This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updates 2023 Toyota venza compact hybrid SUV. With excellent fuel economy and a modern design, the Toyota Venza is one hybrid that’s tough to pass up. There are some changes coming for 2023, is it worth waiting for the 2023 model? Let’s go through some of those changes. There is one important change for 2023 Toyota Venza that would make me want to wait, it will have the new Toyota Audio Multi-media system, this will be a great improvement and in the US, the 12.3” touchscreen with touch capacitive controls is standard on XLE models. In Canada, XLE models already have this as standard equipment. This system allows for dual Bluetooth phone connectivity with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. In addition, Venza LE and XLE models will get a 7” multi-information display instead of 4.2” and the top trim a 12.3” digital instrument cluster. In the US, the 10” head-up display will now be standard on the top trim, it is standard in the 2022 model Toyota Venza in Canada. There will also be a new Toyota Venza Nightshade Edition based on the Venza XLE trim level with black exterior accents, 19” black wheels and available in three colours, Celestial Black, Wind Chill Pearl and Ruby Flare Red. Other changes include, LED fog lights now standard on XLE models and above and the Star Gaze fixed panoramic sunroof will not only be available on the top trim but also on the Nightshade model. Some good news, the 2023 Toyota Venza gets an 8-way power passenger seat on the top Limited trim, so finally there is height adjustment but only on the top model. The Toyota Venza has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine matched to an ECVT with Hybrid Synergy Drive, 219 net horsepower, standard AWD. You can’t beat the fuel economy on this Venza hybrid, it gets 5.9L/100 km, 40 MPG city and 6.4L/100 km, 37 MPG highway. The 2022 model starts at $39,150 CAD/$33,240 USD, XLE $45,150 CAD/$36,775 USD and the Limited $48,550 CAD/$40,730 USD.
Competitors to the Toyota Venza include the Toyota RAV4 hybrid, Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, Kia Sorento hybrid, Ford Escape hybrid and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

What do you think of the new changes to the 2023 Venza?
tow rating still @ zero?
@@robertduklus6555 Yes, still not rated for towing
One of my friends has a Venza and loves it.
I often forget this model exists....but then I see a great review like yours and I'm reminded about Toyota CSUVs...oh yeah that's right...its an option..but I'm not excited or inspired by it. Seems like it still feels like a rental car forgetably moving you from point A to B.
I'm with Zach! Buttons and knobs while spending less money is the way to go.
I have 21 top trim and it makes random braking noise so loud it irritates everyone inside. Also lots of cabin noise. Common problem with Toyota. Honda is good and Nissan is way better with cabin noise. Also lots of quality issues.
Andrea has been working out lately. Looking good! You’re half the reason I watch the channel!
Got my 2023 Venza Limited last week. They slightly reconfigured the HVAC control layout, and it is much more user friendly. The new infotainment is great because you now get to use the whole screen instead of having part of it being dedicated to HVAC controls. The build quality is much better than that of the NX350h
Their little changes but okay, also agree with Zack and many others on here about the roof, for the price that they charge they have a sunroof...great review Andrea and Zack!
We love our '21 Venza Limited. We got the blueprint blue with the grey interior and it is beautiful. I like the electrochroamatic sunroof but I do agree with Andrea and would like the sunroof to open. Our gas mileage has been incredible for the size of vehicle. I often get city trips as low as 3.7 L/100km. Since getting the Venza at the end of August, we are averaging 6.3 L/100km through mostly winter driving (and that is half the gas usage from our previous cars!). We have been very surprised at how nice the Softex seats are and how comfortable they are. I have to say that living in a city, we rarely 'gun it' and so we find the Venza to be a very quiet vehicle. On the highway, we hear the engine a bit when accelerating to speed but once at speed, the Venza is quiet.
My biggest complaint has been the creaky noise we sometimes get from the C pillar and the cross bar of the sunroof when driving over some road bumps. This is our first Toyota (after having an Acura and a Mazda) and so we were expecting better Toyota build quality. The only other glitch I can think of is the weather app on the infotainment centre seems to show for another city than we live in (the other city is about 10 km away). It will switch to my city when I'm further from this other city. The dealer checked other Venzas and found the app did the same thing in them. Weird. Easy solution, just get rid of the app from the screen. Apple CarPlay does the job.
