You do need to have the PE Design 11 Software to send designs wirelessly to this machine from your computer. There are also some phone apps from Brother that can be used wirelessly with it, however. Those are My Design Snap which works with the My Design Center on the machine, or My Stitch Monitor which will let you know if anything happens while you're embroidering like if a needle or thread breaks.
