There is a widely utilized concept in science fiction that ships need to create oxygen and to do so would likely require a lot of life support machinery, entire parts of the ship are dedicated to these machines. Theres a likelihood that the oxygen produced and resulting condensation would create high levels of moisture. So, lots of hot machines radiating heat are converting c02 into lots of wet, hot, air and that gets us the sweating crew mates and dripping environments we often see. Plus, liquid hydrogen is the “fuel of the future” do to its ability to exist as a liquid within a vacuum.
@@7brokenribs this is the best and most accurate description I’ve ever heard for why the ship in aliens looks like a sweaty truck stop bathroom. Lol. Not a troll, your explanation actually makes a lot of sense.
@@7brokenribs That doesn't make any sense. We have to generate oxygen and scrub the waste even now, in existing spacecraft, as well as keep the environment moisture free, cuz moisture corrodes, rusts, and can cause electrical shorts. There's no logical reason at all to have wet, drippy, humid spaceships, cuz it'd be hazardous as fuck and actively dangerous to anyone's survival.
This movie deserves so much more praise than it gets. The characters in the movie almost never make any dumb decisions, a lot of the issues that impede their survival make sense and feel genuinely daunting, and their solutions to said problems are usually extremely clever or take clear and obvious tolls on them. The fact that the movie’s creators went through the trouble of conceptualizing emergency hand-cranking power generators included with every piece of technology on the ship shows me that a TON of thought was put into the overall production and conception of this film’s premise. One of my favorite horror movies of all time, and an absolutely brilliant spin on the Cosmic Horror subgenre.

I honestly like this movie, felt like it deserved more attention, especially in how the creatures came to be in the first place, love the science breakdown you gave here!
So, a few things: I think the enzyme was meant to make humans more quickly adapt. This could be adapting via quicker reproduction and via introducing more mutations or both. The 800 extra years isn't that the time frame of the trip was wrong, but that the captain "freed" a few of them on the ship while going back to sleep multiple times due to his mental state. This is also why the food supplies are seriously depleted, and also, I believe they mention at some point that one of the ones they found was actually still very young.
I agree completely. It’s between this movie and Pitch Black that I put on my hidden gem Sci-Fi findings. Both were late night can’t sleep let me just find something to watch films and I was hooked. I just would love more from this universe and know what happened during those missing years.

Using xenomorphing instead of terraforming. Sadly it has the same damn question as this movie - why not use this technology on Earth too? If you can adapt people to somehow survive on Titan of all places, no matter what cataclysm happens on Earth, they'd still find it more livable then Titan, lol:D

The term for the hum of the earth, if I recall correctly is The Hum Of Gaia, and it's a phenomenon that can also occur if you say, go to another country. From what I've read it's related not just to the "hum" of earth, but the plates in which you live on.

