The best video yet. I've been looking a several some with music, some where they don't talk, some that want to share their life story. This is the best. Thank You Very much. I won't even bother looking at others.
This is the best instruction on making the finger joints, most videos are using some expensive jig. I was surprised you did not pop a nail into the inner cover because its hard to get off at times. I'm still learning how to make a few pieces of bee equipment but I'm having difficulty with lumber prices vs the ready made kits.
I agree COMPLETELY about the half lap joint on the inner cover!! If you're making these on a commercial scale, sure... make the jig. For regular beekeepers, this is way more work than necessary. I made mine with miter joints, and they work very well.
Well done! Thank you for taking the time to make this video, you explained everything very well for us that have no to little experience with woodworking. Best video Ive seen yet. I'm going to give it a go, complete boxes are expensive to buy from the big box sellers.
I make a pitched roof with no metal just cheap off cuts joined and then sanded and primed, undercoated and two coats of White Gloss exterior Acrylic. Lasts for years and much easier than working with sheet metal or Aluminium. Plus I can just give it a light sand in 15 years and put another coat over it and be like brand new ;) Other than that great work, one day I will get myself a more professional table saw as now I can't use a dado blade and use the table saw and a chisel to do my joints :) Takes me a little longer but, I am retired and no hurry to get anywhere :)
Very well done. Did you ever consider doing a shop tour? That would be very interesting as you seem to have many tools and it would be nice to see you one sets up a shop like you have. Thank you for the bee keeping videos too.
Sweet but.. The handles work better if on the sides. Try carrying a box full of bees far and the frames can start to rattle around. Same with honey supers. Ten at a time on boxes because frames and foundations get discounted when u buy 100's.
Here is a link where they are currently posted: www.scribd.com/document/180505964/10-frame-Langstroth-Beehive-pdf I would put a copy on my blog but it is copyrighted.
I'm certainly not an expert but have you heard about "bee space"? Read up on that and see what you think. I just used the dimensions provided and was successful. Too much space and the bees will behave differently in that space and may glue your frames in place. Good luck with your bees!
Really interesting video. I am starting to read up a little about this fascinating process and would like to install the least amount of equipment to produce some honey for the wider family, not interested in selling. Will it work to install just a single brood box and one super?
One brood box and one super would be fine. You want to always have at least 2 hives going so you can share resources. For example if you found that one hive did not have a queen and no eggs you could take a frame with new eggs from one hive move it to the queenless hive and they will grow themselves a queen. Or you may already have a frame with a queen cell that you could move over. If you only have one hive you are really limited. Good luck!
Look on line for more information but the workers will create queen cells to grow queens. When you look at a frame they are much larger cells, look on line for a picture. In a hive with a queen the workers will sometimes grow additional queens in order to swarm or replace their queen. You can move those frames to other hives if they do not have a queen or use them to start a new hive.
Soat Mon thank. I seen that. Watched them all . My biggest problem , is that I got interested in bees late in the year. And souls have thought about it in October, November. But then that’s deer season.
Awesome tutorial !!! What model table saw are you using ? seems like with most table saw, the arbor needs to be changed to accomadate the 3/4 " stacked dado blade
Most US made table saws will accommodate the 3/4 stacked dado -- At least the full sized table saws - some of the compact may not. Another good reason to get a full sized one. European arbors on table saws do not allow for a dado set as far as I know.
Sorry it was boring for you. I have a lot of people thank me for not adding music. It's funny how different people like different things. Good luck with your bees.
You make some real purdy lookin bee boxes. FWIW, from my reading, scientific studies indicate *bees like these pastel colors* : Yellow to orange, Blue to purple and Greens. Blue green's a decent color. Colors in the red family: bright red to pink look black/nearly invisible to bees. Bees hate black. (How scientists came up with this I'll never know.) Best to mix up colors on boxes next to each other. Keeps a confused worker from entering wrong hive. And, *NO I DON'T know alls they is to beekeeping* .
At the 4:10 mark you have the 3/4 inch pegs. Do you make those yourself? If so, how do you make them? Beginner so sorry if it sounds like a silly question.
You make them from a scrap of wood, just use your regular table saw fence and rip it to 3/4 x 3/4. I hope that explains it for you, if not let me know. Good luck in your build!
Winner of a video, I've been looking for "hanging beehive plans" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Tiyia Beehive Basophilic - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my neighbour got excellent results with it.
Hay!! You cut out the best part... On the brake you bent the front an the back but you did not show breaking the left an right sides.. while I am a ton Smith is not a problem for me but for them who do not know you must cut or taper break the final edge and break it around but a good video...
Great channel. I’m just starting to research bees. I’m trying to learn. Just subbed. Check us out, we are just starting our channel. Any advice? For bees or growing our channel? Thanks.
This guy does an ABSOLUTE AWESOME JOB explaining and giving instuctions on building the langstroth bee hive. Excellents
Thanks!

You're welcome. I'm glad I gave you some encouragement. Good luck with your build and your bees!
Thanks..one of the best tutorials I've seen so far. I got horizontal hives but want to try the stacked Langs.
Thanks! Good luck with the new hives.
A well explained video on how to construct a Langstrougth hive. Keep it up. This will help me as I try to make my own Langstrougth hives.
Glad it helped!
This is my favorite demo and the easiest.. Awesome Carpenter.. Thanks..
You're welcome. Thank you for your kind words!
He's a very good teacher, thank you Sir for sharing.
You are very welcome
Wow! Those end cuts are something!
Thanks!
Great video! If I end up building some Langstroth's I'm definitely using this! Thanks for taking the time to post!
You're welcome, thanks for the comment!
wow, very useful instructional video and the hives you made are pretty colorful.
Thank you!
Really good video. Why anyone would thumbs down it is beyond me.
Thank you!!
First time I ever saw a live-edge fence. Cool!
LOL Thanks!
At around the 13:50 mark your glasses are showing an image of a star onto your work table, lol.
Your video is Educative Bro, its of great help to me here in kenya. Thanks alot.
Thank you for letting me know it was helpful!
Great video thanks for taking the time to post it 👍🏻
Your welcome, thanks for the comment!

