Interesting i get this problem, but then again i have my Model:Cycle running through the SP-404 since Day1 so everything i like, allways gets sampled, be it a single note or full length patterns/tracks
That’s smart, I’m sure it’s user error on my end, but it still took the wind out of me for that device, I have been sampling some the sounds into the ARmk2 which has worked well!
Did you contact support about the info loss? I tried to reproduce the error and couldn't. Any pattern saved to project persists after moving between projects, without saving changes in the confirmation window. 😢
Interesting, appreciate that you tried to troubleshoot, i don’t think I reached out to Elektron directly, tho this all happened a while ago I may have. After it happened I was pretty upset and tried to recreate it and I was able to make pattern switch project and lose the pattern again, it was def repeatable, I couldn’t believe it and had to test it again for myself. The only thing I can think of is maybe this was patched in firmware, I do not think I have ever updated the firmware for it, and I order the MC when it first came out. Im glad to hear you haven’t had this issue, it’s a drag to deal with
My main thing is having issue print it with something else like another drum machine and then I loose the fm vibe but that’s what I like about it in the first place
Yeah I actually think for an FM box it is pretty versatile, i love the sounds on it! But after using the Rytm for several months now, the file formatting and workflow is difficult to go back to, it is missing some much needed buttons.
I have the Model cycles too, but never had this issue, maybye a firmware bug or something like that? I don't use so much my Model Cycles now, already when I bought it, I was disappointed about the fact there no clap (just a snare) it was a little bit frustrating for me. I bought the Syntakt one year after, after nd obviously it's way better, and there is lot of different machines in it, but it's not the same price. The Model Cycles is a good groovebox/drum machine for the price, but it could be restrictive for some things sometimes.
Hey thanks for stopping by! The Syntakt looks great! I was torn between that and AR when I was looking at upgrading devices. I love my MC most of the time just not that day! Haha
I had updated the firmware on it. though I'm not sure if there was additional firmware at the time I lost all my work. Now that I have the ARmk2, I'm constantly going thru and saving kit, saving pattern, and saving project, because that device also will not save in a short term memory. I'll have to check what my firmware is on the MC
He didn’t save when switching projects. All of the electron machines have this behavior. Just say “yes” when it asks you to save the project, or save the project at the end of a session.
@@pgmjsd right... I think I say in there something about user error.....but after 100's of power cycles it saved everything every single time...it's not completely nuts to assume it would save the patterns when switching between projects as well.
@@NoiseToMostYep. It's happened to me before. I think the idea is to support the "live set" workflow where you want to discard all the temporary changes you made during the performance. Just need to be mindful when switching projects.
@@pgmjsd I learned that lesson the hardway, now I save Pattern, Kit, and Project frequently and often on my ARmk2. Losing all my work and not being able to record the individual tracks made the choice easy to change machines.
@elek-trick bro wow its embarrassing indeed :)) - its all fine :D @@NoiseToMost here u go buddy Model:Cycles cdn.www.elektron.se/media/downloads/model-cycles/Model-Cycles-User-Manual_ENG_OS1.13_210602.pdf
@@NoiseToMost p42 of the manual talks about saving and loading projects. It also has 2 warnings that loading a project will erase anything that's in memory at the time. It fails to mention that you can't save the Stock project on top of itself, and the dialog involved is a little tricky. I had a similar experience, what I figured out is you need to scroll down to an empty slot and select Save, which will allow you to save Stock to a different project (Stock1 for example). That would have kept your changes that you had been building up for a year. Elektron devices have a number of non-intuitive "features", it definitely takes some getting used to.
Ghost in machine. G.I.M. IM STILL LEARNING after 2 years but mine hasn't done that yet. I have accidentally erased tracks from going to flowing to fast
Yeah it's a precautionary tale, I would have thought since it kept all the patterns in memory through power cycles it would have saved them when switching projects, but indeed the Ghost was not having that.

You ran probably into a firmware bug. Elektron recommends updating the MC, because you can lose parts of your work.
