    The perception of time being more realistic for ADHD people has always made me chuckle. I always thought that too.

      YES, I get so antsy when I'm trying to work the room is either too hot or too cold or if I've dressed not weather appropriate

    Great tips all around, I'm a big fan of externalizing everything! One note though: mind mapping is actually a fairly rigid and hierarchical process when done by the book, and I've found it to be quite difficult to adhere to when I tried it a few years ago. Then I realized that most of the time when people talk about mind mapping they actually mean dumping their unstructured thoughts onto a large sheet of paper, and letting the diagram emerge in an organic way, which sounds a lot more ADHD-friendly.

      Oooh this is a good point re: using the word mind mapping because what I actually mean is brain dump in a visual expansive manner.

    Thank you so much for this video. The first point about linear time perception being contrary to how modern physics describes time is brilliant. Non-linear thought is more akin to eastern cosmology anyhow and has always seemed a better fit for me personally, with my ADHD brain. And what you said at around 6:00 about being "in a tizzy" because there is some unrecognized signal to tend to something else first really resonated with me. I over focus on whatever task I have in mind to the point I forget self-care things like walking, talking with real people in person, eating, etc.. It's as if the build-up of ignored maintenance in the back of my mind is the mental reflection of forgetting-to-piss-so-I-hold-it-until-I-can't. My anxiety goes up when I'm straining to clean out the garage instead of brushing my teeth, if that makes any sense.

      I'm glad you like the linear time perception being contrary to modern physics. It's been rolling around in my brain for a while but need to pull the pieces together to fully articulate it (and I am not a physics person at all ha!) Also, 'unrecognised signal to tend to something first' is a really good way to describe it!

    Thanks for taking the time to remind or inform us of these things. Honestly, i wouldn't stress about a weekly video - if you took a poll of your viewers they'd probably say they don't have time for half of the youtube videos they subscribe to each week. For a content creator who does it their way, when they have the time/energy/inclination , like yourself, it's worth hitting the notification bell.

    Great tips! I do some of those but there are some that I either didn’t think of or needed to be reminded of doing more. To the point of time perception and the concept of time, I’ve never though about it before, but you’re onto something. Time passing itself is dependent of it’s reference, and I feel like ADHD makes us be aware of all references inevitably all the time, while a neurotypical person can see these references as well, but with more agency to be able to asses their place within that and then shut out all of it when needed. Idk. I’m assuming. It’d be cool to see what you think about that more, if you do consider it for a future video.
    Also, I love your videos! I can relate to so much of what you say and seeing you talk about your struggles makes me feel empathetic towards you, which in turn makes me be more empathetic and forgiving to myself. Lately it’s been tough and that’s been helpful, so thank you!

      YES exactly what you said re: time perception! I really wanna do a full video on it but need to pull the strands together to articulate it. And I love physics but it also baffles my brain haha Maybe I need to find a physicist to interview - oooo!
      So glad to hear that your empathy for me makes you more self empathetic!!

    Hi Rachel, firstly thank you for this video, without people like you making this kind of content I would feel so alone. I have been in a pit of ADHD burn out for at least a month from always being now or never 👎 I'm slowly getting to the other side so going to binge watch all your videos I've missed 😁 I watched a documentary once about a monk with ADHD who said meditation (listening so his breath) and practicing silence actually saved his life. Now monks are to the extreme but I'm definitely going to try, even for ten minutes a day, taking time to just breath and let my thoughts wonder in and out of my brain. I wish we could be like kids again when days felt so long and you could easily spend hours getting lost in something, like you say without having to achieve an outcome. Lastly I always love what you're wearing ❤️ I spent years wearing neutral colours and have realised I actually hate it and need more colour in my life!! Keep being you, Cat X X

      I was thinking I hadn't seen you in the comments for a while 😊YESSS to being kids again exploring, please please. I went to a talk last night about the Wim Hof method which involves breathing exercises so I'm also thinking about meditation and breath at the moment. Trying to work out where to get started but I think you're onto something there! And yay to embracing colour!!

    Curvilinear time sounds cool. How about if time, if it exists outside our own contstructs, is actually a kind of eternally stretchy 'bubble' we're in?
    Maybe a little like a time pinball where we move randomly or are directed by bumping into other travellers?
    Or...we might loop around and meet others and situations we've seen before (deja vu)?

    Time is as real as space, but space and time are linked and are sometimes thought of as one thing - spacetime. Spacetime is curved by things like gravity and travelling quickly, and technically flying on a plane or climbing a mountain does change the rate at which time passes, but in reality earth's gravity isn't very big and planes don't go very fast, so you can only measure the difference of climbing Everest or flying on Concorde with ridiculously accurate clocks that measure the difference in fractions of a second (I think they actually did put clocks on planes to measure it). However, the equations for that were too difficult, so we looked at growing and shrinking rulers on trains travelling half the speed of light instead, and also how to derive the famous E=mc², which wasn't too hard compared too all the time and gravity and acceleration stuff. That's what I remember from 20 years ago. Bit of a tangent, but curved time was vaguely mentioned.

    Hi Rachel, can I ask where you got your ADHD diagnosis? I would like to have an assessment done, but I want to make sure they're knowledgable on the symptoms in women specifically. I have the exact same symptoms as you - it's like listening to myself watching your videos! It's almost painful to watch and realise the struggles I've had throughout my life can all be explained by ADHD. But it's also really comforting to know, it's not my fault I am this way.

      I had it with Berkeley Psychiatrists in London (though all done remotely). The Psychiatrist was great, but then I also had my medication follow up appointment with the prescribing pharmacist who specialised in women and hormones in ADHD so that was exceptionally helpful.
