- In this Microsoft Excel video tutorial, I explain how to rename multiple files at once within a folder. The Excel template for this can be downloaded here: www.bluepecantraining.com/wp-...
The template automatically creates the text you need to paste into the command prompt. All you have to do is paste in the old filenames and provide the new filenames.

Thank you so much!! All the files i was trying to renamke had an $ in their name, and i wanted to remove it, but any kind of multiple renaming with code was getting wrong because they are folders. Your method was the only one that worked just fine! I would give you 100 likes if i could, but i cant just press it once

Takes me back to my early PC days....DOS 3.1 and a little later, Windows 3.12. Those were the days of doing command prompt stuff (even the date/time stamp on files), and when Norton really was a great Utilities package! And don't forget all of the PC Mag utilities!
it's works like a magic.. Thank you so much

Great video, however been looking for a way to replace " _ with a space " in a list of 15,000 PDF files. Some are duplicates so in that case I need it to make the duplicate file place a "RE: 1 etc after file name " after any duplicates so I can verify it is truly a duplicate. Be nice if it could stop at each file that has replaced the _ with a space and ask if it should replace file or add the 1 to the end of the file name. Not sure if I am overthinking things but can't seem to find a solution in my own head or on here. Thanks Great Excel videos have learned a lot, you have a talent of explaining things so clearly even a bone head like me can follow along. Tony
Thanks
Many thanks
thanks alot.. my half day work reduced.
Can this work if the files are attached to a folder in teams?
is there a way how to rename folders to dates? it keeps changing my folders to numbers like this 45313 instead of date
Do I need to leave the “.xlsx” or will it re add them once the command runs with the correct file type? Or do I even need the “.xlsx” in the file name, I’m find with removing them if so. Thank you in advance!
how do extend ren?
you're a goat
😎
Can I double like this?
We can also get the files names by Select all files in a folder and then right click and copy as path
Hello. I hawe an issue. I receive an error when I try to renamd files that contain ș ț î ă â (romanian characters) and. Do you hawe a solution for this?
when I type cmd in the bar, nothing shows up....
For me, the first step, I know this is not what I am looking for, This ONLY works if the filename is in English and not Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean etc. I have lot of those anime so it wiil not work.
This not worked for me
Follow exactly the instructions in the video and it will work. Download the template too.
