      Preflight every pack.....I had a situation the other day I ran 2 packs thru my timber x and I put a 3rd pack in and took off and my aelerons and elevator were reversed....luckily I just let it fly straight and had the room to coach myself to land it with reversed controls and brought it down like a nice bag of hammers....only damage was broken prop tip from it striking the ground with the suspension full squatted.....very lucky....but def pre flight before every takeoff

      EVERY time anything is plugged up, it's like booting up a new anything. Several times, (b4 I went all spektrum), stuff was reversed. I lost an antique Tribute profile from that.

      I always preflight. Especially my UMX Turbo Timber I chase cars with as they pass by my house. A bad servo could end up giving the neighborhood dogs I compete against, the advantage.

      Preflight every time, or else you'll end up like TheRCSaylors complaining about a "bad servo" if they would have checked before that flight, they wouldn't have nosed into the ground.

    First of all thanks for the video and greetings from Sweden!
    This video made me buy this plane an get in the hobby, took it out for a spin last weekend and it flew super, i had to get home twice and charge the two lipos i bougt, the last two battery packs i even flew with reflex gyro completly turned off and made rolls, loops and even some mild inverted flying on high altitude. I must say i think it is a great beginners plane if you have studied youtube about stalls and what not to do in the air. I have never tried rc planes before and the only training i had was from Grand Theft Auto V.

    Great video! I was surprised to this size but I can understand them making it as the 1700mm is so good. It looks solid and as I already have an Arrows Bigfoot I guess they both give about the same performance in the same size. Tires on the Bigfoot are rock hard but that's both a con and a pro compared to the super soft ones on this PA-18.

    My 1.7m is a fun plane. I got 12 minute flights on a 4000 mah 4S pack. I had so much fun with it that when the motor and firewall flew off mid-flight and I had to dead-stick it, I converted it to glow. I threw an OS Max FP40 in it and rebuilt a stronger firewall, threw in a 500 ml tank and I get 45-55 minute flights now. I'd never go back to electric on it. Haha

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  Рік тому

    • @cwwisk
      @cwwisk Рік тому

      @@TwoBrosRC I suspect it was an unbalanced prop situation. The firewall and cowl and motor just flew off on the downwind pass after climb out. Luckily, the oversized battery kept my cg good enough to set her down gently.
      Edit: I took off from an unmaintained hay field, so any number of things could have happened. The only foam that was damaged was the part holding the firewall. The nose stayed on for the most part.

    Lol you put the RcSaylors on blast, which I still don't know if it was Nate's fault for a straight vertical takeoff into a stall while pulling flaps, an alleged faulty elevator servo, or a mixture of both causing catastrophic failure and removal of said nose.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  Рік тому +7

      It's unacceptable to us to take up a flying machine and NOT check it thoroughly before flying. Elevator servos don't fail immediately after takeoff. We've flown thousands of times in the past two and a half years and have never experienced a total elevator failure that wasn't obviously our own fault - like the servo came loose because we added an aftermarket servo and didn't secure it properly. You're flying a potentially deadly machine around people and property. It demands your full attention both BEFORE flying and DURING flight.
      It's unconscionable to us to be provided a model like this from FMS and then immediately wreck it without having performed even the most basic preflight check. If we sound harsh, it's because this kind of attitude toward the hobby is 100% unacceptable. We can debate endlessly about gyros vs no gyros, batteries, flight styles, etc - but aviation safety is NOT up for debate. If you're posting content to YT, you should be held to a higher standard - you're setting an example for people. Don't set a bad example.

    • @steelrainfpv3383
      @steelrainfpv3383 Рік тому +2

      @@TwoBrosRC I fully agree with everything you've stated being a long time RC pilot, and really any true maiden should never be filmed because it adds so much more complexity and things to think about instead of a first good flight with safety considerations. That particular review actually turned people off of FMS products just from reading the comments, and is not responsible, indicative or a good representation of FMS and it's products as a whole.

    • @shortbiggie
      @shortbiggie Рік тому +3

      I assure you any electromechanical device can fail at any time. Little rack and pinion gearing like in a servo are cast net shape and can have little cracks and burrs that once dislodged, might very well wait until the weakness is fatigued to the point of failure. That very well could be the case anytime during flight. One thing I learned as a private pilot was that there is no such thing as alway and never when it comes to flying. There is no such thing in the manufacture of servos either.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  Рік тому +1

      @@shortbiggie Well, yes, that's true - but as we mentioned, we've flown thousands of times and have only had servos fail three times out of those flights. It's exceedingly rare unless you're beating them up on the ground. The issue with the person we're discussing is that he knew the servo was bad and flew it anyhow. That's a terrible example to set for people and demonstrates a complete lack of concern for aviation safety for either himself, his wife, or the airport he's flying at.

    • @shortbiggie
      @shortbiggie Рік тому +1

      Agreed. A screwy servo prior to flight should have grounded the plane, especially being the elevator. I think it’s important to push the edge to find where the performance limits might be. That’s what sets apart testers from mere “promoters.” Now if the Midwest winds ever decide to take a break, I want to get this plane in the air myself. By the way, I checked the fit of my FMS Kingfisher floats and water rudder on this plane and they are a drop-in fit, no tweaks necessary.

    Great video and nice review. Comments so far are a disappointment. You don't make yourself taller by cutting off other peoples knees and bad examples can still be learned from. There will always be someone better or smarter than you or I that can just as easily critique anything we do.

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC  Рік тому +3

      Nobody's being kneecapped. The fact is that people with influence need to be held to higher standards. There is no reason why a preflight check should be skipped in full scale or model scale aviation. The risk of seriously injuring someone or destroying property with a model aircraft is huge. Influencers owe it to their audience AND their sponsors to produce quality content AND demonstrate safe procedures. A preflight is the most basic thing anyone can do to ensure that something will fly safely and correctly.

      It depends on what you're trying to do. Kingfisher is a bit more aerobatic and has more 3D potential, but the Super Cub isn't slouching either.

      @@TwoBrosRC maybe. They are likely pretty thin tires with lots of internal space. Bush plane tires tend to look extremely low for aggressive landings. I'd leave a link, but the Tube doesn't like links in comments haha
      Edit: it is surface area friction on the ground that keeps it from bouncing.
