The issue is that the current meta of conservatism is more aptly described as neo-conservatism. Trump, for the most part, is not a neo-conservative and more aligns with the original tradition of the Republican party in national populism.
Having worked in state and local government, I can assure you that voting doesnt really matter. 99% of people who work in federal, state, and local government are unelected...yet they have a significant impact on your daily life, whether you realize it or not. In order for things to really change, those millions or government employees would have to be removed from their positions, and we know that will never happen

It’s just how the game is played, it’s not the politicians money spent, the loser of the race isn’t bankrupting themselves. Nobody is suggesting your vote isnt tallied, but they add in votes of their own.
