Life requires layers of “friends” and so long as you know who gets access to what in your life you can be surrounded by many. But if you think everyone in your life that shows up for your wins will also show up for your losses…. You are going to be sadly mistaken. Do you agree?
Nope had a bunch of people around me when I was in high school stayed at their houses would do anything for them but I started noticing I was always reaching out and non of them would reach out to me after we all had jobs I always indicated hanging out but my plans would always have to change to be with them because they already had plans. One day I quit calling and and I had no friends any more. All I have is a very close family unit and acquaintances. My family are so close that with in 3 years of one family member moving out of state we all now live in the same state within 5 minutes of each other.mom and dad my 3 sisters and our family’s. Still friendly with most of the old friends talk every so often to are now brother in laws to me and one is getting married in October but haven’t talked to any of the others in years.

Learned this lesson when I stopped drinking and partying 17 years ago the majority of the people I considered my friends stopped calling me. I can count on 1 hand the people that are really my friends the ones who have been there thru my best times and my worst times
A very critical point in creating these circles is you have to actively search for these real and ambitious people. If you are not able to build a team like this, you may need to re examine yourself. That is what I needed to do.

I appreciate this comment. It sounds like it's a bad thing, but in reality, that is a very very high compliment to give someone, or to describe their traits. Some people come into your life when you NEED them. And they are not there for everyday outings or hanging out being friends. They are angels in human form, and are around to keep you sane during your down times. And they are out there treating others w the same generosity when it is needed. Those people are the best. Iv has a few in my life. Very small gestures but they are in the location where they are needed at the time they are needed.

A friend battling depression may not be able to show up because they are dealing with their mental health. A 8.5 months pregnant friend may not show up for obvious reasons. A friend that has court, a dying relative, or a myriad of other reasons may not show up. That is not a test of true friendship IMO. Also, how would the dad know his son would be in trouble in exactly 90 days? Without substance, I would be skeptical of that phone call. I would hang up the phone and reach out directly to my friend for clarification, assess the situation and help out the best way I can.

I never had more "friends" than the years 2003-2007. Those are the years I got away with cocaine dealing and would often give it away at parties. When I got caught, I was sent to prison. From 2007-2011, one real friend wrote me in prison and he was my friend before the cocaine hookup.

Those "friends" are always there when things are going great but once you hit a ruff patch in life, expect nothing but your own Courage and Christ to see you through it.