In the end, we got just what we wanted. A vehicle that allows us easy access, lots of room and great gas mileage. Thank you for a great video Andrea and Zack.
**An update (Dec 30/23) We are now averaging 5.72 L/100 km or 41.1 mpg after 2 years of driving our Venza. Still love it and blown away by the great mileage.
My wife just bought a 2023 Venza Limited, absolutely love it so far! We don't have any children at home so for us it has plenty of passenger and cargo room. Really like the styling better than the RAV4 and Highlanders we looked at.
Great review Andrea and Zack!!!
Get one! They're excellent vehicles. Glad we got one for our family. Recently took it Florida and it was more than up to the task. As the weather warms in the north the milage is improving. 39.2 lifetime average mpg so far and going up!
I only miss a heated steering wheel and cooled seats. Great review, Motormouth!
Thanks for sharing this and we are so glad you enjoyed the review!
This is a great SUV hybrid vehicle and great review. I love your reviews so much I got internet when I was in the hospital a week so I would not miss any reviews. Thanks
Oh that's so awesome to hear, thank you very much. I hope you are feeling better and are on the mend!
I like to roof.
I have terrible allergies and can never ride with my windows down or the pano roof open. This is a great option for allergy sufferers like me who sometimes want more light in the cabin
Great Video... Thank you 🙏
How to turn on AC in back under the arm rest?
I would love to have moon or sun roof that opens!!!!
Whose here not only for their very informative video but also to see what the most stylish couple is wearing today 😀. Andrea I love your fashion sense ❤️
Awe thank you so much!! 🙏
I drive between Kelowna, BC and Rock Creek, BC several times a month. I find great pleasure diving this road in an cool early evening during the summer with the sunroof open. I really enjoy the light and fresh air of a sunroof along this route because of the forest that you can see through the roof. And the smell. It's wonderful! Zack is so wrong.
I've had experience with Kia and Hyundai's in the past, and from my experience, they are well featured cars that seem to be decent for at least 5 years. However, after about year 7, they start to have many issues. I bought extended warranties so repairs were covered under that, but the dealership experience was always terrible. When I chose to replace my last vehicle, I chose the Venza Limited for a few reasons. One, I am hoping the Toyota dealership experience is better (it couldn't get worse than our experience at Kia). Secondly, I wanted something good on fuel since I figured fuel prices would increase over time (they have) and I wanted something with long term reliability, which Toyota Hybrids are known for. Strong resale value was also a nice added benefit. I've had my Venza now for almost 10 months and it's been great. No issues with it. I did buy some Michelin Cross Climate2 all weather tires for it last fall and they were great all winter (Southwestern Ontario) and saves me money changing and storing tires every spring and fall (which costs about $250/year). I sold the stock tires online to recoup a bit of money back. While the Star Gazer roof is a gimmick, it's actually a great feature. Roofs that open are mostly useless since the amount of wind noise/buffeting is always excessive and if you forget to close it, you can get bugs, dirt, rain in your vehicle. Also, the large glass roof lets in a lot of light to brighten up the cabin (since it's mostly dark in colour) and the "frosted" look prevents glare from the sun. While I do prefer buttons/knobs over the touch buttons, you do get used to them pretty quickly and in most cases, you set things once and don't need to fiddle with them much. The steering wheel does have buttons to control some common things if that helps. The fuel economy is outstanding and is very impressive. On my 26km work commute in city traffic during the spring/summer/fall, I've seen as low as 4.5L/100 kms (52 mpg). Fuel economy is a bit worse in the winter (since the engine runs a bit more often to keep the cabin warm), but it's often still in the 6s (35-40 mpg). Keep in mind, regular gas cars also use more fuel in the colder months too, so you'll use more fuel regardless. For comparison's sake, our Sorento with the 2.0L Turbo engine, in the city, is typically in the high 12s or low 13s (comparable to other V6 powered compact CUVs), so the Venza uses half to a third the fuel.
I got the same impression about the Korean manufactured cars. They look good and have a lot of standard features and tech for the money but they don't have the long term reliability of the Japanese manufactured vehicles. Glad you're enjoying your Venza.
