John Harris is so chill. He deserves more airtime. He’s the Louis Theroux of reporting politics.
No. Press him into wider service and he will end up like the rest. It is time that makes him different. Long form expert.
Louis Theroux lost all credibility after failing to expose Saville in his doc.
I like this journalist, tries to really understand why people vote the way they do and investigate what's driving these feelings. Rare in our modern times
But he works for the Guardian.
john leckie well at least it’s not the daily fail 🤔🤦♂️
But the guardian, aren't they the MSNBC of the UK? Assume I know nothing but am curious now since our great potus opened our eyes.
John Harris is the only Graun reporter worth his salt. You ought to check out his pre-Brexit reporting, He was one of the few reporters who recognised what was happening and where things were going. That's what happens when you venture out from the cubicle.
@@summertime104 The Guardian is undoubtedly left-liberal and always has been. But it carries a reasonably broad spectrum of commentators from the socialist left to the centre-right. It's not a total echo chamber like the right-wing newspapers here in the UK.
The Change meeting was just embarrassing, I was cringing watching that..it is lifeless
Hey bro, they're modern progressives!
The Bilderberg Group met last weekend . I got that only on social media , as it doesn't appear to have been reported on mainstream news . Brexit was one of the topics up for discussion , along with Artificial Intelligence , and China . So I read .,..nothing verified . Vote Brexit Party !
You cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear their message stinks and they had no credibility
That was a bit of a hands over eyes moment
@@theGuardian I feel you brother..
Don't worry about the country, worry about yourself.
Sounds all lovely, positive and simple but it's rooted firmly into a selfish thinking that we have seen through out the 20th and 19th centuries.
Cheers mate, but no way. We can't look after ourselves without ever looking out for eachother.
Sadly people do not read history.
Sounds terrible right from the outset to me
A step further than that, if we look after the country, we also look after ourselves.
In other words this guy with the guitar is a complete tumbleweed with no idea of what’s going on, and this is what the guardian wants us all to be-
Docile and directionless. And this is how you would prefer to live- bury your head in the sand rather than get your hands dirty.
Don't worry about the country. Leave it.
Sorry to see so much tribalism alive and well in the UK!
Us Brits are a primitive lot - you'd probably be more comfortable elsewhere?
I already live “elsewhere” in the great EU, mind you I like going to the UK for holidays to visit family who I’m pleased to inform you are not “primitives”!
......and now chukka and co have left Change UK. Haaaa!!!!!!
They just seem like ordinary people who support the Brexit Party.
Stephen Dyer that’s because they are ordinary people. But the media left are scared witless that the ordinary people might be waking up to whats been going on for years in this country.
@Lolly Logan Who should we vote for, then?
The UK is some shambles
Brexit is an omnishambles.
@@Correctrix you misspelled necessity in your comment.
@@GromDarkwater Wow, a time-traveller from 2016. I have so much bad news for you.

Definitely one of my favourite short form documentary series on UA-cam! Keep it up!
I feel sick...
4 Years Later ... this whole series can be just summed up in a few words with the benefit of hindsight: Yes, things can be worse, no, immigrants were never the problem, and most importantly, I told you so.
It amazes me that some people seem embarrassed for who they voted for
speaks volumes doesn't it
Media shaming people for who they vote for. Says it all.
Thank you!! I've been missing this show since the last installment! If that is the right word. I hope you keep putting these ABW vids. Thank you so much from San Francisco, CA. Part of my being amateur expert on BREXIT is this program.
This was great! Excited for the next one 😊
to look after yourself you have to look out for your surroundings or you will be unable to look after yourself if there is nothing left
Change UK? LOLZ! Where are they now? Anna Soubry sitting at a table for one with a bottle of gin! LOL!
Hahahahahahahahaha.....!!
Their downfall was being Israeli agents.
Nothing here has made me think any better of Brexiters or any worse of Remainers. The divide is solidifying and I don't see how anyone can bridge the gap.
I understand the notion of “Look after yourself, don’t worry about the country” but it really could be argued that those things are one in the same at the end of the day. Concern about the country should be reframed as a concern for you and everybody you care about.

This video summed up 'gotta go...'
Dark clouds on the horizon? No mate! Clear fresh Light Blue skies. Just watch.
robert hollands i think he meant the politicial parties taking on eachother instead of the far future.
That would be the “SmallChange UK” party, who could hold its annual conference in a phone box.......
