I love this fastback shape! 10y ago hatch most definitely now days I prefer blending into the background Un noticed while the kids sleep in the back lol what's odd is the 35mpg ish, on this kind of journey my 340i will push 40 without trying to be economical
Great video. Good to see a real world test and in different conditions. I must admit it does look and sound good. Great to see Petrol Pouch & Pup and I'm glad Petrol Pup did well in the front seat.
Have you checked the Closed Captions? :D „Welcome to Petra pet...!“ How fitting with the dogs. ;) Keep up the good videos. I like you bringing in some normal life!
Happy belated Birthday Peter. Your mum is so lovely and those pooches are super cute! I’m still undecided on the fastback, I’d have to see it in the metal.
Had mine exactly a week now in the shadow grey colour, and had so many positive comments, not only about how it looks but people impressed with the quality and look of the interior. Had several ‘is that really a Hyundai’ queries 😆 absolutely love it to drive and the exhaust note is epic 👍🏼 great vid btw, keep it up 👌🏼
Happy birthday, hope you’re having/had a good one! Petrol pup has certainly grown a lot since you got her, still cute as anything though. For me I’d still opt for the hatchback over the fastback as I just prefer a hatch. I’m really interested in the i20N that’s supposed to be coming out next year, my budget might stretch to one of those!
Hi Ped Belated birthday greetings, and good to see Mumma Petrol Ped again. Coming back to cars prefer the look of the Fastback, hope there is a de badge option if buying new. Appreciate this was not a car review, just as well as Petrol Pooch & Petrol Pooch stole the show🤗🤗🤗🤗
Hyundai have come a long way since the very basic cars of the early 2000's. Looks like a very capable car for everyday use.One thing I've learnt from this vlog, is you can get seat belts for dogs and how well behaved were they. Whenever I've had one in the car they have gone mental and thought it was a good idea to walk backwards and forwards to the front seats !.
Hi Peter, your the double of your mum fella. As for the car well its a great little car I do like the shape its very Mercedes at the rear and Happy Birthday Peter x
Good video mate, like you said younger people will like the hatch more but people over 30s will prob prefer the fastback and that's what I'll be going for when my pcp is up on my kuga because I need a car that's practical but also I need something a bit fun from time to time.
I brought the hatch in May this year. Amazing car. I'd probably have the fastback if I could... but the wife is small and she wanted a small car... im 6"5. So I got the hatch. Yes the motorway drone can be tiresome, but if you're doing a long journey like that (i drove London to Nottingham last weekend. Stick it in eco and the drone goes away. Being in eco you can get 40-45. But as you say, that's not why you buy a hot hatch. Best I got was 41mpg (because I had my dad in the car). In the Hatch i can get 45 liters in and a range of 330. I've also let it go below ZERO (not recommended, the suspense was killing me) I was a couple of miles from my local Tesco where the fuel is 3p cheaper, since this car is meant to be driven for fun, every penny counts because you will be filling up a lot 🤣. The axle tramping in the hatch is really bad. I might have to do something to fix that.... People say that putting the Michelin PS 4 tyres on make quite a bit of difference to axle tramp in the hatch. Worth investigating do you think? Great road trip, thoroughly enjoy your content as always. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Great vid again,I lean to the affordable car reviews tho,the dogs were a great addition, normal driving conditions, real world stats, cracking 👍 Prefer this to the hatchback

I own one and went to Scottish performance car show a week ago and I got 45.1mpg over 60 miles and it was going up to be fair I was just cruise in. But what a car a proper jekyll and Hyde hatchback
I found my old 16 plate leon cupra 290 could be liable to tramp when wet. I just put it down to the diff and so much power been thrown at the front wheels
Its a 50ltr tank btw, and if you run the fuel gauge dead on the empty line your still have 7ltrs in reserves and about 40 more miles, essentially when the car tells you at 20miles to fill up you really have 60 miles ish. So not that dire really. Im in N mode all the time.... rarely do i see 30mpg unless on motorways and in eco. 24mpg is my average, and im a confident pacy driver that enjoys a quick car that i use when its appropriate. Im a 34 yr old man with a Mrs and 3 kids.