@@kartofle123 they Impress u by ooo big screen ventilated seats for cheap meanwhile they’re cutting cost in other areas like the power train
I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Limited that has become a money pit within the past two years - including an engine recall! I've lost trust in Hyundai's longterm quality and your comment kinda supports my fears. Unfortunately, Venzas are nowhere to be found at any dealers. I guess I'll have to hold on until inventory improves, like...I dunno...maybe a year from now. :(
@@jasonstewart50 Yea, everything is tough to get now. You can consider the RAV4 Hybrid too, although they are likely just as hard to find (but are less expensive). Either is a great choice. When it comes time to replace our Sorento, we'll consider an EV but I'm hoping the selection increases and prices come down.
Super review, very cleaver on changing the original tires for Michelin, I was wondering why you didn’t deal with the salesman to put the Michelin right away ? And what color have you choose ? I am planning for the limited black nightshade in a few month, and will do the same as you on tires, just be more careful during winter time.
Really enjoyed you both! BUT, you forgot about all the safety features on this car. As a senior, having a car tell me I can run into something from all directions is important! Loved the video!
We are purchasing a Venza as we speak. And yes - the frosted roof is very, very cool.
Very timely! Many thanks (:
Thanks for watching!
Hi guys great video I did get a 21 Limited Toyota Venza and I love it. The only thing you missed why is there not a lock in the glove compartment ???
I have the 2021 Venza LE and love it. The only change I’d make is to add a sunroof.
Gimmick! I agree with Zack - it would be the party trick that gets old quickly! Plus, not being able to open the roof?!
I just clicked the bell button! 😄 i am really loving the content from you all. This car is real nice like the rav4 but I don't like that the cargo space is less as it cost more.
But my dream car would be a corolla cross prime 🙌🏼.. at least hybrid is coming out this year
Thank you so glad you are enjoying the content! Looking forward to driving the Corolla Cross Hybrid.
I'm about to jump in line to get one of these for my wife. We wanted Lexus but this seems like a great way to snag the feel of a Lexus without breaking the bank
Am really happy to hear your now selling your review cars
Please I will love to buy it too
when does this comes out? what month?
That was a big reason for us too. It was almost impossible to find the used Lexus she wanted and new ones are just too expensive and no more V6. She is very happy with the Venza.
Is there a reduction in cabin heat when using StarGaze? Thanks!
You guys are hilarious! Thanks for the review....will definitely consider this in the future....love my tundra but gas is hella expensive.
Love that sunroof feature but it should definitely open as well and be functional in that sense as well
I would love if it opened, best of both worlds
Opening Pano roofs have been a problem across all manufacturers. Do a search and you will be shocked at the repair costs once out of warranty.
Does sunroof block intense sunlight to prevent sunburn while driving?
Excellent review as always! 🙌🏾
I feel like when I put it in sport mode it gives it a push and the vehicle feels way faster and it has much of a sportier feeling to it.
I do wish my panoramic sunroof open however, but I do love to stargaze feature and I keep an on all the time.
The Star Gaze is a gimmick, but it's a neat, and possibly good gimmick. If I were to look at the Venza I would get the LE. A salesman I talked to had a Venza hybrid and I asked what the difference(vs the hybrid Rav4 )was. And he said, quiter and less offroady(more forgiving ride on the road).
My advice is to consider the Le Venza, if you are looking at the xle or se Rav4 Hybrid.
Zack and Andrea give the most fun and informative reviews. Like Zack, I prefer zero glass above the heads and non perforated seats. Also like Zack, I struck it rich marrying my gal pal! 😉
I so wish I could buy one. Love your videos.
I love the roof! I like the light but I never open the sunroof. If it’s too bright I’d do the frosty version.
Thank you for doing a new review. Can you guys do a new review of the Stelvio but basic model? Thanks
Doesn’t always work that way. Press cars are never the base model. They always get the upper or top trims.
Great video and few good laughs. This is ok. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you very much, so glad you enjoyed it!
@@andreaspencer9813 You are an very welcome Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻
Is it a shade so the sun doesn't beat down on you? Important down south in the US
There’s volume controls on the steering wheel also 😎
You two are good fellows. Never had I thought that I would love another one auto review show, except the British Top gear. But the past beauty of the British top gear has gone.
