What a nice informed articulate conversation to find on UA-cam of an evening and how needed. I had no idea that Niebuhr was under suspicion as a despicable and dangerous"Commie." 🤔(Green Fire, UK) 🌈🦉
As I did not know the protagonists of this excellent Making of, my first impression was that the film director was the youngest figure and the producer was the oldest. Having seen the documentary, I understand that the cultural affinity between them - and also the interviewer - contributed a lot to highlight the figure of Reinhold Niebuhr as a public theologian. As a European, I understand that he rose above American parochialism and made a universal contribution to understanding the 20th century "great transformation". Perhaps his contribution was possible because he assimilated the Christian creed in a unique and generous way and turned it into a beacon, a criterion for appreciating different theories of justice and different historical events and processes.
