How Good Was Daniel Bryan's Planet's Champion Run? (2018-2019)

- A look back at when Daniel Bryan became the angriest environmentalist on the face of the planet. Daniel Bryan's Planet's Champion run was a stroke of pure genius where he turned heel and just hit on all aspects of his performance.

planets champ or yes movement?
I say that the Yes Movement is much more challenging but best as it is, but as far as his heel run goes, I can understand that a character change is needed and all but his reign is a tad bit, just like what Daniel Bryan/Bryan Danielson said it himself, *"Fickle"*
Both
Both fasho
Storytelling, moments and in Ring excellence-The Yes Movement(still a proud member to this day)
Character Work and Promos-The Planets champion
Yes moment because it's an underdog story, planet champion because it's an actual title reign.
His underdog run is GOATED but his heel run is what gave birth to Kofimania. What sort of ruins it is that DB moved on and WWE didn’t do anything valuable with Kofi after.
Bryan made him look like a champ
Kofi defended the title multiple times against top guys. He had great matches too with everyone. Unless you're talking about what happened to Kofi _after_ he lost the title on free TV to Brock.
Bryan sucks
"Do you wanna talk about how you think the earth is flat?" Is one of my favorite wrestling moments ever. I laughed about that moment for weeks after.
“He’s a flat earther” 😂😂
It's incredible to think about Daniel Bryan's ability to continually renew himself. In 2018, after his return, his character seemed to be in a stalemate and he managed to change, creating one of the best characters of the late 2010s. A three-dimensional villain, who, like CM Punk straight edge, sacrificed himself by preaching the right values on a higher level believing that one is better than others. A capacity for transformation on Daniel's part that few in the business have, I'm thinking of Chris Jericho or the Undertaker, capable of renewing themselves and thus remaining on the crest of the wave for a long time.
His heel run paved the way for his BCC character in AEW. Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan is a Top 10 Wrestler for how pure his wrestling is. He can have a banger with anyone.
This run really solidified his second stint with WWE post comeback.
He was doing some of the best work of his career.
And how can we forget the epic build to WrestleMania 35 where he became the arch nemesis to Kofi like how the authority was to him back in 2014. Kofimania wouldn't be as epic as it was if Daniel didn't do his part. One of the best championship reigns of the last decade 🔥
Oh man, I remember this run very fondly. Bryan as a heel was such an unexpected gem. All of his matches were spectacular and his promos towards the fans and showing the truth of wrestling fans were just amazing😅. Also, his custom championship was so disgusting, it truly added to his heelish persona, and I love that. Lastly, Bryan putting over Kofi was easily one of the best decisions he’s ever made, and this definitely made for one of the best storylines ever. So while this was short, Bryan as a heel was just magnificent😁👍.
Bryan, in general, is magnificent.
He had a fantastic people's champion run as a face culminating in the birth of an organic beloved babyface and putting on incredible matches.
And then, almost as if to prove his detractors wrong on his return from career-threatening mounting injuries, he proceeded to go on a stellar heel run where he managed to make himself hated *and* did it almost entirely with his promo skills...something people always said he lacked as a complete wrestler. And set up the perfect scenario for a beautiful role reversal to put over clean another beloved fixture of the company.
And now he's absolutely tearing it up in AEW in his final run, all that after putting up some actual bangers on his way out vs Roman (and Edge in that triple threat match at Mania) and even giving the Fiend his best match of that run of Bray's which was also the one good strap match in WWE history to boot (edit: between that and Umaga vs Cena which was admittedly a surprise banger as well). The man deserves a spot on the Mt. Rushmore of wrestling at this point, he's honestly just too damn good.
Imo, the championship run of the planets champion was better than the championship run of the yes movement, but the yes movement itself is one of the greatest wrestling storylines ever
This run was an absolute gem. One of my favorite segments was when Bryan was ranting about AJ Styles backstage and calling the fans "impotent! Change it" while walking down to the ring.
God, I love that version of the title. Probably one of my favorite designs for a champion ever
“One swift kick to the Georgia bulldogs” hell yeah 😂
Bryan's heel run was fun to revisit back, I would say he was very entertaining.
Another golden character from the SmackDownLive era.
it really was
Video Idea: How Bad was Shane McMahon (2018-2019)
How good was shane mcmahon (2016-2017).
@@Charles-qt2dy he was awful he won the World Cup, Boring rivalry with Roman Reigns, and worst of all he was the GM of Smackdown
I'll always remember seeing D.B. at a house show in I believe it was 2019 in Bournemouth, England. He was the tag champion at that point.
