I found it interesting how this movie implies that these mutated monsters are the root for human beliefs in demons. That monastery had a mural depicting the mutants attacking people if i am remembering correctly. So at some point the cave parasite was able to infect people and leave the cave to hunt on the surface. Also interesting was the monastery being built over the cave entrance and the presence of dead men in armor within the cave monsters nesting area. This, as well as there being no more monsters until modern humans reentered the cave, implies that some zealous as heck holy knights not only entered the cave to confront the monsters but that they were victorious. The church was probably built to keep the parasite contained until memory of what actually happened faded. Pretty hardcore.
I always say there’s a reason for every “monster” story. A lot of the times it will just be something pretty benign but one of my personal favorites is how every culture that has a concept of a “dragon” essentially views them the same way, there are certain aesthetic differences but the “flying, fire breathing lizard” is consistent even in cultures that had no contact with each other and there is no feasible way they’d have heard about it from an outside source. This is just a movie but there’s a lot we don’t understand in this world or really fully know that we dismiss as superstition a lot of the time because that’s easier than trying to grasp the truth
@@mihailmilev9909 true but a lot of that stuff we don’t even investigate, for example an overgrown parasite like in the video is a lot less crazy than a demon from hell, but because we write off things as “just being superstition” we never ask “what if something like that has basis in reality?”
@@Noofter there's a pretty good case about dragons being just mistakenly identify Dinosaur fossils, and dinosaurs where literally everywhere on the planet.
My Grandmother told me a story that when she was a girl she was on a cave tour. The tour guide was a bit drunk and was pointing out the Stalactites and Stalagmites and how the water dripping will make one then drip down and make the other. Someone in the tour group asked what are they called when the two come together. The guide took a moment and said a "Mighty Tight."
Something not enough people acknowledge in these types of creatures and their skeletons is the swollen or overly bulbous joints, often looking like severe arthritis. While the irl explanation is it makes it look more disease ridden and scarier, it could also explain the increased strength by lengthening the moment-arm at the joint. Basically allowing the muscle to pull from a higher point and increasing the leverage. Doubt you'll see this Roanoke, but it's something I've been dying to point out that no ever acknowledges in these creature flicks.
This was actually part of the biology of the Pak Protectors from Larry Niven's books as far back as 1973. The wikipedia page for them even directly links to the article that explains the concept of a moment arm.
Although the world of academia can sometimes be a bit littered with a bit more pretentious vile. (Not saying that everyone is, just that there are definitely those nasty chunks within that spoil the brew.)
@@DuchiaSpy There's a similar beef between different mechanic MOS's in the Army. 91M's hate 91A's, 91G is never there anyway so we forget they exist, and everybody collectively hates 91B's because they're almost always some mouth-breathing ASVAB waiver that can't even manage their own MOS, while the rest of us pick up their slack as a hobby.
I always wanted to see a prequel or sequel to this film. Either a bunch of knights trying to fight these creatures off and realizing there's nothing they could do but seal the passage off Or a post apocalyptic event where survivors try to fight off these creatures hunting them day and night. Really, either one would make for a decent film.
I think it's more probable that the symbiote's desire to get to the surface was triggered by it's host (humans) since it's our preferred biome. Since, as you said, all it's other hosts probably COULD get to the surface if they really tried but didn't, the symbiote may have not had any desire until it acquired a creature that actually prefers living above ground.
makes sense, other guys were stuck long enough they probably lost the desire to actually keep trying to get out when the infection completely changed them into something better suited to living in the cave
@@louiscypher4186 That was my interpretation too. I think she was just blaming her OWN behavior on the symbiote to excuse herself of any guilt for what she knew was going to happen next.
Now I kinda want a sequel because she seems so batshit crazy that I have no doubt she'd deliberately get herself pumped full of babybatter to see if she can have multiple children at once like animals. Thus becoming the "Queen- Mother" to an army of symbiotic humanoid like creatures that proceed to turn Romania into one giant dinner table.
I never took the "it wants out of the cave" line to imply that it actually was a thinking thing. I always thought she meant it in a more figurative way like saying "That car just wants to go fast".
I always figured it was instinctive, like how a seedling rises from the soil because it "wants" the sun to shine on it. The parasite "wants" out so it can spread and develop a greater genetic diversity, similar to how a virus "wants" to spread.
the "it wants out" line is probably more anthropomorphizing than the symbiote actually giving two shits about where it is. she wanted to get out of the cave, so her brain things she would want to leave the cave, but the "monsters" live there, it's their home, they are comfortable in the cave.
