I want to thank you for the wonderful and entertaining videos that you have posted about living in Michigan. You were very helpful and instrumental while I was in the housing market.
It was through your videos (and one other significant persons videos) that I was able to understand some important aspects about the home buying process. The 2021 housing market was very tough and tougher for a V.A. buyer. Your videos helped me to understand how to navigate in that difficult market. One of the most important things that I learned in your videos is how Proposition A works.
I was able to ensure that my estimated escrow was closer to what the uncapped property taxes would be and avoid having a significant house note increase from underestimated property taxes in my closing disclosure. I think that your videos provide a wonderful and entertaining public service to prospective homebuyers.

Appreciate your content. I've been dreaming of moving back to Michigan for most of my life (left when I was 5) but now i can finally relocate as a remote worker! This is incredibly helpful. Need to be somewhat near airport as I travel a lot for work so my family in Shelby Township is a bit too far. Thanks again!! Can't wait to start actually looking at homes!

I left Oak Park, Michigan in 1975 when I enlisted in the Air Force. Aldi, Whole Food and Kroger I have been to in other states. I never heard of Busch's Super Market. When were they established? I have fond memories for Sanders for their cakes and ice cream, A & P, Great Scott, Wrigley's, Chatham, Farmer Jacks & Packard's Supermarkets. I lived in Oak Park from 1955 to 1975.

Livonia lost public bus service and gained a permanent local transit tax. Next August it is time to vote NO to larger freeways and bus service reduction. A vote of NO only means SMART does not receive a local tax increase. Cuts to SMART are illegal. Federal Law supersedes the Michigan State Legislature. For more information and proof of this, please reply.

Out of the cities here on this list Huntington Woods is the best. Very easy to navigate, houses there are good, and it’s very quiet and peaceful.
Royal Oak has good nightlife, however it kinda took a hit lately. I dunno if you heard, but the Main Art Theater closed down a couple months ago. Used to go there all the time for midnight screenings of popular old films and cult movie screenings. A shame. It was my favorite place in all of Royal Oak.

Many years ago, early 1990’s, my boyfriend and I decided after 3 years of dating, we’d move in together. He lived in a small bungalow close to the high school. It was a rental, and he had 3 roommates. He told them after the first of the year, I was moving in, which gave them plenty of time to look elsewhere to live if they chose to. Even though the rent was extremely low, they decided that 4 guys in the house was too much, and they both moved. During the next 11 years, we tried many times to buy the house from the owner. She wasn’t interested. In those 11 years, our rent was increased 3 times. From 300. Per month, to $550. We really wanted to own, but she was looking at the property as an investment and wanted to sit on it.
My boyfriend lost his job in January of 2004. He was unemployed for 12 months. He was offered an attractive position, but it was 800 miles away. Even though we dreamt of living in a large, vibrant city, we loved Detroit. My folks lived a few blocks away, and his parents lived in Holly. The offer was too good. He accepted, I gave notice at my job, and we started packing. His new employer flew us to Atlanta to house hunt, and attend the corporate Christmas party to meet the owner and the rest of the upper executive staff. It was a beautiful evening in one of the hotels downtown. As we sat at a table looking out at what was to be our new home, we admitted we made the right choice. I was flattered when the Vice President of the company, and his wife asked to sit with me and give me pointers on the neighborhoods, and where to shop. We looked at perhaps 8 houses that weekend, and chose a newly built home to rent. It was a shock at first when we saw it would be double what we were paying in Ferndale.
When we returned, we started packing as quickly as we could. It’s crazy what you accumulate in 11 years. Our parents and friends threw us a going away party, and a few days later we drove in 2 cars, one brand new, to Georgia.
It’s been wonderful to live here with all it has to offer. After a few years, we got married, and bought our first house. At first we were quite homesick, but we returned about twice a year for the holidays, and special birthdays.
If we had to do it all over again, we probably would move, but one thing we still feel is that Detroit IS a great place to live. We still miss Ferndale and our little house. Even though we bought a beautiful home with a creek running through the back yard, we’d move back to Ferndale if we could.