Happy Birthday Peter!! That Hyundai sounds like a real world nice car...not too much image but a car that rewards by being good at what matters. I agree that it looks more upmarket than the hatchback but both are good...a car to add to the possibilities list when friends ask advice! P.S. guess how much Shell V Power is on the M20 leaving Dover..168.9pl..😱😱😱😱😨😨😀😀😀
Great review. Prefer the fast back style but did have a VW CC and considering an Arteon to pair with my Tiguan. Fuel consumption seems on par with Leon Cupra (67 plate) I ran for 6 months , though i30 interior looks better materials if a little down on Leon usability , which to be fair is usual VAG ,style. Nice car. For our to retrievers and two terriers a 2013 Mondeo Titanium X sport estate was ideal .They were more than happy on trips to Cornwall and up to Inverness. Hi Peter for a first attempt at a hot hot hatch Hyundai has almost hit the bullseye, just a few areas to improve on. It's a good looking thing, personally I prefer the hatch and fortunately for you you didn't have drive with the Windows down trying to flush away the dog sick smell. Well done petrol pooch. Regards Simon.
Could easily go for this car, tho I`m A Rwd fanatic really. The Fastback is stylish, but being an (old girl) racer I would still choose the Hatch. As for the tramping, torque steer etc, that can all be eliminated by feeding the power more progressively. As I learnt with my Scooby. Not trying to preach to the converted, as I know you drive the car from a viewer`s perspective, Ped. Love the Petrol pooches... they are so good, hey, and no vomit to clean up, !! Look forward to your review of this car soon...
Michelin PS4’s tyres pretty much solved the axle tramp issue, other have also done torque mount bush and said it’s completely gone, also happy birthday and I drove to Cornwall in eco mode and got 42mpg
Petrol Ped yeah I see that, it does seem a lot better, I enjoy the content you put out on the i30N, I watched you’re previous one just before buying my hatch and it definitely helped my decision 👍🏼 keep up the good content
How do you distinguish between something being "easy" versus "super easy"????. The suspension on these cars is the weak part...if Comfort Mode did actually go somewhere towards comfort the car would be a winner...I'm guessing they will tame that on future models.
Great review mate , thanks for that .and I think k I will get it .I am in two minds ,or the Seat Leon Fr or the 30min Fastback .what would you recommend and why ?thanks from Tenerife ....
I know you're not in Aussie but any aerodynamic benefit is largely offset by the hot climate. However, all edification of i30's are sold alongside & include the Hyundai Elantra (from 2020 sols as the i30 sedan, which is largely the i30 sold as a sedan (saloon) & suits people who like 'American vibe', as well as the i30Fastback which maybe suits people who imagine themselves as a 'more upmarket crowd'. And re the rear badging, it varies on different markets, but on your car, the rear is a case of 'less is more'.
Love the car and agree it’s better looking than the hatch. Following a motorcycle accident I’m restricted to the higher SUV style car and I can now only drive automatics so I’m very envious. And don’t get me going about lorries at 56mph being overtaken by lorries doing 56.01mph. In my opinion it should be banned between the hours of 1am and midnight (cue irate lorry drivers)
Im going for a test drive today in about 4hrs time, ill be trying out the hatchback which is a better car size for me n im sooo excited! If i like it itll be my 1st ever hyundai car
@@PetrolPed talk about timing!! 🤣 I literally just cameback home, i ended up buying the fastback instead, when i saw it i was in love straight away and specially on the shadow grey color. MPG on mine took a noticeable jump once the car went through 7k miles. Couple of trips from South Devon to Biggin Hill area and back averaged a measured 35.7 mpg. N Custom used on the fun bits (and the overtaking opportunities on the A303!), and mostly Normal or the odd stint of Eco on the dull bits (M3, M25, etc). Don't see the point of having a car with such readily switchable personalities, just to leave it in Hoon mode all the time, and then suffer unwanted noise when behaving. It's (relative) Jekyll & Hyde character was what swung it for me in the end. Quite a few owners have reported significant reduction in axle tramp once they ditched the P Zeroes. Doubt I'll replace them like-for-like when the time comes. Lovely pooches - ironically, the mate I stay with when over towards the Big Smoke has the twin of Petrol Pooch!
It does indeed Peter, and I believe that's carrying across to the hatch too. A few owners have uprated engine and/or gearbox mounts (can't remember which off the top of my head), which I gather quells it completely. Likely to be only mod I do, when funds permit!
