Only lasted about 3 years, but the show lives on forever. This was the epitome of the 1980's: risk it all to win big, and there's a lot of cool colors, flashing lights and a cute yet dastardly character to ruin your day. If only I were alive to witness this, or even be on the show...yeah, right. I have a better chance of being on a jury than I do being on a game show!
My God this version is still awesome im still excited when I watch the new version it still has the 80s on it but all shined up and improved. We all miss you Peter Tomarken miss your game voice.
I still enjoy watching past press your luck episodes. When it ran, in 1983-1986 I was only 20-23 years old. If it were still on today, I wonder how much the prizes would be. How much money prizes would be. I was a great game show. Thank you so much.
I was in high school when it was airing and I became an instant junkie from the first episode I watched. I remember being pissed 😤 when the show ended.
One of the Things I Like to Draw, is the Big PRESS YOUR LUCK Board When I Draw the Big Board, I Make Sure to Include My Favorite Square, $5,000 and a Spin
I remember waking up on the first days of summer(naturally with no alarm clock or yelling mom!) & watching this while I ate my cereal & planned my day, definitely going somewhere on my bike, that's a given. The days seemed packed with endless possibilities, I might end up at the BMX track or the wave pool or the mall & those are the best memories I have, that's why I like stuff like this, it reminds me of my favorite days, carefree kid who didn't know or care about anything but being a kid
Menard’s reaction at 18:35 was one of the all time iconic game show moments... and he hadn’t even won yet. “Big bucks, Peter! Big bucks!!! Big bucks, Peter!! Yes!! Yes!!! Yes!!! I’m a fighter!”
I love how ALL the lights lit up on the board at first, as if he had won, but he still had a spin to play or pass. Even the people running the board got caught up in the excitement!!
Guess what - they just announced recently that Press Your Luck is coming back on ABC - and so far, they've done a damn good job of reviving old game shows without changing them, so I have high hopes for the revival. That and their upcoming Card Sharks revival :)
@@starskunk There will be a new bonus round on the new Press Your Luck revival where the winner of the game faces the Whammy to win big cash and prizes.
I wish they'd put the Michael Larson light patterns on the new era Press Your Luck. Even if just in the bonus round - reward the superfans that knew what he managed to do!
It’s interesting how many of the best PYL games were when one player was out or effectively out of the game. When things get head to head, anything can happen.
Just like family feud, cool. These contestants are up to a big challenge, I like it. The host that died last year was good at competing with his contestants. Keep it up
I used to watch this in the UK when I was a kid. Forgot which channel it was on. Always watched it before school. Loved it.. whammyyy whammyyy whammyyy... Anyway, watching it now, it's still class. But God some exaggeration American clapping 😂 I know it's entertainment, but it was so rigged for the entertaining purpose haha.
That’s an understatement. He was a private pilot, and was flying for a charity that provided free air travel to needy patients. He and his wife were on their way to a cancer patient in san diego when the plane went down due to faulty repair :-(
I remember Peter Tomarken. He made a surprise appearance on Whammy The All New Press Your Luck to host the question round. He was an amazing game show host. He sure will be missed by people who loved him.
Anyone else notice that the square one over from the top right has one slide missing and intermittently displays a blank screen while Rod Roddy introduces Peter Tomarken?
Yep & there is a Math Equation but only for when a Lady like Annemarie Buchta wins big on this Show & the Math Equation is this. Lady + Lots Of Cash + Prizes + Win = Her Clapping Hands Win Her Cash & Prizes Together
12:11 Peter was right, the total was wrong. He landed on $500, plus $3,400 he already has, it should've been $3,900. Dunno why they gave him an extra $100 but oh well.
+Beta Shadow The total is correct. The previous spin he hit $2000, but the scoreboard added only $1900. The producers corrected the error on the next spin.
I'm glad I decided to watch stuff like this as a kid instead of youtube and everything I always love old game shows and always will
this truly was one of the best game shows. entertaining 'board'/graphics/visuals, a charismatic host, and real strategy in the gameplay
And now its back on ABC
@@JalaalElasmari grew up watching this
This was the best show im watching old episodes NOW
yeah there's a lot of strategy when you're passed a shit ton of spins and have no choice but to get a whammy due to the laws of probability
@@andyraphael I'm sure everyone who sees this video is watching old episode now....

The ending was like a overtime college football game. I love Press Your Luck.
That was classic Press Your Luck right there. Thanks for posting!
probably the Best Episode so far!
Minard earned that championship.
What a great competitive ending to a classic episode.
This game show was way ahead of its time.👍
This show takes me back to my childhood i was like 10 in elementary school granny watched this

Much better than most games show
I'm so happy Menard won. I was cheering for him during most of the show.
I love it when Menard wins! So happy for him
Dude.. “big bucks, big bucks, NO WHAMMIES, STOP!” Will forever be my favorite thing!
THANK YOU ABC FOR BRINGING IT BACK I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH 2ND REBOOT BABY
Indeed. I looked this up to see the difference.... I thought they did a great job on the remake of the set. Looks quite similar.
One of the most exciting final rounds, I've ever seen. That game just wouldn't end between those 2. Kind of makes me forget about Michael Larson.
I just yelled "yeah Menard!" at 1:20AM.
And also, congratulations to John Bowden.
Save big money at Menards

This was my favorite show to watch as a child when I didn't want to go to school, so mostly on Mondays. I love this game show
omg i'm so happy for him because he was so nice the whole game!! he deserved it!!
"Press Your Luck" usually got exciting at the end. I used to love watching for the Whammys as a kid. Now I love watching for the exciting finishes.