He came out with Rowan, stood on the turnbuckle and just stayed there with his hands in the air... He held it for about a minute, his music ended, the music restarted, and he was still just there...
I thought that was hilarious.
Bryan's promos as a heel was just spectacular, He knew how to piss people off.
This was Bryan’s Hollywood Rock moment. As a face both realized they were getting stale, both went on a hiatus, and then both came back and completely reinvented their characters as heels.
from AJ's more than a year run to Daniel's Planet champion run is one of the best times of the modern era of WWE
AJ's run got stale at parts, the Nakamura stuff wasnt the greatest.
@@SuperkickStudios still a better run compared to those before him & especially during those times where lesnar & roman are going for the universal title on RAW
@@richard6200true plus it didn’t take him long to get in the main event scene
While I haven't watched the entire video, I already know that it will be as great as always. Thanks for another amazing video. You are awesome as is your content.
One love ❤️
Daniel Bryan heel run in 2019 was something else he was calling himself the plant champion saying some words i never heard just insane men i wish he stayed in wwe little longer
I honestly loved the wooden wwe title during this run. heel Bryan champion run was really fun, imo, kofimania was just as fun as well
His belt was apparently made of Marijuana
I enjoyed this run way more than the baby face run. Great video!
The run was pretty short but the run itself was wonderful.
at first I wasn't really into it because I was so used to him being the top underdog babyface but when time flyed by, his heel run was starting to grow onto me.. Heel Daniel Bryan 2018 - 19 was GOLD!!!!!!! I would've said the same thing with Heel Dean Ambrose around that time but they did him dirty as a heel
I love this character promos because the energy he put is amazing
Quality video
Enjoyed this run although it was short it was fantastic
When I got the notification I immediately clicked on it😉
Hey Superkick Studios, I know you’re working hard, but a hot takes video sounds fun.
appreciate the suggestion, it's not really my thing... feel like everyone does that.
I think Daniel Bryan’s run was perfect one of the best heel turns his attitude his matches his promos was perfect I think the run was great💯
gotta agree loved his run.
Excellent. Love The New Daniel Bryan.
This was my favorite version of Daniel Bryan/ Bryan Danielson ever
Shocky ducky quack quack is just how I'll describe the planets champ
This guy is pure gold, an absolute legend
Bryan Danielson Gave Us A Run That We Will Never Forget. Bryan Danielson is the best wrestler of all time. (In My Opinion)🤙🏿💯🐉
Yes movement was better in a storytelling way but this heel turn was 🔥
Brock vs Bryan at Survivor series was a classic, Easily my top 3 favourite bryan match.
Bryan's promos during this run were legendary. My favorite moment was "They're reciting something stupid from 20 years ago because they can't help themselves" during the what chants.
I was there the night he won the title from AJ. Also it was my 17th birthday. Best night ever.
Kofi also finally broke wwes black ceiling.
I really loved this run
Daniel Bryan was on fire man
w belt, run and character
This was the perfect championship run, because EVERYONE benefitted (aside from an untimely Mustafa Ali injury). Styles lost the title dirty and kept losing dirty, Bryan was a great heel who told the truth and had the right gimmick for him, and Kofi had his underdog story that culminated in a brilliant match for the championship at Wrestlemania 35.
His Heel run was phenomenal!
My favorite Daniel Bryan
Best version of him
6:48 umm...a thing of BEAUTY what else?!
You must bring up the Saudi Arabia drama when talking about Brock was Brian. Brian stood out as one of the wrestlers who refused to go because of the Koshogi political murder and people expected Brock to murder him and his character because of his disobedience and controversy with a country the WWE was building a business relationship with. While Brock was dominating Bryan in the beginning, many believed they were witnessing a true burial, which turned the low blow and referee spot to a true shoot surprise. It’s one of my favorite matches of the era.
That's one of the best versions of Daniel Bryan. Never would I thought that a Vegan character would have been so entertaining. KofiMania was amazing thanks to Bryan especially. This guy is just unbelievably good, it's not even funny.
I always thought his heel vegan run was similar to CM Punk first heel run as a straight edge messiah
I’d argue this is the best period of his career
Planet's champ D bry has the same energy as straight edge punk... especially before the society when he was fewding with jeff hardy
lowkey haha
One hit wonder god I love Daniel
This is a bold statement but honestly this might be peak Danielson he was perfect in this role
This was a great run it was absolutely hilarious he was just roasting everyone 😂
KofiMania was supposed to be AliMania
Who was DB’s original opponent for mania before kofi mania took over
2:10 I still think that it's a shame that we got robbed of Mahal vs. Lesnar.