I find it impressive. Definitely more so than a mesh screen that moves back and forth.
We love the moonroof!
Great review of the Venza and props for including other similar models for us to consider. If the Venza is "Lexus-lite" are the Hyundai models "Genesis-lite'? I'm looking right now to find a new SUV. No plug-in EVs. I live in N Florida and the charging infrastructure is pitiful as it is in most areas. I'll take a regenerative braking system and that Venza's superb gas mileage any day! Wow! With our increased gas prices higher milage is very appealing. However, it doesn't take over the substance of the vehicle. Any recommendations like the NX, RX, or loaded Venza?
I love your review style and having two opinions. Thank you from your very Southern neighbor!
Comparing this with the 2022 Tucson Limited Hybrid which is more powerful, has more goodies and is less expensive, how does the ride quality as well as seat comfort on trips compare? I'm waiting for both to arrive to test drive.
Hey guys, I am sure you have probably mentioned this in a hybrid video before but if not you should let people know about the strange sound that is made when reversing. My friends got a new Rav4 Hybrid and they thought something was wrong with the transmission. It should have been told to them by the dealership. I believe this was made a required safety feature in 2019 for silent EVS and hybrids. Thanks
It would be interesting if you do a video like this for the 2023 Corolla. I wonder if it will come with wireless CarPlay and Toyota safety sense 3.0 like the 2023 GR Corolla.
Hi Guys,
Great review all around.
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it!
@@andreaspencer9813 Keep up the great reviews going!
I agree Zac, I’d rather save on cost and have no sunroof, i rarely open mine
Is the Nightshade edition will be available in Canada?
Is the seating still like the Subaru Outback or did they turn it into a Rav4?
When will they bring a normal sunroof that can open up to the Venza?
Is it coming out this year ? Like in next month or 2 ?
In one of your pictures of the rear seat you didn’t have the seatback all the way reclined. Pull the top latch. It’s more comfortable.
I really like my 2022 Venza limited. But I’d like a Prime plug-in version.
My sister lives in Vancouver and she brought the hyundai tucson phev and because I have a contact with hyundai canada office I got her a generous rebate greetings from southern Ontario
My wife and I looked at the Venza. I am 6'3", my wife is a very slim 5'. One thing we really liked about the Venza was that both of us, despite our height desparaties, were able to comfortably drive the vehicle with the correct seating adjustments. We were both leaning toward purchasing the Venza despite the minuses like less space over the RAV4 and that funky HVAC/infotainment setup using no physical buttons. But, we discovered the 2022 RAV4 Hybrid Limited now has dual power seats, that was enough to change our minds enough to put an order for the RAV4. I still don't understand why Toyota didn't improve the Venza to give it more interior volume in the back and keep the real buttons. We did drive a 2022 Limited Venza with an advanced technology package at a local dealership. Here in the United States that package adds a Heads Up Display into the $42,500 USD MSRP. Too rich for my wallet, but worth it if you want to have a BMW level technological sophistication with a Toyota Reliability.
How is the Rav4 compared to the Venza for front leg room for you? I'm 6'2" tall but longer legs.
@@CalgaryGuy71 The RAV4 has the same amount of front legroom as the Venza. For me, I don't need to have the front seat all the way back, in order to sit comfortably in the driver's or passenger seat.
Does the hybrid Venza have the same cablegate issue in Quebec like hybrid RAV4?
In Canada the Star Gaze ‘Sun-blocking’ Sunroof is gimmick. In Arizona it’s a must-have.
Not sure about the sunroof, if it's super bright outside and you have a headache and want it darker what do you do, go get blackout curtains?
Great review and very timely and relevant for us currently. We are in the US and looking at the Venza XLE and Kia Sportage SX Prestige hybrid. Both come in around $38.5 US. We get more with the Kia but still a bit torn. We test drove a Venza yesterday but still have not been able to find a Kia hybrid test vehicle in our area to compare.
Do you guys have an opinion on the drive quality (ans overall quality) of both vehicles? I suspect the Venza will hold its value better which is one of the main reasons we are considering it. Any opinions on how the new Sportage will fare in reliability and depreciation areas? Any insight is very appreciated.