That was such a fun episode! Classic!

3 days left!!! I'm so excited!!! Funny how this is the 2nd reboot, and 3rd time total being on the air, hopefully it stays for good now!
the banks version (this reboot) is on its second season
I hope Menard is doing well. He's great!
menard is the most energetic contestant on press your luck. i like that.
now that's a great way to get a game winning spin on press your luck
When the dude got 18 grand at the end, i did say " Boy, you better pass it" Good Job man
Incredible these men played excellent down the wire
That’s an awesome dual. 😆🤩
I wish they'd put the Michael Larson light patterns on the new era Press Your Luck. Even if just in the bonus round - reward the superfans that knew what he managed to do!
Think of all the knives Menard bought with those winnings. 🔪🔪😄
Lady Luck is with you My brother!
I remember before there were talk shows, game shows and soap operas were a big thing for daytime television
It’s interesting how many of the best PYL games were when one player was out or effectively out of the game. When things get head to head, anything can happen.
Karen from the intro was the original Karen before Karen was a meme.
Thanks for posting.
Oh my God, when Bernard hit Big Bucks at 18:25 it was the greatest celebration ever
krazyeman4 I think they even fooled the Big Board operator into flashing the lights on all of the boxes as if the game was over.
His name is Menard, not Bernard
WHAT A COMEBACK!!!
"I'M A FIGHTER, PETER, AND I'M GOING DOWN FIGHTING!"
OMG! The Hype was so real!
Oh my gosh that was intense!
From worst to first! What a finish.
Wow!! Looks like fun👏🏾🙌🏽
Great show.
The chick in the intro reminds me of my friend, Annemarie... LOL
Annemarie Butcha?
Who is ready for Press Your Luck to return tomorrow?
My Cute Ducks I loved it, but damn Peter Tomarken is missed!!! He was the all time best.
That is because he is ded...
But yeh
@@toddvanwinkle7777 Tomarken's reactions were priceless. He was a very reactionary individual.
gokaury Exactly!! He really got into the game with the contestants!
Definitely a lot more energetic and engaging than the original SECOND CHANCE version of this game show. I loved it soooooo much!
Even 80’s game shows were more wholesome than the yuppie 90’s.
This arguably should've gotten two more years. I still say that to this day.
I love how some contestants didn’t even try to look at the board when pressing the button
1:20 and 4 weeks later, that Home Player Game will end with a HUGE bang.
The Karen intro brings me joy.
That was one hell of a game of hot potato.
LOVED this game! This was an awesome episode!
Favourite game show ever
Menard reminds me of George Jefferson from "The Jeffersons." Looks like him and even sounds like him.
R.I.P. Kathleen and Peter Tomarken🙁
Just like family feud, cool. These contestants are up to a big challenge, I like it. The host that died last year was good at competing with his contestants. Keep it up
Even 80's Homie is going to shank some Whammys.
Imagine all that rice-a-roni (the San Francisco treat).
BIG BUCKS at 18:32!!!! WHAT A COMEBACK!!!!
happy 40th anniversary to press your luck big bucks & no whammies
That ending though
The time evening starts depends on when the sunset is and evenly split from noon, same with dusk in the am hours
Great game! And on the captions is match game.
18:25 Mernard celebration ever.
This was amazing
18:32 Menard hit the Big Bucks square $5000 + One Spin. Keith's reaction is too funny
Did anyone notice that they used the whoop whoop sound from The Price is right for the home player spin

May the legend of Michael Larson never die.
he's already dead
Best show ever.
Is anyone else playing along by stopping the video (and board) with the spacebar?
Wow, that screaming woman in the intro sounds like she gargles with Drano.
That is Karen Martin
Nice 1st qustion a whammy question.
Anyone else notice that the square one over from the top right has one slide missing and intermittently displays a blank screen while Rod Roddy introduces Peter Tomarken?
It happened every now and then on PYL when a slide blew out
Aired Monday, May 14, 1984.
My 7th birthday! :)
everyone knows--- if you say no whammy--- you will get one
Clapping is mandatory.

She's going cra crazy at the beginning
Just wanted a peek, ended up watching the whole vid
The way the "TV-G" Rating showed after the intro
Jesus only on American quiz shows will you see such over the top reactions.
Notice: for the HPS they borrowed TPIR's whoop-whoops.
Long live Peter Tomarkin!
I always cheered for the whammy
Did Barbara ever publish her book? I’m so curious!

His total should have been 17950 free 100 dollars show gave him
Michael Larson took this game show in 1984 for 110,000+ dollars and CBS was pissed off and thought he cheated.