Nicked that from leave.eu have you now?
Another great video, exploring the heart of people's concerns. I wish you guys could come to my town. I'd have loads to say.
Where's your town?
Has anybody seen Chuka Ummuna anywhere?
Lol the 5 stars movement...an Italian catastrophe we are so happy to export!
Great stuff Vincent, keep the truth coming, we are awakening.
7:00 Chuka ummuna leaves change u.k😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ignorance = bliss...
great respect for the guardian. they actually send people to go about and do some reporting
7.57???????????? Even by the standards of this series today is unbelievable.
2:10 a queue of old zombies. If I was young and British I would be concerned these people decide about your future. Vote or get ignored.
@10:40 “have you been up to Swindon town? it’s like I’ve already gone on holiday!” 🤣 nuff said.....
The musician sounded great, is there any way to find him?
That's why I'm in the comments. Did you have any luck tracking him down?
Bring back personal communication/ talking to each other/ not staring into the plasma.
The issue with that,
Everyone wants to be heard, but not everyone is willing to hear.
unusually fair and impartial reporting from a decent journo for a change,,,, well done mate
@ItzMikeOmg yes I do.
@ItzMikeOmg i mean, that guy did heavily imply he didnt like non-white people and/or immigrants @ 11:11 in that context I don't think the accusation is baseless.
No it's about the political elites behaving like despots.
The cryptic "you can figure it out, work it out from there.. it's been obvious for years. ... " answers to questions are slowly driving me insane.. I wonder if it is something to do with predictive text that many people really can't even finish their own opinion. It's like their thoughts are slowly melting into the pavement outside the newsagents.
Yeah the older gen. did vote for Brexit but... they voted to get into the common market but it CHANGED
"they are sort of out of anybodies control" made me smile.
LOL the guy in the Quattro
I liked the part when the lady said breakfast instead of Brexit
Choice like in theater "I promise all of people democracy and prosperity" I want to ask we have real choice in any country in the entire world?
The last part of this got pretty terrifying
Love your videos John, would have loved to meet you
Not a fan of The Guardian, but am a fan of this.
We'll take that!
The great uneducated !
Love how the British people blame the EU for all of the UK problems. The youth of the UK don’t vote but cry about being taken out of the EU.
15:56 excellent
MIght be the first objective Guardian journalist Ive ever seen. No opinions of his own, just the interviewees. If the Guardian did more of this I may actually read thier stuff.
He is obviously for Remain like any sane person, but he lets the interviewees speak.

Please tell me you’ve changed in a year from Ignorant to not so ignorant.
14:05 priceless reaction.
Though the left-right dichotomy still exists, there are other aspects, other dimensions, that have gained importance. There's been a rise in authoritarianism in an influential subset of the left at the expense of liberal values. I'm not willing to sacrifice my freedoms for other things. That's a cost I won't accept. People are rethinking globalisation. Though a greater variety of consumer goods in ever larger quantities at ever lower prices are available at any time, there is a cost to the local community. The cost of redundancy. The cost of deprivation. The increase of abuse, both of substances and people. The increased cost of policing. These are all part of the price tag, but they are unseen. The professional class, the Westminster class, is isolated from the consequences whilst they maximise their takings.
@@jbagger331 99% of all of our policies are made solely by Westminster, whats stopping us?
If there's an alternative idea, I'm greatly interested to know what it is? Whats your vision for the future of England
J Bagger Brexit party gone green?
@Ken Shabby I said it 3 months ago, I think I've moved on.
This man's sandals at 16:24 portray the current state of the country.
WHO FUNDS CHANGE UK
We all got to stick together be positive to move our country in to a new world not to listen to people that tell you we can't move out of the EU but to be strong as always Great Britain
Sorry can't stick with people who refuse to tackle the real problems at home and vote for British politicians who have no policies and who have voted against the interests of people they now claim to represent, and then in consequence throw people under the bus. It proves that a large amount of people have no fundamental understanding of how their country is run, and why. There the Daenerys people: they think they're "Breaking the Wheel", but are swapping it for a burning tyre instead.
Well, I'm glad it's worked out so well.
A person who wears beige trousers with a dark double breasted jacket like Farage should not be trusted
Response to change UK... laughter, and we all know why. I liked Umana in Labour. He was one of those that kept them unelectable
"What music should we lead in with?" -
"Oh you know- cranked up old Wurlitzer muzak on speed, rendolent of rotting fair-grounds with rusty spokes everywhere as metaphorical man-traps signifying the supporating country post EU. That sort of thing,. The John Harris Guardianistas go a bundle on that."
