- Turkey hunters never forget their shotgun or bow, comfy seat, calls, or other common turkey hunting gear. What we do forget is smaller items that can make a day in the turkey woods more comfortable and successful. These are our top five items that we feel you should consider adding to your turkey hunting vest this spring.
Opening day was today and man oh man it was crazy. I’ve never heard hens sound off the way they did. Thanks for the tips and Good luck to anyone this year!
Heck yea! Let us know if you get one.
I’m getting ready for some turkey hunting maybe this weekend God bless
Best of luck to you! Let us know if you have any luck.
@@TheBucketBoysIA no such thing as luck
Brother. Will do though
@@Coram_D30 have you never heard the saying I rather be lucky than good
@@Wertyingf luck doesn’t exist
pruners were a great idea
Use em more than I realize!
I like the way you think!
The wipes and the snips for SURE ‼️😂😂😂
You don’t want to have to lose a sleeve out there!
Thanks for the tips I love turkey hunting but not very experienced so thank you for the tips I also live in Iowa hopefully get one this year
Hopefully they help ya out. Good luck this year and let me know if ya get one.
Flextone decoys are slick because the stake is attached
Just got one this year!
Got one
First aide kit over band aids, a poncho, large garbage bags for crossing creeks deeper than your boots ! The pruners I can clip small limbs for the stakes. The shells are always there !
I like the poncho idea. Hate getting wet! Garbage bag idea is pretty clever too!
@@TheBucketBoysIA neither take up any room. I have a small first aide kit. A spur cut me long and deep about 25 years ago and started carrying a kit. It has gel peroxide and neosporin And different size band aides it has tweezers to get briars or thorns. I need that stuff that day. It took 5 stitches. Dr sai I probably saved getting a bad infection it was three days before I could get to him. I was camping ! I cleaned it with the peroxide then poured vodka on it to sterilize it filled it with neosporin and put 4 band aids on it til I got home. I keep one in my truck in my diddy bag I take in the deer woods and one in my turkey vest I use the garbage bags a good bit and that poncho at least z3-4 time a year.
@@MarkSmith-qk2rl Good thing everything worked out for you. Getting spurred is not fun. Can only imagine not being able to get good medical attention for it!
That pretty much covers it for me🔥 great video
Thank you thought we could do something a little different.
I also carry a few extra rubber bands in case the ones securing my box call from making noise break.
Excellent list
Appreciate that!
Brand new hunter.. just went Turkey hunting in PA.. called in a beautiful gobbler and fudged my shot. 16yd bird. Shot a bit high left. Second shot jammed. Pump action mossberg 500 12ga. Pattern was very tight even at 20-25yds during my practice shots. I guess it was too much choke. Or i have to pick a better round that opens up a bit earlier. Not sure. Still learning. My shoulder is sore though. 13 rounds of that XR winchester turkey load was big recoil
I just ordered a mossberg semi auto in 20ga turkey gun. And purchased a truglo red dot. Ill be ready for fall
@@TurkeyDart Turkey loads will do a number on ya! Turkey hunting is such a learning experience. It’s the failed attempts that you learn the most from. Just gotta keep at it and you’ll find success. Welcome to the addiction!
I donno man I think that list is a little soft and thats some extra bulk when your running trekking through the woods. Personally I use my pocket knife for trimming limbs, good leaves when nature calls (make sure they are growing from a tree branch and not a vine), a good stick is a good decoy stake, band aids are for weiners, extra shells and bug sprays always a good call though. But hey, what works for me might not work for everybody. Good list buddy🤙
Guess I’m a weiner! 🤣 But seriously, I’ll take anyone’s input on some of the overlooked items they use chasing turkeys. It all fits in my turkey vest and is lightweight, so it’s gonna be how I keep rolling. Good luck with the remainder of the hunting season!
Turkey call
I actually want to lighten the load not add to it. Vest is a good idea because my camo winter coat is too hot this time of year. I take 6 shells, bottle of water, my phone, turkey call, decoy, camo folding chair and my heavy Browning Auto 5. My snoring in my chair tends to bring in the turkeys. 🤣
Longbeard XRs 🔥🦃
Heck yeah! Watched them drop a lot of birds.
