The specials , the english beat, the selecter my favourite ska bands as a teenager in late 70s britain …
Those are excellent bands!
Bosstones are the most important to me. Those early albums were ground breaking, I'm in the UK and grew up in the time of The Specials and the whole two tone thing ... but when I first heard the Bosstones I was blown away, they took it to a whole new level.
Absolutely LOVE the Mighty Mighty Bosstones!
And also the Pacers from beer City records
Not sure i know this one...
Skatalites, Prince Buster, Desmond Decker, Toots and the Maytals, ... Just some..
Of course Robert Marley..
Then came, Alton Ellis Phyllis D, Paragons, Melodions, Ken Booth,
Stay Rude, Stay Roots and Keep Your Boots Stomping..
The History of Reggae is also the History of Skinhead subculture..
The Rudiments
hell yeah man! wailing paddle was my shit. bitch bitch bitch was amazing
Great show…clearly:)
Lol, thanks man, sorry I didn't do more "homework" though....
My top 5 ska bands:
5. The Busters
4. Skaos
3. The Selecter
2. The Specials
1. The Hotknives
I love Operation Ivy, but to me they fit more into the punk bracket than ska.
Cool list.
Depends on the kind of ska, I look at Op Ivy as a ska band
My fave top 5 are the Bosstones, Streetlight, the Toasters, VGS and Op Ivy
Great Top 5. My 5 all time favorites are probably Op Ivy, The Specials, Bosstones, Aggrolites, the Gadjits.
Special mention to Less Than Jake having 2 perfect albums in Losing Streak and Hello Rockview, but I'm not a huge fan of the rest of their discography
Hey I like kill Lincoln! Another ska band doesn’t get enough love Canada’s own planet smashers. Seen them three times twice in English once in French. Mike from mxpx gave them a shout out a few months ago on satellite radio.
Planet Smashers were pretty good, I still have their demo cassette.
In terms of the Clash playing "ska," they also dabbled in funk, pop, hip-hop, and disco. The songs they covered, like "Pressure Drop," didn't necessarily have that Mento Rhythm. Tracks like "Police and Thieves" had more rock guitar than Reggae.
👍 Yep
The assorted jelly beans randall❤
I've heard the name, and I'm sure at some point, the band, but i cant recall their sound. I'll have to rediscover them
Vic from the slackers is a great keyboardst
As well as being a great keyboard player, he's a great songwriter. "Red Light" and "The Question" are probably the 2 greatest ska records from the 90s.
What about the specials gentlemen the selector the English beat from Birmingham coventry
We definitely mentioned The Specials, but this was supposed to be a MODERN ska bands list and my homie switched it up on me last minute, lol. I'll have another installment of this series for sure and will cover The Specials for sure, and most likely The Selector as well
Considered the 2nd wave.. Two Tone era.. title gladly excepted..
Madness, The Specials, The " English" Beat, Selector, BAD MANNERS, ....
Ska, Rock Steady, Reggae...
Cheers from Orange County California 🇺🇸
Am I the only one that heard the Rudiments
No, they're just not a "Top 5 Ska Band" list type of band. Not saying they weren't good, but I don't remember them having an entire album of bangers, or being super impactful. Didn't they only have 1 full length? Saying all that and now I want to go listen to them again... lol
Roger rivas on organ is genius. No2 after Jackie Mitto.
I wish I knew more about the members in some of those bands... I love the organ, too, what is your favorite record featuring Roger Rivas on organ?
@@thepunkrockreview my alltime fav song is death at 10 paces.... I'm more in Instrumentals . I recommend you the guys from allstar travellers from Mexico. I think they played some gigs with the Aggrolites. Very heavy Tunes.
I'll check it out!
don’t forget winston wright
@@nitinnimgaonkar5306 good one. I just realise he was the Keyboarder of the upsetters. Night doctor is for ever in my ears
Except of the Aggrolites and slackers i don't know any of the other US Bands. What about skoidats, HCS and israelites?
Those are good bands, but not ones I listen to often. I'd say I know the Skoidats more than the other 2
@@thepunkrockreview yeah i think ska in US is more a punk than a skinhead thing. In Germany its the other way around
Israelites, Yeska , Oceans 11, Hepcat (RIP Greg Lee), Mobtown, just some of the.. 90s era Traditional Ska/Rock Stead band's.. from Southern California..
Heavy And sometimes Violent.. but strick Traditional Skinhead scene..
The 3rd wave Ska-core,, was around for sure.. but .. ahh we motivated the Promoters to stop mixing the show's..
Cheers from Orange County California 🇺🇸
@AtZero138 i totally Like the Boilers from NYC. But there's Not much to find of them in the Internet. And in Germany there is a wellkniwn Punkrock band named the Broilers and this has an irritating effect on my searching results.
B flat
???
Bob Marley started out asa ska artist, dude. Do your homework.
😂😂😂😂
Find that funny? Why don't you actually listen to the music before you insinuate that BM shouldn't be listed as a great ska artist. From what I can tell, you know zilch about the music. I find that funny. Leave it to the experts, pal. And yah, next time do your homework so you don't look like a clown.