"'K Cool".
spot on!
The bloke on the bin is completely destroying Angus and Julia Stone if anyone knows him please tell him to stop !
Been waiting for this for weeks
Change - it isn't what is used to be
Neither is the future.
I enjoyed that, not too much of the guardian's usual smugness.
Virtually everybody feels let down, misinformed and lied to. Most feel powerless to effect change in a system they see as corrupt beyond redemption. Why bother ? Because to not bother hands the victory to those with the worst motives before the fight has even began and even if it seems that we are at rock bottom, please believe me, THINGS REALLY CAN STILL GET WORSE ! A LOT WORSE !!!
F.....g depressing , the Brexit party, the five star party!
The rhetoric of revolution by those who are the elite.
thomas sheppard hardly the elite all in govt and were on the remain side
@@alicehammond7438 there has been a tradition with those on the right to use the rhetoric of populism to hide their agenda, ; believe me , Nigel Farage will not give power back to the people, the only political organisations that partially achieved that ,were the Trade Unions ,and the Labour Party. From 1945 to 1951 the Labour party set up the NHS, built council houses, nationalised key industries. Inequality slowly narrowed until 1979, when Margaret Thatcher was elected, since then (generally) inequality has increased ,do you seriously think that Nigel Farage and his wealthy backers have any intention of giving back this countries wealth to the ordinary people ;dream on.
You are so naive you think labour of those days are the labour of today? Most billionaires on remain side. They love the eu it increases their power. If you think labour still speak for the working class you are either dumb or a student. Labour are the party of london, millionaires and mass migration to increase their dwindling vote share.
Nigel Farage , privately educated , a commodities trader.
Really enjoyed that probably the best social brexit relating reporting I've seen.
I seen different reports, but on the Guardian feeling old school and professional reporters.
The riff raff of the UK?
For "Guardian" Report, this was "fairish" I think - Well done lad !
Particularly liked Corbyn's beatboxing.
so called supporter of Bradley Manning apparently doesn't know that her name is Chelsea Manning
Is it just me that noticed but the only UK Election that had Proportional Representation is the EU one, most ironic.
The problem is Jeremy Corbyn SHOULD care how he's portrayed by the media.
The problem is whatever he does the majority of the media spin it into something sinister or a weakness in him. Something as trivial as him owning an allotment has been made into an apparent sign of him being an unworthy leader.
@@Andizzyuk I understand this and I have no idea what can be done about it, especially as even most of the traditionally left wing media are involved. I can only assume he has instructed his cabinet not to make a fuss about the matter, otherwise we would read or hear more complaints about it. He shocked the Tory Party at the last General Election by removing their overall majority and still he is ridiculed.
"Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people." - H. L. Mencken Can I insert "British"?
Good piece. Im watching in US, and this is fascinating.L ike so many, we really dont know what Brexit is. besides very confusing . Sorry about Trump's visit too. Not our best ambassador lol
@@Eamonnpd2 Not at all similar. We have as much say in the creation of new laws as France or Germany, and can veto a lot of things if necessary. You don't know how the EU works.
The main problem with this country is voter turnout and who is turning out. We have got people that are from the boomer generation that see a changing country and as a result the vote to prevent what they deem as being an "invasion". The older generation is trying to prevent globalization, which unbeknownst to them Britain was at the forefront of in the 20th century. Young people have the opposite problem were they've mostly embraced globalization and diversity in Britain, however they aren't willing to vote to change the direction the country is going. Many people think that they're lazy, but that is far from the truth, young people have a lot to worry about i.e housing, education, employment etc essentially making them belief that the state the country is in is trivial compared to their problems. The internet/technology has a dual nature. The older generation, not being that familiar with technology, belief in almost any misinformation campaign that aligns with their values essentially ignoring the facts. While young people see the convoluted nature of our political system and either choose to ignore it or voice their opinions of social media platforms that don't influence voting patterns (like me hehe)
Conspiracy theories aren't helping anyone, this is the real world. Information is not being hidden from you, go research it and you can find anything out. Don't believe everything at face value even from the party to you subscribe to. Critical thinking is key.