8:45 Humans can feel dampness and moisture through breathing, and wet environments do have a different scent than dry ones, thats probably what was implied there (I myself can tell when water is near by smelling the air, and thats probably only easier assuming saltwater)
I can tell when it's gonna rain abt 24 hours before, and when I go to the lake, I can smell it before I can even see it. My parents can never surprise me with lake trips because of it
Yes, thank you. I'm blind and my sense of smell is stronger than my hearing. I can tell it's going to rain by the smell of the dirt and any rocks around. I've had the hardest time explaining that to my aunt so she could understand. She always tells me I'm lying. So thank you, I can't believe I didn't think of this: the moisture in the air is enough to change the scent of the area around me. No more arguments with my aunt!
Yup, humans can definitely smell water sources from a distance. I can usually smell lakes, rivers, ponds and even large puddles, and the ocean, before I see them. I can also smell rain before it happens. Those are pretty normal abilities though. Jack's ability to smell water was definitely abnormal, because they were in a partially enclosed area not directly next to the source of water, the place they were in was extremely damp, they were all wet from a previous dip in another water source, and yet he was ablse to smell and pinpoint that SPECIFC source of water.
Dude I just realized I've been actively watching this channel for like, at least 3-4 years. What if the mind is not lost during infection? The reason the cave monsters might have became that way is due to isolation. The doctor at the end is just crazy because ego.
I would love to see a video where you go through to explain the plot, adversaries, and monsters in the game _The Forest_ some time. Whenever I see parasites that incorporate traits from previous hosts, it always makes me wonder: what if it accidentally takes the wrong traits?? Eg the gills of the eel, the intelligence of the rats, the sight of the humans. Whatever poor abomination crawls out of that cave will curse the evolution gods for rolling natural-1s on its evolutionary dice! 😆
@selectidiot yeah, the rat intelligence and eel gills I kinda get, (rats have good problem solving but that's besides the point when compared to human intelligence), but human eyes are incredibly well developed when compared to anything other than raptor (birds of prey) vision, we have binocular vision which allows us exceptional depth perception, our visual pattern recognition is so strong that we see creatures in what should be abstract shapes, our ability to distinguish color is second only to insects, and our kinetic vision is so good that we can perceive movement that is by every other metric outside of our line of sight, our sense of sight is so good that our other senses actually atrophied with time due to our reliance on sight
0:43 If there's one thing I will never forget it's that a good number of folk tales, myths, and legends typically have some reason to exist as an explanation for something. And if the folk tale is "A bunch of guys fought monsters and sealed them away in here" then I'm gonna take that with a grain of salt and caution. You never know when the myths or legends turn out to be true, and in movies they tend to have a VERY BAD habit of being completely true or understatements.
I live in a society in Africa saturated by myth including the greatest myth of all, mr god. Its fascinating to note that a majority of those who 'survive' and 'get ahead' in this environment believe in the god fabrication as well as all judeochristoislamic myths.

What if the symbiote evolves through generations of hosts, picking up certain traits and amplifying them. If they were infecting mole rats and bats before that could explain the wings and digging claws but not expressing outright sentience. But now that it's a couple generations into humans it might take on a more psychological and covert role, that might be why the first human was morphed to such an extreme degree while the chick in the end only was showing changed eyes and not claws. It might also explain the bones in the church cause they might have been ending the generational path in humans early by game ending infected comrades. If it made all those changes to survive in the cave than who's to say we arnt making it smarter, so that with its new intelligence it might decide a more covert mutation is in order to survive and propagate. Amoungus! (Just got to the end and you had the same idea. Also the reason it never left it mightve just never had the intelligence to think of leaving the cave, instead just trying to blindly survive without a thought behind it with would have ingrained survival deep in its modus operandi.)