Loving the video so far, but I wanted to give you a quick shout out for keeping your sponsored segments / ads at the beginning of your vids. It makes all the difference for keeping the video immersive and on track.
Thanks for the new video! They're always a fun time to watch :)
This movie is one of my favorites! Just wish there was expanded lore with the story. There's so much that can be done
Its like solid 3 movies from this Universe. The War on Earth, The Crash Landing/Travel into Space, and the New Begginning/Colonisation.
@propaganda118 definitely could expand upon any or all of those 3 and I'd be like shut up and take my money 🤣
The ending leaves so much room for an interesting sequel.
@FandangoJon at the end I was like damn, i don't have enough information for my nerdy brain to tie up loose ends
I agree completely. It’s between this movie and Pitch Black that I put on my hidden gem Sci-Fi findings. Both were late night can’t sleep let me just find something to watch films and I was hooked. I just would love more from this universe and know what happened during those missing years.
13:25 If i remember right, his wife was left behind because she was barren and unable to produce offspring so the higher ups saw her as dead weight and denied her entry on the ship as she had no applicable skills to the mission.
Was that from the book or some kind of novelization?
I remember watching this as a kid and thinking it was really good. I watched it last night as an adult and realized this movie is phenomenal. One of my favorites
Thanks for covering this movie! I've always been really interested in how the story worked and what the creatures were supposed to be.
Pandorum has been one of my favourite Sci-Fi films of the two-thousands and I always wanted there to be a sequel which unfortunately never came. Having your scientific view of the film was awesome and only increases my love of the film.
I haven't seen you do this often but I would love to see a video with your analysis of what you would imagine would happen to the colonist after they're freed from the ship.🙏
Have you seen The Titan? It's another movie about tinkering with human genetic adaptations and fleeing a dying Earth, but instead of flat-out leaving the solar system, they're trying to adapt humans to living on Titan. I think it'd be a fun one for you to make into a new episode.
Sounds like a knock-off of "Man Plus".
@@jeffumbach I've never heard of that, so I don't know. The Titan was a movie I saw on Netflix when I still had it.
Using xenomorphing instead of terraforming. Sadly it has the same damn question as this movie - why not use this technology on Earth too? If you can adapt people to somehow survive on Titan of all places, no matter what cataclysm happens on Earth, they'd still find it more livable then Titan, lol:D
@@TheArklyte not to mention it'd be helluva lot easier coming up with food on Earth, even during an environmental catastrophe. Unless they modified some crops or food animals to survive on Titan, that poor dude is probably gonna starve to death.
@@anasazidarkmoon "...gonna starve to death"
Well, they said they've sent other -meals- humans with him, didn't they?;)
One of my favorite things about your channel is that it gives me more movies to watch that have slipped under my radar.
I straight up make it a point when a video comes out to go watch the movie first and then come back. Great stuff!
Ive been hoping for a video on Pandorum for a long time. One of the first sci-fi movies I saw, and it gave me an interest in sci-fi horror, in combination with the flood from H:CE.
i love this channel, Roanoke is the only channels that go into such detail of biological mechanics on so many varied subjects from games and movies
35:37 “…issue of inbreeding has already been addressed “ *fade out* ^chef’s kiss moment^
Unironically my favorite horror movie, I know the scores aren't too high but I've always loved it and rewatched it a few times.
Pandorum is a very under appreciated movie. I'm so glad you're covering this one!
Underrated movie in my opinion. Like Event Horizon. I hope more people give it a chance.
+1 because Event Horizon is my favorite horror movie! 😁
The theory is this is a seqaul to event horizon. The reason they sent people out in stasis was because the zero point drive didn't work and this was their back up.
Caillou in the air vents is a good premise for a VR horror game
Always wanted to watch this movie but never got myself to actually do it, but since I didn't want to get spoiled by watching your video I finally watched it! It was a great movie, so thank you!
Such a good video. Really glad to see this doing so well and always look forward to the more in-depth look into these movie and video game diseases. Keep it up!
I have made it a point to watch all your videos, as I drive a lot for work. I think I've finally accomplished this, and it's crazy to hear you thanking people for having 100 subscribers and now you have almost 850k! You are killing it bro, very knowledgeable and entertaining, plus always interesting theories. Keep up that sigma male grindset bro, always looking forward to your videos!
Are you interested in covering the avatar movies now that 2 came out
Cause I know they are kinda boring but the alien world and alien biology is pretty interesting imo
Especially the whole tail nerve system thing
That would actually be a cool idea, id go for that
Good one Ro. I wondered about that. It was explained in the movie but vaguely. I'm here because you brother are scientifically thorough...
Question: Are you a doctor or medical student? You seem to know your way around medical dialogue, conditions, and other related matter really well.
I appreciate that man, I worked in a microbiology lab testing certain organisms but can't talk about what I actually did haha

