im not a dancer or a dance teacher, yet i understood this was a fusion dance not strictly bharatanatyam. she wasn't at her best but the concept was conveyed like an open book. she's a legend and i admire her capacity to make dance simple for everyone to understand. she's remarkable.

This is a great performance by shobana as she is embodying the deity Durga and has to change in to the warrior goddess she is known to b e. Beautiful dance and choreography was excellent if not pure bharatanatyam
Shobhana badly needs to go back to dance school and retrain. Obviously she has lost touch . Her adavus are not precise and she seems to move in a carefree way. Bharathanatyam requires strength and precision, Shobhana seems to be making an halfhearted attempt at dancing. She did dance well in some of her movies decades ago. Last ten years or so many of us have watched her talents wane away. I cant believe she thinks she can still perform and organizers keep inviting her to perform at such events. This is embarrassing.
Exactly observed, this is because of something called over experimenting and fusion work, in order to create a separate image in the name of that particular bred style, of course Shobana ji has deviated, just like her Hema Malini ji also deviated, she performs Kuchipudi in Bhatanatyam attire and mixes both the forms along with yet another dance style Odissi by her daughters. It has become trendy now a days. Its good thing to experiment new stuff but without having been delineated from the roots.
With all due respect, even an ignorant person like me can say this laser show and horrible costumes are not worthy of the dancer or the distinguished audience.

Is it me or did she look cumbersome, as if she was struggling to keep up, almost as if she was struggling to carry her own legs, and her posture and breathing were off. And when i see the other dancers it looks as if shes tense in the wrong areas of her body, and maybe off rythm and struggling to keep up? I've seen other dancers and the way they move is effortless, airy and graceful, while being fiery and strong, and evoking emotion, it's as if you are in the moment, even children I've watched have moved with less effort. I'm not trying to be insulting because in way am I an expert I'm just asking, because it seems that way to me....or is it that way on purpose? Can someone please tell me? It feels as if the audience wasn't moved either.

Kerala is strictly divided in to two parts. South Kerala up to Cochin. And from Cochin to Malabar. The Travancorevregion is of Malayalam-Tulu and the Cochin to Malabar is Malayali-Tamil. We (Travancore) region is very very orthodox, sanskrit oriented. The malabar region is having Ghazal etc and all. The Travancore area is DEVA's and Malabar region is SEVAK region. Imagine her Aunties Padmini or Ragini or Lalita or even Vyjayanthimala or Kumari Kamala or L Vijayalakshmi for that matter even Meenakshi Seshadri would have burnt the dance floor with our hearts on fire for more...that was them and this is now, no doubt Shobana is an accomplished dancer herself this was just average..
Yeah , no doubt she is immensely talented but this performance just below average...
Where is Meenakshi Seshadri dancing now? When was the last time she came on stage like this?

What i meant was Shobana is a terrific dancer but her moves in this was average..she reminded me of Hema Malini