This kind of sounds like what's going on with prototype, except instead of adapting with a host you use your virus body to consume entire organisms hold with who knows how much biomass physically compressed to a point that the very Adams have less distance between each other and or the parts of the atoms. Delicious of course assuming that it's not mostly gas, but if you've got that much gas in your body in this world and what is going on. You could argue that a lot of business going towards heat, but then you see just how heavy you are in both of the games. You consume the brawler not quite whole and then you acquire claws, you consume the Juggernaut and you get a shield, do it again and you get Hammer Fists. Consume the infected lady with a whip that is really compressible or really really good at expanding but probably compressing, and you get the whip fist which is longer than roughly more than one blue whale upon full extension. Let's not get started on the Goliath. Roanoke would have a field day with that series wouldn't he. Oh yeah then there's the biomass covering walls that Brawlers can then be birthed from. Let's not go into Elizabeth and all of the memories that you acquire from this game by civilians and not civilians. You might need an Xbox 360 play the game if you don't have the re-release but there is youtube. The grown-up covers this and you better believe the Nostalgia is hitting hard, and maybe the video game developers will finally put dismembering back in their games outside of cutscenes and One Singular limb from ghosts of tsushima and if you understand that you're using a Legendary Blade as a client member who is part of the clan displayed was handed down through the generations, and is implied to have your father Soul inside of it or just their soul guiding you. These are Mythic techniques and you only ever get a severed arm outside of removing the head of the big bad at the end.
@@assfuckerthejointpounder5834 a weird tangent but yea something like that, I was more along the lines of the symbiote incorporating previous hosts genetic information into itself and using it like new tools in the toolbox for when it reshapes the host. The eel didn't change much because there wasn't much to improve but with humans it used its current understanding of the environment and old hosts to reshape and "improve" us to better live in caves. But with it gaining increased intelligence and basic sentience from a couple of iterations of humans it might ditched the claws, teeth, and wings now that it's understanding of its environment has changed. And the next people infected will morph into different lifeforms, and so on like generations. Not as instant of a change as prototype but more like an actual organism.
But why it would choose eyes to mutate. From all the organs and senses, sight is our best one, and I'm sure a microbiological entity from a dark cave don't know things or two about the daylight vision.
@@SneakyBadAssOG who said it was improving their vision? They look pretty messed up, could be breaking them down. I'm just throwing my theory/two cents out there.
@@dopedfurry2010 The premise is, this entity is a symbiote trying to help beings survive in the cave, rather than kill them, so it's in its best interest to keep them alive. It was changing their eyes in the cave to adapt for the darkness (or rather to dampen their eyesight so ears and echo location can take a hold) so I don't really see reason why would this symbiote tried to mess with their eyes on the surface, a place the symbiote has no experience with.
While obviously intended to be taken as the thing is now conscious thru humans in the movie, the fact she says the thing "wanted out" doesn't necessarily mean that it was planning and conscious if looked at in a different way. Considering the thing starts morphing anatomy to the conditions of the cave, it could simply be that the woman's body is being changed, but differently, and that the conditions outside the cave are more beneficial to the symbiosis (perhaps even changing how it ended up morphing her, as the conditions involved in the cave aren't causing it to need to change as much to the bat form, possibly due to more food/warmth/light.) Her interpretations of said changes then could be, that the thing wanted the current environment, and not the old, as the changes are rewarding her (thru pleasure or thru changes in her feelings of "wants" such as maybe warmth, or drier environments, or even light.) In her current "not fully functioning right mentally" state, she could interpret the things "wanting out of the cave environment" from just what she's getting positive feedback from (avoiding cold and moist areas, low lighting, and more wanting to be around large amounts of "potential hosts" thru things like smell or sound cues.) If every time she's in different conditions that she interprets as the "cave" she's being un-rewarded with some pleasure or drive to remain there, it'd make sense that its less the parasite gaining sentience thru her, and more it just changing the hosts needs and wants to suit it and her just thinking it is taking full control (though technically i suppose it still is, just more carrot and the stick then turning into carpenters the thing). I guess that mouse seeking out cats and open areas thing would be fairly similar as a concept. The mouse's senses and thought processes are changed, but its still mostly just a mouse with an infection, not an infection in the shape of a mouse.)
So crazily enough the record for staying under with a rebreather is 24 hours set in 2014 but it sounds like they used multiple rebreathers to accomplish it and it didnt say anything about lithium although the article I read did say "The incredible novelty lies indeed in the decompression protocol, which introduces a new way of fathoming saturation diving by using successive gas mixes." so maybe lithium?
@@maccurtis730 No that, rebreathers use metal oxides like calcium oxide to capture co2 by chemical reaction CaO + CO2 -> CaCO3, this allows the air to be rebreathed afther adding some oxigen becase normal exaled air is still 15% oxigen. Lithium superoxide works in a similar way but also releases oxigen, it also produces hydrogen when in contact with water and gets very hot. It has already been use in life suport for spacecapsules.
These videos are quite impressive. Most movie reviews just dismiss as "absolutely impossible", but you look to and bring forward these closest -possible- explanations, and that's really cool. Keep up the good work!