Just think about that, Mahal as champion couldn't have been used as jobber there but actually he HAD TO BE displayed in a serious manner. Man I would die for this match as it would make me crack up sooooo much.
damn i see.
All Bryan ever did after his wrestlemania moment was put over other talents. Same year he put over new day on a tag teams championship match. And now he’s putting over people in AEW. The most selfless wrestler.
Something makes me wonder if Bryan was the one to suggest Kofi’s push. After all about half a decade ago he did the same against the Authority.
When is the Gunther video coming out?
Great Great Great run
Can we stop hating on the hemp title please, i think it looks great
Please do the story of LA Knight
We need Daniel Bryan come back as that heel team him with someone ideally bring Alex Riley back both Miz former rookies target the Miz mainly be tag team champions in both brands and even TNA if they merge or invade and every time celebrities make rare have them insulting them like Jericho did
This was so ridiculous and looped back to being hilarious
This was better than the Yes Movement.
Damn bro violated KO🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
In the words of the Miz, it was AWESOME..and i think that they pulled the plug on it way too early
He is the best
Fun fact: Kofimania was supposed to happen in 2009 but Orton pushed his push to a decade.
Remember CJ Parker in NXT? Aka Juice Robinson even he couldn’t pull off this incredibly hard gimmick DB with ease tho
yeah I remember the NXT run, DB had it on lock
The best part of that title reign was how it ended. Kofi deserved it (and didn't deserve to be squashed by Lesnar.)
We truly need to recognize that this dude was a bad guy for wanting to save the planet🤣🤣 Not even in an evil way, it was him using facts! Bryan Danielson/ Daniel Bryan is an All Timer IMO
Bryan with beard and long hair as a heel works
Short answer YES. everytime he was a heel. The NO!, being an abusive boyfriend to AJ Lee, Planet's Champion (aka Hyperbaric chamber Bryan), his initial heel run with AEW. For what seems like a real nice guy behind the scenes he sure does play the douchebag well.
He was savage
I actually liked that wwe title design. Better than blue and red toys😂
I remember hearing at the time that Daniel Bryan was supposed to beat Kofi Kingston, and Bryan had to convince Vince to change the finish.
Vince mcmahon was about to let Daniel Bryan beat Kofi and Daniel bryant had Vince mcmahon change the finish if that is true Vince is a douchebag for that like fr
They really baited us into thinking aj was gonna fight brock again dat shii pissed me tf off when bryan won especially seeing how much of a banger aj vs brock was the year prior😂😂😂
Danielson vs Lesnar was great, but I really wanted to see them run it back and do Styles vs Lesnar 2. Maybe toward the tail end of their runs Brock might put him over
As someone who couldn't stand Yes movement Bryan, I prefer the heel run way more. Everyone remembers the chase with Bryan in 2013/14, but they don't remember the reign itself, which ended up being cut short anyway.
Also, he's way better as an annoying & despised heel.
1st and YES, Iloved the Planets Champion
It should've lasted longer, but I believe the gimmick was scrapped because he was getting it over, which would pit him back on top . They only let him wrestle again because he was going to sign with AEW , he resigned they gave him this lil run and then he was just existing until his deal ran out and he wouldn't resign .
How do you feel about NXT now?
I honestly don't think it was that good. Besides the promos and PPV matches san Royal Rumble and Fastlane because I forgot he faced AJ Styles and Kevin Owens, nothing it really memorable about it. Even though I remember him having an alliance with Erick Rowan I forgot they were tag team champions. His Planet Champion gimmick was sidelined in favor of Kofimania which happened because Mustafa Ali was injured. It would have been better if he kept the gimmick going after WrestleMania when feuding with The Fiend instead of dropping it without mention.
Deserve it
Well he wasn't wrong and I like the wood belt
His heel run was welcoming as the YES Movement gimmick was toxic & stale.
She like the embid or Tim Duncan of women wrestling 😂 started soo late but was really a success
We’re not jumping on the CM PUNK video train SKS?😭
I’ll make a vid eventually, everyone’s doing like the same 3 vids right now (hot takes, CM Punk, LA Knight)
@@SuperkickStudios goated wrestling YT channel 🤌🏾
It was hilarious
Easily his best reign
Daniel bryans planet champion belt is Rob van dams favorite belt😂
it was ok.. imo
AJ Styles is a flat earther 😔😭💀
IMPOTENT! CHANGE IT!
How bad was the big dog
Bryan's Planet Champion run was waaaay Betteeeeer than Reigns boring current tribal chief run any day of the week 💯