I saw this movie completely by chance on tv, it has since become something I re-watch rather often. Thanks for covering it!
I always thought a sequel would be cool. Maybe not a movie, maybe a TV series or even a video game. Have the 1000 colonists and a bunch of the monsters create their own dualing mirror cultures where they have to contend with the perils of the new planet.
All the monsters where drowned at the end
@@jimmyconway2800 You don't think some could have escaped? Much of the ship was exposed above water?
Love seeing videos about this, such an underrated film, everyone who knows it are absolute chads, and those who haven’t im sure could get there one day
I love these videos, seeing a glimpse into the biology behind the movie is great. I'd love to see your take on the creature from "the autopsy" in Cabinet of Curiosities
Bro, you have the best metaphors ever . "Like a single mom after two bottles of wine" nearly killed me. I got learn not to eat while watching your videos, one of these days I'm gonna choke and die laughing.
Such an underrated film.
Thanks for covering it!
absolutely, hope you enjoyed bro
I've seen this suggested a few times, glad you covered it brother!
I was brought up by a swimming teacher mother, I never really had swimming lessons as I just sort of knew what to do without thinking about it. The problem came when i went through my courses to become a swimming teacher myself because I didnt really know HOW to do something, I just did it. My point is that when you look at a group of people and think "how can they behave like that?", well if you are brought up with something unusual that is treated as normal then you never know that IT IS unusual.
Honestly a REALLY under appreciated movie. I'm not a huge horror fan but I loved this one
Have you considered doing a video on the creatures from Pitch Black? It's an underappreciated action/horror movie.
3:26 I love the fact "I am STILL dead" , insinuating that he gets revived later.
2553 - damn am I STILL dead? What is taking so long?
Scene that freaked me out the most was when the shutters opened up she asked "where are the stars?"
Roanoke is easily my favorite channel, some cable exec needs to give this man his own show asap, my guys got talent.
Roanoke is breaking down my favorite movies one by one, year by year!
I swear weeks prior under one of your other videos I was asking for a Pandorum video since the movie is so close to a dead space movie. I’m so glad you’ve covered this movie
The problem is not the capability of Earth to sustain our growth, it's our inability to combat our greed and make long-term plans.
Man, I truly do love this channel. I do wonder if he remembers me from one of his first few videos that he replied to my comment.
Either way, I'm happy he has achieved a strong youtube platform!
“Jumping around after them like a single mom after two bottles of wine “ 😂😂😂😂
That moment when they thought they travelled so far the stars were gone really disturbed me as a kid
"73 with tornadoes" love that tornadoes have become just a daily thing like yeah it's just a bit tornado-y out today
The scariest part of this movie was when the innocent crew in pods were ejected/vented into the void. Imagine waking up or being awake, seeing yourself floating out into the darkness, knowing you'll run out of oxygen and no one will come for you, dying afraid.
I absolutely love this movie, one of my favourite plot twists of all time
Keep it up. You are one of my fave channels! I love the in-depth discussions about the creatures. Love it!
I still love this movie so much. It was the first piece of speculative evolution media I ever saw and damn was it a great start to a great genre!
I wish this movie got a sequel would love to see how they try to build a functioning society, maybe go back in to the ship to get supplies and stuff. Tons of potential.
I always wanted a sequel or some type of extended cut of this fun movie
For the longest time I remembered seeing this movie, but couldn't remember it's name. Thank you for this.
The term for the hum of the earth, if I recall correctly is The Hum Of Gaia, and it's a phenomenon that can also occur if you say, go to another country.
From what I've read it's related not just to the "hum" of earth, but the plates in which you live on.
Interesting! Makes sense though, different materials, different frequencies!
@@RoanokeGaming right! That's my own hypothesis aside from the other attributes of different tectonic plates. It could be numerous things actually, from speed to depth and size, and even as stated before, the material itself.
Its super fascinating!
I was wondering when you would cover this movie since it was right up your alley. I learned something from it man.
I adore this movie and would really love a sequel. We need more low to mid budget fun sci-fi.
Yesssss!! I really enjoyed Roanoke Tales! It got me through a 3000 mile road trip this summer.
Great video as always Roanoke. I have a question, do you think you may one day cover the Beast Plague from Bloodborne?
Yes! Getting back into video games as well lately on this channel so will have to do some bloodborne!
@@RoanokeGaming awesome! Love to see how you try and make sense of one of From Softwares insane games
@@RoanokeGaming I asked the same thing. Great to hear man. Love your vids
Man this explained is great. Cause usually videos are explaining what happened during the movie or explaining the science behind it. You did both!
I was JUST about to open Netflix to watch some animal documentaries to be inspired to reach my physical potential as a lot of those massive predators do, but this is more important
;)
@@RoanokeGaming also, and I know I’m repetitive: the more I see you, the more inspired I get. Not only because you’re massive, but because it’s clear how passionate you are about your field of science. Funnily enough, I used to not care about this stuff until I started going to the gym. Researching training and nutrition subsequently brought me to discover my fascination for biology, anatomy, zoology and even virology to an extent. It’s weird how a simple sport made me fall in love with so much stuff that doesn’t really have anything to do with powerlifting, but still. Sorry for the rant, I’m just hyped. Keep up the great work brother
Tanis actually being Earth was wild
If I recall correctly the local people on Mt. Everest have some pretty amazing adaptations that allow them to breathe at points high enough 'low landers' need respirators
yes actually, they have larger lungs and a denser network of blood vessels within said lungs, allowing them to more easily pull oxygen out of thinner air
Honestly the one thing about this movie I liked the most is the various hand crank generators especially the one for the computer. Besides that great video
I remember seeing this movie on mushrooms…in a theatre. Me and my friends were the only people in there but you would of thought the whole place was packed by the amount of noise we were making. Still haven’t recovered.
One of the best sci fi movies ever. Loved this movie so much and I never see talk about it. So cool to see one of my favorite youtubers tackle it!!!!
It's one of the reasons why I also like Knights of Sidonia. People had to adapt to their generation ship, and that included genetic engineering humans who could photosynthesize to cut down on food production
Hey Roanoke. I just recently learned that if they keep striking down your videos. You can put a video of yourself in the corner as if you're doing a reaction video, and then usually your video won't be hit. Learned this from Wendigoo .
I love this movie, reminded me of dead space and was just a joy to watch. Would love to see more space horror.
Great video I've always been hyped about this movie since I saw the first promo poster as a kid. Thanks Roanoke!
I always thought the peel from stasis was like a geel or layer like suit to protect the skin against the cold. Idk first time i saw it I thought it was kind of a brilliant detail.
Going through your channel I'm like, boy I hope he's covered that one space movie that I can't remember the title to but I loved, and here it is. You really do it all my dude, thank you~
I love Pandorum. It's right up there with Event Horizon!
Dude! I just showed this movie to my wife for the first time yesterday!!! And I had no idea this video came out! WTF
Hello there ^w^
Sorry for bothering but i love hearing your voice and your explaining of this kind of things, so was wondering - would you perhaps want to explain a "Monsters" from a movie called "Spectral" (2016) and if perhaps they could exist irl
Just curious ^w^
Love this movie. Also, what you have to do to avoid copyright strikes and UA-cam bullshit policy is mind-boggling.
seeing that pandorum footage in black and white makes the pictures even more georgeous, didn't expected that :D
I've been waiting for this one! Thank you!
Ay props for the new vid Roanoke I absolutely loved this one☝🏼
I absolutely love this film. Totally underrated.
First video of the year!? Always a good day to watch my guymake a new video