Dude I'm so happy you did a video on this movie because I have been trying desperately to find it for literal years! I had convinced myself I was misremembering The Descent.
This has to be my favorite Roanoke video to date. Not only because this movie has been a deep menory but also the script for it just felt like a normal discussion.
You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this video about this movie. I remember watching this as a kid and loving it mainly because of the creatures and their unique designs which are still unique to this day and are very memorable. I have this movie on dvd so I never truly forgot about it and it’s also on Netflix right now for any of you that have not seen it.
The more I learn about Mycology and the Fungi Kingdom the more fascinating it ALL becomes! Would love to see more videos like Superdeep where Fungi are responsible for the affects and changes to people or the environments.
I remember seeing this movie with my dive team! They were using the same megalodon rebreathers some of our divers used. Some of our divers had the scooters too. You could yeet those things around and just hurt yourself before those scooters were really damaged lol It was such a pain moving them around.
I found this movie in a $5 creature feature dvd and my son and I love it. What I really like about movies like this and Rec is that there are scientific reasons for these demons or possessed it’s just the science is not understood. Like how there are logical suggestions for mythological creatures that weren’t understood when the myth started about.
12:02 that amusingly specific game reference also reminded me of Prince of Persia, which is even more amusing when I think about some dude running across walls and rooftops to shank people.
The wildest thing about this channel is everytime my brain recalls a movie I watched when I was a kid he releases a video on it the next week GET OUT OF MY HEAD
Hey Roanoke, I dont know if you do series but could can you take a look at the stregoi from the strain? I think it is a good series for you to analyse since this is a parasite outbreak turning people into monsters aiming an oversized worm out of their mouth onto your throat.

This movie is a mid-tier favorite of mine that I come back to a couple times a year. Love the aesthetic, the monster looks cool and I always enjoy Cole Hauser being a jerk who makes good points. But not once did I ever notice that they were somehow speaking normally with rebreathers in their mouths. Literally never paid attention to it, just assumed they had full masks with built-in radios. And now that I know, I can never un-know it. Thank you, Roanoke.
One of my fave movies. Good script on this one. Got a few giggles and some insight out of it. Bravo Roanoke. I like how you're bypassing copywrite nowadays. Keep up the great work.
I love this movie for a number of reasons... mostly how reckless all the teams in this film are. It is hilariously terrifying. Somewhat wanted a sequel.
34:58 Mine was waking up screaming from a night terror. Yes, that's my first ever actual memory, my first conscious memory is one of absolute terror about something haunting my dreams.
Thanks for continuing to cover these types of films loving your commentary and scientific approach! I will say I think The light touch of ambient music is much more enjoyable compared to the echoing effect
Interesting bringing up the whole "Snap on" of consciousness. I remember around 3 my first memory and memorably functional use of my brainmeat was going to the circus with my mother and father. The first and last time I saw them happy together. Hell of a memory to start with. I've never had someone describe that "Snap" effect quite so well, good work Roanoke. (GA represent)
I JUST WATCHED THIS MOVIE!! Me and one of my few friends also tentatively interested in horror decided to get together and we perused Netflix to try and find something but we were just confused this whole movie. Not by the creatures, but by the characters' actions. We liked the end though. I'm so glad you're covering it! I'm sending this to her for sure!!! :D
I honestly only watched this movie today because it was leaving Netflix today. I expected an absolutely trash fire. So I was pleasantly surprised! I loved the cave diving sequences and the practical effects/design of the monster and the twist ending. I sorely appreciate the drive to do something original, especially in today’s cinema landscape. Degenerate Take: Lena Headey in a wetsuit that eventually gets ripped. Where I come from, that’s known as A R T
What if the mutation in Jack were so aggresive cause he was actively resisting the adaptation since he felt that symbiosis was hostile rather than beneficial so the symbiosis forced adaptation on him so he prob was picking and choosing what works rather than natural flow. .But Jeane didn't have that extreme rejection so was true symbiosis at end is what I feel happened.
I knew you'd eventually review this movie, the concept of the creatures always interested me as a kid and I've always wondered if they would still take that same form on the surface.