I currently have the civic sport 1.5, but am considering one of these. Is it really much of an upgrade or should I just stick with what I have and be happy?
Well Pete, been following you for years and didn`t realise you share the same June 18th birthday as me mate 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Gemini birth signs Strengths: Gentle, affectionate, curious, adaptable, ability to learn quickly and exchange ideas Weaknesses: Nervous, inconsistent, indecisive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in response to your who drives in economy mode in that car well apparently a sales rep from crewe Hyundai went in today and they told me about him never turns the exhaust on get's 30 plus mpg wow they told me this car did 8.4 mpg around the nuro race track but great vid
So back end looks like Porsche and the style of the "Hatchback" badge also looks like Porsche. Petrol same here in America on commercial 18wheels no longer have good road etiquette. @ 19:43 Petrol Pup nice pose....
Aww, great to see the pups riding shotgun, fast asleep! But it may be down to the individual cars that Petrol Pup has ridden in. Some animals react badly to an ultrasonically squeaking brake disk that we can't hear.
I already drove 1.y Fastback - classic, 7 DCT ... with complete equipment ... and I can just said it is awesome ! N version is for most normal roads ok...maybe to high, but on other hand too expensive with all the grants to the state ... and we have like others just 5 year guarantees (:
Wanted a Fastback but found the vision out of the back terrible so hatch ordered and found it a better drive. To remove axle tramp just a stiffer dog bone mount bush for £30 solves it
Hi There. That is a really good question and to be honest I'm not sure. Those things didn't exist when I did my test. You can't be looking over you shoulder and using a brake and throttle 😜
Give it an auto box and remove that daft looking ducktail from the rear and put on a "proper" spoiler and it'd be a better car for me. But I do like the fast back style car over the hatch. Still waiting for Mumma PP's war memories video :-))... And a belated Happy B'day old fella :-))...
I know I mentioned this before Pete !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but I still reckon that Mrs Petrol Ped ( wearing a helmet of course in order to hide her anonymity ) could do a nought - 60 quicker than you from a standing start mate 👌👌👌 Take that as a challenge for any future vids mate ( Girl Power Rules ) 💖💖💖💖💖💖
Lovely car, but I get 62mpg average out of my Golf 1.4 TSI on a long run. I’ve never understood the lorry overtaking issue either, they are governed to a specific speed as you said.
Fastback definitely looks better. I've never got more than 33mpg out of mine (measured brim to brim) but considering that I usually drive it like I stole it that's not bad. Mine also doesn't axle tramp unless driven with no mechanical sympathy whatsoever... 😉
What are the differences between the hatch and fastback? Suspension and others. Wheel tramp gone? Figures would be excellent. Prefer the hatch as I own one LOL
Can you do a short video stating suspension differences? Hyundai told me there are differences but won't specify what. Also tyre tread depth and temperature critical according to Hyundai.
For me needs de badged , all trace of N removed where possible perhaps a rear wiper would have to check blind spots rear quarter
Fastback all the way. Have a great birthday Mr Petrol Ped.
Thank you 🙏

I’d always go for hatch as always function over form for a tin top. Have you got any merc content coming yet ?
Very hard to get into Merc at brand level. Believe me I'm trying 😂
Hello fella. Right, I’ll start working my way through my backlog. Colour suits it. All I can think of is what you have now, R8 lol.
Good luck 😂
Petrol Ped 👍👍👍😜😜😜
Well Pete, been following you for years and didn`t realise you share the same June 18th birthday as me mate 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Gemini birth signs Strengths: Gentle, affectionate, curious, adaptable, ability to learn quickly and exchange ideas
Weaknesses: Nervous, inconsistent, indecisive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both Gemini but I filmed this video on June 4th 😜👍👍😂
@@PetrolPed Still both Geminis, that will do for me, Pete. Happy birthday for tomorrow mate👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
@@vxrbandit2527 Today is the 17th, not the 18th, and it's NOT his birthday tomorrow.
in response to your who drives in economy mode in that car well apparently a sales rep from crewe Hyundai went in today and they told me about him never turns the exhaust on get's 30 plus mpg wow they told me this car did 8.4 mpg around the nuro race track but great vid
Can't see the point in doing that 😜😂
So back end looks like Porsche and the style of the "Hatchback" badge also looks like Porsche.