@@JihadJoe_ That's irrelevant. Remaining is better than leaving because of leisurely, educational and employment opportunities. The fact that you are not guaranteed to a high-paying job if you move to an EU country is not a justifiable reason to cut ties with the EU. The EU also provides many job opportunities within the UK itself. Leaving the EU is a LOSE LOSE situation and the likelihood of getting a deal like Switzerland is implausible. The people that want to leave the EU are either uneducated, as they are unable to see the massive disadvantage or recession the UK will be in after leaving, or really old racist individuals.
Yassssss! I was waiting for so long!
I don't understand what any of these people want.
democracy
We already have that, it results in stalemate.
@@Pobotrol The result was in favour of leaving the EU.
@@awesomeavenger2810 Only just, a slim majority. Since then we had a General Election, resulting in a hung parliament, wide scale support for parties who want to leave in a controlled way that will do minimum damage to our economy and society.
These people don't want democracy, they want to force this simplistic agenda.
@@Pobotrol Since then we have had a parliament elected on the promise to respect the referendum result failing to do what they promised.
I can understand you might disagree with leaving the EU. I understand your arguments against doing so, although I dont agree with them (or rather, I find them outweighed by the opposing arguments). But I find it difficult to understand your inability to recognise why those who disagree with you on this issue should have a problem when, having won a referendum, the result is simply ignored.
The problem with many on the remain campaign is that rather than focus on the issues about why people voted to leave the EU, they decided instead to concentrate on why they _thought_ people voted to leave the EU.
It couldn't possibly be because, like people all over the world, those who voted to leave the EU instinctively felt the need to be able to hold those who govern them to account, to know who they are and how to get rid of them, but rather it had to be because they were either sad, mad, or bad.
If, rather than listening to what people say, you instead assume their motives to be something other than what they are telling you, and argue against that, then its no wonder you can't understand their thinking.
So sad.... people thinking Brexit will some how help them... :( it's only going to make them poorer..
@@Eamonnpd2 - History shows anti-establishment (lower orders/peasant) revolts like Brexit always end in distress for their supporters
People dont care about being poorer they want to feel free.

John Harris may be a Remainer, but he has a great way about him.
I'm sorry I sound so ignorant. Than you for educating me on this! I only saw that debate about the people that one time, I forget what it was some Westminster city or something. It was quite awesome to see how the elites on the stage were so clueless about the feelings of the audience.
Why did the journalist say "if you don't vote you lose to the gentleman we just met"? He didn't even ask what the second man's politics were - he just judged what he thought they should be from the colour of his skin.
What is britrix,
he says "diesel jeans" not "these old jeans." Which is obvious because he's commenting negatively on charity shops and saying he worked hard.

@@tig3662 11:10 "you go up Swindon high street on hot day like this, it's like I've gone away on holiday" . The delusion we tell ourselves is that this view is not prevalent up and down the country when in fact it is.

Cringe at the English guitar player putting on a Jamacian accent
That's not a Jamaican accent wtf?
Lol
This is what happens when capitalism declines. You have people either tune out or turn towards reactionary politics. People are right to need a change and the neoliberal institutions have failed them, the problem is they're being misdirected by the same elites that benefit from this system. If you want free markets, abolish private property. If you want to stop struggling every day, organize together and attack the systems that are keeping you down, not the people at the bottom. Demand a system that works for the people and not for the profit of a few.
Well done to Labour who managed to win somehow. The Brexit Party has lost because:
1) People are more cautious about their MPs than MEPs.
2) Not enough people turned up
3) The lack of a manifesto or policy positions is detrimental for a Westminster election
4) Donald Trump saying that the NHS was on the table for a deal with the US even though he backtracked on that was not good as the NHS is a holy cow which can destroy electoral ambitions if touched.
5) They feel no need for TBP if Brexit happens so when Boris Johnson promises them, for some reason they believe and vote Tory.
6) TBP has not attracted enough Labour voters. Simple maths shows that double the amount of disgruntled labour voters go to Lib Dems than TBP.
Now 'Change UK' has changed again!
Wow UK takes the lead and America follows.
Trying to understand the complexities that of Theresa May’s Chequers agreement is impossible for the ordinary man in the street so it’s not surprising that many people have given up thinking about it. What is easier to understand is that our mp’s are trying to overturn a Democrat vote by the people by telling us that it is too difficult to get through when in fact, they just want to cancel it altogether. As the lady said “ democracy is broken! It’s no surprise that the Brexit party has become so popular.
Same old England as like 1215 , Magna carta revived - thank heavens.