I'm in the same boat you were. Which one did you like better and end up with? Ty
Exactly on point. The Pano roof that doesn't open was a big turn off for us. Plus, I wished they would've throw in some accent lighting like other competitors did.
Yes the sunroof impresses me. Can’t remember the last time i saw that “feature” in a sunroof. If every car had that it would be gimmicky.
Agreed, it’s nice that it filters direct sunlight with the ease of a button rather than having to manually pull back the sunroof cover. This option makes it instant. Direct sunlight or filtered light. 👌🏽
Will you do one for the 2023 rav 4.
I have a ‘24 Venza Limited and it’s a great car. Very comfortable, excellent interior, great JBL sound system, terrific fuel economy, all the bells and whistles, built in Japan, etc. The only minor criticism I have of it is that, while it is fairly quiet for the most part, the road noise can get pretty elevated on poorly paved highways. I think it has more to do with the Bridgestone Ecopia tires that came with mine. Those tires are designed to maximize fuel economy, but sacrifice quietness as a compromise. I’ve heard when owners change to higher quality tires, the road noise is much improved. Overall, though, I love it!
Your video has great information, just wanted to let you know that on large screens the quality is grainy and blurry
I had leased a 2021 Venza. The placement of the wireless charger would be fine if the start button was in another spot.
Add more “cubby” space. It also feels small. At first I was fine with it but looking back, but it reminded me of the 2017 Rav.
I am now leasing a 2022 Rav XSE Hybrid. Happier
Interesting that’s the two that I am debating pros and cons?
Have you heard from Toyota Canada that we will get the upgrades for 2023? The dealerships in Ontario haven't confirmed anything yet. Thanks.
A quiet vehicle is a critical buying decision. And yes Andria, we have friends with a Hyundai and it is definitely quieter and quite luxurious.
I can't wait until prices come back down. Still loving my 2011 Venza but would love to upgrade to a new hybrid.
The Stargaze is a nice gimmick. Even in winter I occasionally open the skyroof. I kept going back to the venza to compare when on a Rav4 hybrid waiting list. The inability to open this roof immediately stopped me.
I own a 2021 Venza, have to say the MPG is outstanding. I've been averaging 48 MPG during the warm weather. Some button placement is awkward, especially on most used items. Disagree about the location of the power button, which is easily visible. Not a fan of the piano black head unit, always looks dust covered. Not a sporty car but it sure is silky smooth to drive.
I been trying to find a XLE in Costal Grey without the premium audio in the US, and I have given up.
I like the upgrade on the interior but miss the exterior look of the older versions😢
does the 2023 have the fog lights now
My favorite RAV4 prime .. can't wait to get one 😂
Do all LImiteds come as XLEs?
The 2022 Lexus nx 350h gets going very well when entering the highway
Is the venza affected by cable gate?
Great review as usual. Does that opaque function on the moonroof instantly deal with sun glare? If yes, it's not a gimmick.
It does. When I bought my Venza last August, I mostly chose the Limited trim as they had it on the lot (and vehicles were getting hard to get), so I just got that trim. Like Zack, I was never a fan of sunroofs/moonroofs. I've had them on previous vehicles but never used them. The bright sun/glare coming in when the shade was open was annoying and the wind noise (and buffeting) when open was deafening. The Venza does have a shade you can close, but I always leave it open. It helps brighten the cabin, but doesn't suffer from the glare that a regular glass panel would. The panel is "frosted" by default, so if you "turn it on", it makes it more transparent (to see through it, but there is still a bit of frost to it). To answer Andrea's question, it is a bit of a gimmick per se, but it's honestly one of my favourite features of the vehicle, and it's not one I even cared about when I bought it.
I have the 2021 limited Venza with the stargaze moonroof and I love it to be honest I’m not a fan of open sunroofs and I love how I can just push a button and filter the sound like that comes in I also leave mines open all the time. I love my car and I tell people all the time that I love my car. I can definitely see getting this car and upgrading when some of the features change my biggest complaint is that it doesn’t have wireless Apple CarPlay which I have experience in a rental car and it was awesome I also think that the infotainment system needs to be updated and if the 2023 does that then the car would be perfect for someone like me who does not have young children. The icing on the cake would be if they put this out as a plug-in with all of the same features that I mentioned above.