She normally chucks in the S4 😂😂😂
@@PetrolPed Get the brakes serviced? 🤨
I already drove 1.y Fastback - classic, 7 DCT ...
with complete equipment ... and I can just said it is awesome ! N version is for most normal roads ok...maybe to high, but on other hand too expensive with all the grants to the state ... and we have like others just 5 year guarantees (:
was hoping you would roadtrip the fastback n ...:)
I wish I got 35 mpg out of my R53 cooper s, 24 mpg on a good day lol.
LOL 😂
If Mama PP wasn't so far from me, I'd have happily watered her garden for her :) Agreed re the badging at the back.
That is so kind of you 👌
Very nice trip a d i like the Hyundai i30N the Best Hothatch choice for me!! Thanks for the video sir!
My pleasure 👍
Good review man... I'm in the market for the hatch 😍
Cheers 👍
Wanted a Fastback but found the vision out of the back terrible so hatch ordered and found it a better drive. To remove axle tramp just a stiffer dog bone mount bush for £30 solves it
Hello I have seen you advanced driving video and I was wondering what the iam stance is on adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring
Hi There. That is a really good question and to be honest I'm not sure. Those things didn't exist when I did my test. You can't be looking over you shoulder and using a brake and throttle 😜
Definitely the hatchback 🚗 is what fancy me.
Pretty lil pooch’n’pup.
The plan was to do just that but sadly we ran out of time 😥
@@PetrolPed :-(...
Aw happy birthday bud 👍
Thanks Gareth 🙏
Love the fast back shape! Does sound like a lot of tyre noise too. What tyres come stock on them?
They weren't that bad. It had P Zeros on it 👍
That car would look great in black. 🙂
Yep, or a nice gun metal grey 😍
I know I mentioned this before Pete !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but I still reckon that Mrs Petrol Ped ( wearing a helmet of course in order to hide her anonymity ) could do a nought - 60 quicker than you from a standing start mate 👌👌👌 Take that as a challenge for any future vids mate ( Girl Power Rules ) 💖💖💖💖💖💖
I have tried to get her on camera, although she did make an appearance in the recent Project 8 video, but it's never going to happen 😂
Hi mate your not from keyworth Nottingham as that estate looks familiar I'm born and bred in Nottingham
What is your favourite radio station Pete?
I'm old so I listen to Radio 2 👍
Oh dear, I like radio 4. How old does that make me.
Philip Parkes Probably about 50-80!! 😂😂
You got it wrong mate! Still feel like 50 but have to admit to 77😂😂😂
Great looking Car!
More importantly when will MummaPed Merch be available 😂😂😂
LOL...not thought of that 😜
Enjoyed that, great car
Great to hear...thanks 👍
Wish this was coming to the US - the Veloster is just too weird.
I know. I get that a lot 😥
I'm from keyworth too it's a small world 🌎
Lovely car, but I get 62mpg average out of my Golf 1.4 TSI on a long run. I’ve never understood the lorry overtaking issue either, they are governed to a specific speed as you said.
Golf 7.5 here 1.4 yes amazing fuel economy get 990 ks out of a tank on a high way run couldn't handle the 300 miles out of the I30 n.
Yeah but it's still a boring golf.
i'm sure I can beat that time, good old satnav game lol :)
Play it all the time...great fun 😂
Fastback definitely looks better.
I've never got more than 33mpg out of mine (measured brim to brim) but considering that I usually drive it like I stole it that's not bad. Mine also doesn't axle tramp unless driven with no mechanical sympathy whatsoever... 😉
That number to go down rapidly when you 'push on' 😜😂😂
Why quite a few people on the internet are hating Hyundai that badly..?
What are the differences between the hatch and fastback? Suspension and others. Wheel tramp gone? Figures would be excellent. Prefer the hatch as I own one LOL
Wheels tramp much much better on the Fastback 👍
Can you do a short video stating suspension differences? Hyundai told me there are differences but won't specify what. Also tyre tread depth and temperature critical according to Hyundai.
Hyundai 🙆♂️👍🙌
Ah, a fellow left handed Gemini! Congratulations👍
Yep...only the best 😜
Great video
Cheers 👍
We have two black Miniature Schnauzers Eric and Ernie
Great dogs and great names 👍
Evening all! How are you Pete?
Good thanks mate 👍