The dude wipes would come in clutch
Could definitely save the day!
I’m limited out in Mississippi and headed to Wyoming Saturday
Nice work. Best of luck in Wyoming!
You probably want to carry a water proof striker like carbon or acrylic. You can make your wooden striker waterproof by adding a piece of carbon arrow shaft to the tip. I made my own by doing this.
Good idea! Rain puts a damper on slate calls. I like the arrow idea.
Archery 😊
I don't bother with shotgun shells because I use a crossbow. 😁🏹
If you are in the south: Thermacell
That’s a good one!
You forget that might as well go home
Hell yeah long bread fours the only way to go
They definitely knock ‘em down!
@@TheBucketBoysIA killed one last year at 65 with em
@@lukeyates3134 It’s crazy what the new turkey loads will do. Had to be in your lap to kill them when I first started turkey hunting.
@@TheBucketBoysIA i used to only shoot remminton nitro turkey
Shells..shells..and more shells...and a joint
🤣
1 shell and u can't hunt under the influence lmao
It’s not illegal to hunt under the influence that I know of lol frowned upon yes illegal I don’t believe
5. Use dirt
4. Use leaves
3. Use sticks
2. Use your knife
1. Don't miss
100% agree
I just bring a gun with 3 shells and a backpack with 2 decoys extra stakes and some snacks,Extra gloves, Extra mask and calls
Get some of that Gold Bond!😅
check your regs for pruners because on public in michigan you can’t use them
Good point! Most public you can’t.
Turkey sling,,,,if you get lucky 😁. Calls 🤔🤔 BTW I was laughing coz I forgot my decoys ....left them on the ground by my truck 🤯🤯
Oh no! Did you have any success without the decoys?
Nope...had a hen come 5 yards away and she called and left. Then a gobbler called out and I brought him to about 80 yards....he didn't see anything and walked away.😔
@@fredsalay720 Dang. Next time!
Everything was good but BANDAIDS🧐🤨
Hunters are tough and I’m a kid. Not bragging or commanding you to not have them I respect what you have in your vest😉
I’ll respect your opinion!
Thermocell ✅
How are those long beard Xr’s i shot a bird at 60 yds with em, let me know what you think of um👍
Big fan! Have been shooting them since they came out and for the price, I don’t think there’s a better shell. Haven’t killed a bird out that far with them, but every bird I’ve shot with them falls in their tracks.
@@TheBucketBoysIA heck yeah man, have a great rest of your season 👍
I don't even have a vest I just go out with my shotgun in hand decoy strapped on my back and mouth call in my pocket
All it takes most times, but I’m too soft to sit right on the ground! 🤣
What about calls. Head net. Gloves.
Those are for sure all must haves. We tried coming up with gear you might not think of for this list.
#1 Extra shells #2 Turkey tote
Can’t say I’ve ever used a turkey tote. Usually just throw the bird over my shoulder. So you’d recommend one?
@@TheBucketBoysIA If you plan to pack one more than a couple hundred yards I definitely would. Hunting public land or large properties where you end up walking a mile+ it is an essential imo
@@usernamehere6061 Have to look into getting one!
Wb calls
U missed duck tape and buckshot in case u run into a bear or sum
Don’t have bears where we hunt, but those would be good in bear country
@@TheBucketBoysIA yea we dont have much eather I was just givin suggestions lol
How many shells do ya need? You can only shoot one bird lol
Usually only “need” one shell but things happen and people miss even us so extra shells are a must!
@@TheBucketBoysIA I got ya brother, I was jk . Happy hunting!
I learned last year to always have toilet paper in your vest
Oh no. Feel your pain. You gotta be ready for the worst! TP is a life saver.
A froze bottle
Of water
Insulated, a snake bite kit , protein bars
You might want to add an extra face mask to
Coffee lolol beef yurky
Gotta have the snacks!
Bug spray!!!!
