Fantastic overview/demo! I have a Digitone - and it's great... but SOOOO deep it almost feels like 'too much' for how I want to use it. I love the cycles 'simplified' control/models. It just seems more jam-like/explorative than the Digitone due to this. Any comparative thoughts? I might trade mine in for this 'simpler' machine - LOL!
You contradict yourself at several points throughout the video, but this one was particularly noteworthy as it happened just 1.5 minutes apart: 17:08 "this groovebox is definitely more powerful than the specs suggest. If you look at each individual machine, you might say 'it's quite limited,' but in all honesty ... you can do quite a lot with it." 18:30 "It's easy to understand and easy to use, especially in a live environment, but it's also very limited." So, which is it? Limited or not??
Good Video mr Bo! I'm absolutely with you with the Pro's and Con's. it looks quite good and sounds pretty good as well ... nothing I would spend my $$$ on but definitely cool to get into elektron synths. Especially for beginners i would recommend the Roland mc101 instead of the Model Cycles. :) Cheers!
I like the sound of it Bo, but mein Gott, what happened to the design, the colour. It seems somehow it bypassed the usual stylish Swedish design, but I guess you listen with your ears not your eyes. Keep up the good work Bo.
Oh, there is not that much of a similarity besides the sequencer tbh. Maybe they sound a bit similar but its really not meaningful to compare the two. Digitone offers more polyphony and deep FM synthesis.
Sounds can be so subjective, so I say that a groovebox is only as good as it's sequencer. The elektron sequencer workflow isn't for everyone, but no one can say it isn't insanely powerful.
Hmmm,I bought the model:samples last june for € 449 (availabe it was since january) and since december or january it is € 299. Can we expect a similiar price drop (~30 %) with the model:cycles after, say, a year ? It's now about € 330,- . Could then be about 200,- (all prices incl. VAT). The lack of Overbridge integration makes both model:xxx not really attractive. They would be really nice instruments with at least a native editor for the patterns. Novation Circuit Mono Station is now 270 € incl. VAT, btw. The original Circuit seems to be out of production. So, competitive price, that's not really a thing (but was it ever with Elektron ?).
Thank you Bo, nice review as always! Sounds good but the feeling with the box is, for me, way far from the Digitakt, Digitone etc... which are more attractive and inspirational Elektron's gears. But ok, the target is not the same. All the best

Nice review, interesting look, nice sounds 👍🏽... does it print labels too? 🤣
No but it works as an EKG 👌
Fantastic overview/demo! I have a Digitone - and it's great... but SOOOO deep it almost feels like 'too much' for how I want to use it. I love the cycles 'simplified' control/models. It just seems more jam-like/explorative than the Digitone due to this. Any comparative thoughts? I might trade mine in for this 'simpler' machine - LOL!
I traded up from a Cycles to a DT. Even though the DT is really nice I really miss the Cycles for easy drums and bass. Great little box.
Still no way to save pattern chains?
You contradict yourself at several points throughout the video, but this one was particularly noteworthy as it happened just 1.5 minutes apart:
17:08 "this groovebox is definitely more powerful than the specs suggest. If you look at each individual machine, you might say 'it's quite limited,' but in all honesty ... you can do quite a lot with it."
18:30 "It's easy to understand and easy to use, especially in a live environment, but it's also very limited."
So, which is it? Limited or not??
Its limited in terms of tracks and specs, but what you can do with it is more than the sum of its parts.
Why does it have to 90's PC off white?
Because the 90’s are back!
How many steps does the sequencer run to? 64
Same workflow as digitakt .I like it
Yepp
Looks a good machine for standalone grooves ,but check out drum computer from sugarbytes .I guarantee you will love that
Good Video mr Bo!
Cheers!
I like the sound of it Bo, but mein Gott, what happened to the design, the colour. It seems somehow it bypassed the usual stylish Swedish design, but I guess you listen with your ears not your eyes. Keep up the good work Bo.
can you push down the encoders and turn for fast parameter change?
Yes
HI, will this accept direct usb midi? I mean pluggin directly the usb keyboard to the cycles, without using the usb host.
No. At least, my M:S won’t. I have to use a phone or tablet as a MIDI repeater/link.
This thing is a blast! I've created really good sounding deep house sketches in it.
Can a machine be used in several tracks e.g. The tone track used on 3 or 4 tracks at the same time?
Yes
@@BoBeats Thanks Bo. Another great demo from you. Really looking forward to playing with this and teaming it up with the model samples.
Sounds great, but I think I like the Samples version better.
What is the real difference to the Digitone?
Oh, there is not that much of a similarity besides the sequencer tbh. Maybe they sound a bit similar but its really not meaningful to compare the two. Digitone offers more polyphony and deep FM synthesis.
It will be mine.
Party on Wayne!
I need to cop one of these ASAP, I have the samples so I really want this one as well.
Very cool. I think it sounds great, looks great (obviously not everyone would agree) and the price is great. Just need more desktop real estate now 🤔
It kind of looks like a very fancy Volca Drum. Though the Synth Lock thing and the effects take it into a different league. It sounds good.
Can you parameter lock chord type per step?
yes
hmmm I stick to my OP-Z, but does deliver twice more plastic mass for twice less money :) Fun watching, Bo!
Sounds can be so subjective, so I say that a groovebox is only as good as it's sequencer. The elektron sequencer workflow isn't for everyone, but no one can say it isn't insanely powerful.
100%
Thx, great substantial review!
Nice beat bo.
Good review and demonstration of the features. I won't be replacing any of my other Elektrons for it but this looks like a good bang for your buck.
I already own a digtakt and digitone so I really dont need this. But for $300 I'll probably get one anyway
Thank you Bo, nice review as always! Sounds good but the feeling with the box is, for me, way far from the Digitakt, Digitone etc... which are more attractive and inspirational Elektron's gears. But ok, the target is not the same. All the best
I also started with RM1X 😜 I still use it sometimes 🖖 cycles is definitively on my wishlist 😍
Bo beats you're the valley girl of synthesizer gurus. And thank you for the informative video.
Love ya!! 😂😂
is it automatically good?
