight white palace walk throughs until after completing it
I know this is an old vid but I wanted to leave some small tips for people like me who can't down pogo to save their lives.
- Platforms around 13:40 with the spears, you can jump slightly to the side, dash through when the spears are down and stick on to the other side.
- Around 18:07, you can do a double jump towards the wall as the buzzsaw starts its descent to the bottom. As soon as you hit the wall, you can then do a double jump and dash to the other wall before continuing as shown
Thanks for the guide. Helped me maintain my sanity through the white palace.
Appreciate the tips
Thanks, I can't down pogo to save my life either. I think the part in Ancient Basin where you have to pogo off Garpedes to reach a vessel fragment took me well over 30 tries.
Basically the path of pain in four words
"I was so close!"
I think *I* is a letter so it will be 3 words? or *I*= i am?
I spent 4 hours in the white palace last night, I almost cried when I got through and sat in the chair 😭 thanks a lot, this video helped so much!

I know this is a year after you posted, but I sincerely thank you for this tip
I can't pogo on an upward moving sawblade to save my life! It just doesn't seem to throw me upward, ever.
Thank you so much
I finally completed the white palace. Here are a few places you can cheese that were not mentioned in the video that I think would be helpful:
At 12:51 you can down pogo of the lamp post and then double jump and dash. That way you’ll skip the whole spike path on the right
At 14:09 instead of using mantis claw there’s a platform to the right. Double jump and dash that way you’ll end up above the spikes and you won’t get hit by them that way you can down pogo off them easily
If you’re having a hard time hitting the spikes at 14:28 there’s a wall to the right. Jump there and Mantis claw to the top then double jump and dash you’ll end up above the spikes which makes it easier to down pogo off them
At 17:23 hug the wall below you and go all the way down and Crystal dash. Stop right before the platform and then double jump
I love you so much thank you for saving my thumbs
Amazing tips thank you!
Then it’s just a dash left, straight after the double jump, and you’re there.
did this work for you? I dont think its possible
NEVER MIND I DID IT

white palace was driving me nuts, i couldn't have finished it if it weren't for this. thank you so much man
This is an amazing video, incredibly helpful!
