      Maybe, but half the fun is nerding out on the equipment. I had fun just learning to use the old DSLR I borrowed from my sister. I took my first photos last night and I think I can already tell where this is going lol

    • @derekderek2570
      @derekderek2570 3 роки тому +9

      It's true, I really fell in love with the hobby after a B&E of my neighbors house. Their DSLR was sitting on the kitchen table. We nabbed it along with a bunch of jewelry and as we ran from the cops to hide in the dark, unlit, park I remember accidently pointing the camera at what I now know as Orion, and capturing a faint Nebula that looked like a rose bud. I was hooked. From there I hit all the local astrophotography stores building up my Astrophotography empire until one day I was caught (never should have started Astro.Crimimal on instagram). Now, I teach Astronomy as a Senior Professor at my state prison. It's funny how life works out sometimes.

    One thing with Stellina, you drag it out by itself and it's working. No dragging the mount out then the scope, collimating it, balancing it, focusing, polar aligning, finding the target, framing it, working out optimal exposures and gain/iso through tests, setting up the guiding... it takes ages, and by then 50% of the time a "clear night" turns cloudy!

    Stellina is nice and practical but too expensive. No one with experience would spend that money in this machine instead of building they own rig. And I don't think newbies would spend almost £4000 for just to start a new hobby, unless you are from a rich family. Maybe in future stellina will have a competitive price, just not now. Amazing video as always 🤩🔭

    • @nmtb1972

      I am sitting on the fence about starting this hobby, but I am daunted by the steep learning curve. Whereas the robot would take all the fun away and the bragging rights, it would help to compare with what you would be doing. Spending that amount of money on kit that is only supposed to help you is another matter.

    • @Scoffslaphead72
      @Scoffslaphead72 3 роки тому +23

      @@nmtb1972 think about it this way, what is the point of getting that picture if you dont do the work to get it? At that point you might as well just get an image off of google. most of the time the image you get from this won't even be comparable to a normal astro setup.

    • @Threel
      @Threel 3 роки тому +10

      @@Scoffslaphead72 So people that don't have the time to pour into the rigging and fiddling and learning etc are excluded from taking part? that's not a great way of look at a hobby. You should be happy that there are coming easier options for people to getting into something you like. more people can take part and expand ideas. more people will learn in a different way and over time upgrade their gear and expand their methods.

    • @Scoffslaphead72
      @Scoffslaphead72 3 роки тому +12

      @@Threel what I am saying is that the point of this hobby isn't just getting the picture, its the process of getting it. I imagine you can enjoy it without that, but spending $4000 to do that? I would rather spend a bit more time and a lot less money.
      Aswell this idea that people who cant afford the time to dedicate to this hobby are excluded is ridiculous. Certain hobbies simply take longer than others, I can play a game on my pc for 10 minutes but I will have to dedicated hours, days or even weeks to assemble and paint models. Now if there was a machine that you could buy that did it for you and it cost $4000, you would most likely feel dissatisfied and with a much lighter wallet.

    Absolutely fascinating video as usual - great insight into the other side of things. I knew you'd end up with a EQ config for the skywatcher. I guess Stellina is like taking a Polaroid Vs using a DSLR. You can get a shot but that's it - you'll always get a similar shot. But with an astro rig you can control every aspect and experiment to get the best shot for that particular target - clusters need different settings to faint nebs. Maybe they will address that in their firmware. And you're always going to be limited with an altaz no matter how fancy you get with the software.

    Brilliant. Been waiting ever so patiently to see your results. So, If I wanted to go to a very damp field in deepest darkest Wales to take some images I can see the real advantage of a one off box to do everything I need to get a good image result. There is no lugging of tripod, tracking mount, battery pack, leads, telescope, intervalometer, camera, filter wheel, filters, dew heater, table, PC, spirit level across the cow pats to set up. I'm sure I've forgotten something important there as well.... and will have to drive home to get it; plus I forgot the thermos of tea. Wonderful Biscuiting as ever, thank you!

      This is a sound argument, I have tried lugging my Celestron 8 in a bergen up a hill. it is hit and miss. The stellina gives a higher degree of portability even at 25lb and you can see how on target you are in the middle of nowhere and still bring raw data back for further processing

    Doesn't matter that 'Stellina costs £ 4000. I have been looking forward to this video after the trailer, I think Astrobiscuit deserves a lot more audience on UA-cam than it does now. I think it's a must to watch, and he always knows how to make / entertain a nice story. Thick Thumbs up! (I don't know Astrobiscuit in person b.t.w)