The stargaze is amazing, i can keep it open and frosted even if the sun is really bright. If it was a normal sunroof I would have to close it fully. It makes the car seem so much roomy
I am very curious if the Venza will have the same battery harness corrosion that Rav4 hybrids are experiencing in rust belt states and Canada.
Most likely because they use the same platform and battery components.
toyotas for life either im this venza
sequoia
or all the models
I like the Toyota Venza a lot! How much do Toyota Venzas cost?
love the design of the current venza, the last generation felt bloated and dull, I like they're getting the updated infotainment system, but not happy that it doesn't have the volume knob
It does on the steering wheel. I never reach for the middle when it's right at my fingertips
Loved sun roofs over years easier on eyes most days without 🤓 I know sucks getting older with some stuff. Nice car😎🚗💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦
Wondering why this vehicle never seems to be in comparison reviews?
How would this be classified?
Compact SUV?
You could use a noise detection app to test how loud each car is.
thanks
I would love a moonroof that opens.
I’ve done in-depth comparisons: Feature for feature; dollar for dollar; interior size and comfort; warranty and maintenance, etc. I can’t figure out why the media doesn’t compare the Venza to the Kia Sportage Hybrid and Hyundai Tucson Hybrid rather than mid-size SUVs. Why spend more for a Venza only to get less of a car in most every regard than the Sportage or Tucson.
Does anyone have a rebuttal???
Tell me, is there a curtain that will close the panorama?
Same platform as a RAV4, so why is the rear load height higher than the RAV4? TSS 2.5 on the 2023. Is that worth waiting for?
Any news/rumors on the 2023 Honda CR-V hybrid
Nothing yet, Honda is keeping it pretty quiet, but the new model is arriving this summer.
Is there a hitch for us bike riders
If you want a volume knob, only because you don't like a capacitive screen... use the steering wheel controls
Mercedes-Benz SL 2017 had the same sunroof they call it "magic sky glass roof"
TSS 2.0 when it launched new in 2021 when other Toyota vehicles started offering TSS 2.5+ is a very questionable move by Toyota. Star Gaze roof is a gimmick. No tow rating and realistic hitch even just for bikes is odd. Not entirely sure Toyota has completely addressed the gas tank issue either. A very sharp looking and desirable vehicle marred by a few glaring issues. If the Venza can survive, probably won’t give it another look until it receives a redesign.
I love Andreas leather!
I'm living in Mn. Do i have to warm up my Venza Hybrid 2022 car in the winter?
Warming a car is bad for it, always start your car and drive away slowly until it warms up. Best thing for the car...
love our Venza Limited very quiet great gas mileage, so much that we traded our 22 for a 24 model. and btw. love the stargaze great bang for your buck.
When does the 2023 Model hits the market?
Bought our 21’ limited with the optional fancy pano glass. My wife has put 31k miles between her work commute and family vacation miles. She averages 47mpg. Cabin is well executed and very comfortable. A lot of soft touch leather. Not having “hard buttons” has not been an issue. Everything is very responsive and user friendly. Only complaint which is the pano glass. A burnt black mark appeared with a frosted circular outer layer. Long story short, this is an electrical short within the glass which enables the frost and regular toggling. It’s an 8k repair which we were able to get done under warranty. Extended warranty will not warrant this so read the fine print. We paid 51k OTD with the extended platinum warranty. Southern California. 1k markup
Im not sure about fixed pano roof with scorching Southern California summer sun. Can I get solid roof instead?
@@midlifemom5829 sure can, pano is an option on the limited only but you have option to get solid.
good car
Have you guys had a chance to drive a 2023 RAV4 hybrid?
We recently reviewed the 2022 model, the 2023 is not available yet.
What’s the difference in 2022 vs 2023? This review looks like the one for 2022 model…2023 isn’t even at the dealership yet so I’m confused
Nice watches!
Hallo guys, Happy New year to you! Well I’m Mr Diop and I seriously several questions to ask to you ! Is there any chance to contact you in different platforms then UA-cam please!
