  • Ali Miraj is joined by former UK ambassador to Ukraine Leigh Turner after Nigel Farage said that Zelenskyy should seek a peace deal with Russia.
Mr Farage said that "of course" Vladimir Putin is at fault for his country's war with Kyiv.
But he maintained that the "ever-eastward expansion" of Nato and the European Union had given the Kremlin "an excuse" to move troops across the border.
The Reform UK leader said he was not an "apologist" for the Russian president but "what I have been saying for the past 10 years is that the West has played into Putin's hands, giving him the excuse to do what he wanted to do anyway".
Mr Farage has faced criticism from former PM Boris Johnson, who accused him of spreading 'Kremlin Propaganda'.

NATO is losing the war. And the war is going to be lost. And that's what he's talking about: A white flag. That's not appeasement. Appeasement implies you could have resisted but chose to give into demands. This is about surrender, which is what happens when you lose a war. Don't like it? That's not Farages fault, that's NATO's fault for picking a losing fight

I'm very very lucky because I sit here comfortably in a peaceful country, I won't have to do any of the killing or the fighting or the dying, I won't have to wave goodbye to my sons as they're taken to the front lines to become a feast for crows, but I firmly believe that democracy and human dignity, things that are almost completely gone in Russia, are ideals worth suffering for.

Nigel Farage is absolutely wrong about this issue. Before the Russian invasion, on numerous occasions, he said that he was huge admirer of Putin. He was actually a guest on RT /Russian Times TV for several years. Not to mention, his party UKIP prior to Brexit, was funded with Russian money.
    Couple of things:
    1. Ukraine is a sovereign and independent country since 1991 recognised in full borders by Russia (with Crimea).
    2. There was no talk about NATO expansion eastwards (verbal or written promises). This was confirmed by Mikhail Gorbachev in a video interview from 2014. It"s a myth created by Russian propaganda in the time of annexation of Crime to justify these actions ....
    3. if Ukraine joined EU/NATO earlier, in the period of 20o4-2006. No one would even mention this as factor in anything. It wouldn"t be an issue at all. Instead, it was weaponised by the Russian propaganda to justify the invasion.
4.. Putin shares the same opinion about Poland. I quote: "It was a gift from Stalin" ( in his mind it "never existed)

Like most things Farage says it's devoid of any actual detail or long term view. Unless there's no end to this conflict and it becmes the never ending war of 1984, then any cessation allows him to say "I Told You So" . The LBC host has basically ignored the far more detailed & informative view of the former Ambassador with nothing more than the "Oh well, I reckon this, so there" lack of thinking typical in such complex & delicate matters.