Sounds like a great idea! I often forget how long painted wood will last.
What table saw is that and what blade you using for the 3/4 cut
Very well done. Did you ever consider doing a shop tour? That would be very interesting as you seem to have many tools and it would be nice to see you one sets up a shop like you have. Thank you for the bee keeping videos too.
Great work. I would paint the tops under the tin. Bare wood will absorb moisture in the air.
Great Video ! what nails are You using to nail the boxes ? Thanks
Great video - definitely going to try this
Thanks!
Is the very top of dovetail fastened with a nail or no?
Those galvanized tops get cooking hot, use white flashing instead
Nice work. Subscribed all the way from Chile. Jim
Awesome! Glad to hear from you in Chile!
Thanks for putting this out. Great video!
You're welcome!

"The best bee hive box building instruction video."
Wow. Thanks!!
What nail gun/nail Do you use?
Nice paint
Thanks!
I need help what does '' this mean in mesurement. And what's 19-7/8". Please explain. Express that in inch please
It's 19 inches plus 7/8ths inches.
Hi could you attach a higher resolution photo of the plan you used I cannot find one anywhere
Here is a link where they are currently posted: www.scribd.com/document/180505964/10-frame-Langstroth-Beehive-pdf I would put a copy on my blog but it is copyrighted.
I do have a question... 9 5/8 deep? Does 1/8" actually make a difference if you used a 1x10. The cost of wood these days, just wondering.
I'm certainly not an expert but have you heard about "bee space"? Read up on that and see what you think. I just used the dimensions provided and was successful. Too much space and the bees will behave differently in that space and may glue your frames in place. Good luck with your bees!
Love the colors
Thanks!

Great Job! Very helpful.
Thanks!
How many sets you make out of a 4 x 8 ?
What kind of wood do you recommend? Or top 2 or 3 wood types that would hold up well? Any types to stay away from for risking harm to bees? Thanks!!
I use yellow pine, spruce would work also. They are cheap and when painted will last a long time.
Where do you make the inner frames; or do you buy them?
You can make them but they are pretty cheap to buy. Thanks for the comment!
Отлично и полезно, спасибо!

Soat Mon Thanks for the great advice. Makes sense. What do you mean by a Queen Cell??

Soat Mon thanks! Yes lots more reading to do 😊. I have a year to learn. Targeting March April next year to start. Thank you once again
Amazing job bro
Thanks A bunch
Thanks!
Very nicely done. Nice shop ! Did you do a follow up on bees ?
Thanks! I did do some videos on the bees, you can check out my channel. I have a bee play list that should show you most of them.
Soat Mon thank. I seen that. Watched them all . My biggest problem , is that I got interested in bees late in the year. And souls have thought about it in October, November. But then that’s deer season.
What length are the handles
Not sure. You would probably want them at least 6 inches and could be as long as the side. Thanks for watching!
did I miss the link to the paper to print??

It's a Grizzly I bought a long time ago. Great saw.

What brand of Saw table is that? seems very common in the US!!
It's a Grizzly brand.
@@SoatMon : Thank you very much
you need to add some music or something that way people wont get bored
Sorry it was boring for you. I have a lot of people thank me for not adding music. It's funny how different people like different things. Good luck with your bees.
Great video Sir...im confused, do I have to build my own frames then?
You can buy frames already assembled but they are cheaper if you buy the pieces and assemble them yourself.
great video. thx!
You're welcome!
I love the yellow color. What paint color is this?
Sherwin Williams 6907 Forsythia.
Thank you. Do you mind giving me the other paint colors? Thanks for your help.
Would you know the other colors number? and are they Sherman Williams ?
bonjour le lien il ne marche pas
mercj
Do you know roughly how much it cost to get the supplies for each of these? Great video!
Thanks! I'm sorry I don't know the cost.
Nice do you sell them?
Sorry no.
What happened to your finger?

What kind of paint?
Exterior latex.
Frames?
I bought the frames and assembled them. They are pretty cheap and there are lots of cuts if you make them.
wax your table and wood slide easy. no squeaks
Thanks for watching!
🤙
Thanks!
Never trust a wood worker who hasn't lost a finger.
LOL
plans are no longer there!
Sorry about that. I think it's fixed now. Try this link: www.soatmon.com/2017/06/blog-post.html
Great video any chance in future video you also mention metric as this is more common outside the US for your international watchers.
Thanks! I'll have to keep metric in mind.
How to build a bee hive
What about the queen excluder?
You only need one if you want to keep the queen out of the honey supers.
Great channel. I’m just starting to research bees. I’m trying to learn. Just subbed. Check us out, we are just starting our channel. Any advice? For bees or growing our channel? Thanks.
Try explaining dimensions in metric , dam it ,you amercians get with the rest of the world !!!!
Rod Walpole says the person writing this in English, but it is easier. 🤓
I bought a box and built all the rest from those diminisions
Never"
If we have to convert from mm to imperial it only seems fair that you should also have to do the opposite! :)
