This sounds like a good idea except for one thing: What if the pin cushion gets damp due to a spill or high humidity? The steel wool could rust and stain the pin cushion.
Brette Pruitt, I guess it would, but what are the chances of that happening. I live in Florida and my pin cushion works a charm, no rust and I made it close to 3 years ago.
Treasurie it came out ok! Made putting in pins a little harder. Don’t think I cut down the fabric enough and probably should’ve made the pieces smaller to ensure it was managable for pins. Overall it worked well!! I’m pretty pleased! Think ill make another tomorrow!
Thank you for your nice feedback. In regards to your question, it is important to clip around the edges as it eliminates the bulk. This will give you a smooth edge while maintaining the curved shape. Happy sewing! :)
Just what I was looking for. Thank you it looks like the ones at Walmart and Amazon are way too small. Anyway I'll get it sooner if I start in on it tonight I'll deliver it to myself in the morning LOL😂
mam im happy to inform u that soonly u will get hella views as my whole 9th grade in school all sections are gonna watch your video on how to make pin cushion cuz we have this as our english activity
thank you I have one but it is gray, which is my least favorite color, now I can make my own, also if you add a small strip of elastic to the middle, use a button top and bottom. you can wear it on your wrist.
If you scroll down the comments you'll see people have used scraps of fabric and sawdust. I think scraps is the easiest and cleanest. Thanks for watching.
Treasurie thank you for replying! I repair sewing machines, and I link everyone to your channel! Thank you for your awesome videos, I’ve made dozens of the dog bandannas and everyone loves them!!
Hi, it is called clipping the curves. Here is an article on my blog about it blog.treasurie.com/clip-corners-curves/ . Basically it means that when you turn it the right way out, the fabric won't wrinkle and pull at the seam. It releases the tension so you get nice curves. Thanks for watching.
You could also stuff with a very fine steel wool so that every time you put in or take out pins they get sharpened.
Great idea!
Thats a great idea
Agreed!

My project for tomorrow. Except i think I’ll stuff it with scrap fabric since that’s all I have and have tons of it! Love this!!
Using fabric as stuffing is a great idea. It would feel heavier in the hand which would be great. Thanks for watching.

@@brittanybeauty916 Thanks for the feedback. Good idea about cutting the scraps smaller. :)
@@treasurie I have stuffed a small pincushion with rice (uncooked of course!), which worked nicely and made the pincushion a bit heavier/more stable.
@@YONATANAJ I like that idea. I have another customer that used wood chips. Thanks for your suggestion.

Can you do this on a square pin cushion?
The segmenting wouldn't work as well but you could certainly do something similar.

I like to stuff pincushions with crushed walnut shells. They not only sharpen the pins but won’t rust them if left in too long.

Why didn't you finish the hand-sewn seam with an invisible stitch? Nice idea, but the details are important - even in a pin cushion!
You are right that would have been better. Thanks for your input. Sometimes when filming I do things the fast way.
Yeah!!It is very nice

What kind of Thread.??
Normal polyester thread for the sewing and embroidery floss for the segments at the end.
I.m looking for a fabric scrap book?
Great idea! Thanks for watching.
amazing design
Hi Surjeet, thanks so much for the compliment. Have a great week. Dixi
Where did you get your thread?
I like Rasant brand as it is nice and strong. For the outside segments, upholstery thread works well as it is thicker and stronger.