5:00 it is possible to talk with a rebreather just not remotely possible with the particular breathing apparatus of choice and appears to be one I like to call “the octopus” because it has a spare breathing piece in case the other one gets damaged, your buddy runs out of oxygen, or even rescue situations, then there are the other hoses on “the octopus” (note there are not 8 hoses, just 4 3:20 octopus is just fun and easier) and they connect to the BCD (buoyancy control device) to keep you nice and buoyant so you don’t float up to the surface randomly and also preventing you from just sinking to the bottom of the ocean, and the last hose connects to a monitor type thing that keeps track of the amount of air you have to breathe before you either get to safety or suffocate. Tldr that’s not the correct breathing apparatus for them to be able to talk
I was wondering if you ever thought about doing a break down in the divergent evolution/morphology of the Eloi and the Morlocks from HG Wells' "The Time Machine". I always felt that was a really interesting plot point, and wondered if they were two different species at that point, or if they were just differently adapted/socially integrated beings of the same species.
CO2 scrubbers are apparently highly dependant on workload and temp and may last on their own for 1-10 hours. Maybe pair that with a pure O2 tank slowly giving off O2 in the right amountz and under ideal conditions you might end up with 24 hours
Hey there, been watching since your old Dead Space videos. If you want to get into the "Gaming" part of Roanoke Gaming, may I suggest the Hive from Destiny 2. Each member of the species is implanted with a parasite which develops a symbiotic relationship with the host. It would be interesting to hear your take on the biology of this alien species.
This movie plot reminds me so much of Greig Beck’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth series- those books are wild (I love them). Also- I just discovered this channel and I’ve been binge watching everything because it’s so amazing!!! 👏👏👏
I remembered this movie. I always thought the alteration ability of the symbiote (Even I figured that one out) was an interesting thing. The writers where pissed and ripped this movie to shreds as they pretty much changed a few details and got the movie the decent made. The one with the cave ladies. Apparently all the monster changes and such was the director. Both worked, both had their thing. For me the real intersting thing would have been to see what a series would have been following the releases of that symbiote into the world.
Got real hype for a moment thinking you were reviewing that parasite show. Eventually it'll happen I'm sure. Also kinda similar in plot to this ironically.
fun fact about the whole O2 tank going boom under the water. instead of exploding like it did when the valve broke off, you would instead get a really dangerous projectile. someone had one of those fall in a pool once, valve busted off and off it went crashing into the wall and making a hole. they found the damn thing around 15 meters away from the wall of the pool. so in short no it would not explode with a tap like that. instead it would shear off the valve, rocketing at the nearest wall.

This seems to be going for a realistic Vampire narrative spread by demons. I really like when writers get the idea to make mythical creatures into hypothetical real world organisms.
I watched this movie like three times and I always thought there was supposed to be some sort of Psychosis effect inside the cave that was slowly driving people insane. I feel like there was supposed to be a bigger supernatural aspect that was ultimately disregarded in the final cut.
I'd say that the symbiosis people want would be classified as something along the lines of 'Sapient Symbiosis'. Yes that's not a real thing, I know, but it's pretty much the only thing I can think of as a potential name for that type of classification, where the invading symbiote bonds but leaves conscious thought alone as the two(or more) organisms work together to survive.
That last of us 2 comment has my support bro lol, this remake stuff has me sad. I even rewatched your tau volantian video when I came across the giant corpses which was cool. Keep on keeping on bro.
I actually wonder, would it really destroy the human once it gets out? The monster form was only so that it could survive the cave system. So hypothetically would it really need to change the human that much once it is outside? I kind of want to see what happened after the end of the movie. Would it infect every human on Earth or would it just take over a select group that it could use; such as politicians or religious leaders? Would humans at large detect it or could it take over the world with no one noticing it? Would it completely take over the human and use the original consciousness only for memories or would it just sit back and relax in the human body as we go about our days providing it a safe shelter in the dominant species? Honestly speaking, if it is smart enough now to realize, leaving the human sentient might be advantageous. Perhaps just guiding the human or merging the two consciousnesses together into a new better blended sentience.
Just considering the ending in general I'm confused how it got to that point in the first place. As we see with Jack this thing doesn't just automatically take control of the host. While we don't get a clear time frame it seems like there was a solid day or two where he's been infected and yet other than his vitals going off, iris's getting weird, better hearing and some hallucinations he's still in control at the end of the movie when he takes himself out of the game. Yes he probably would have become one of them given a few more days just like those before them but that was because they were stuck in there without any chance to try and save themselves. The doctor on the other-hand got out waaaaaay before she started exhibiting signs of infection and clearly got back to civilization in the same time frame Jack was still in control. So as a doctor who understood this thing there's no way she didn't recognize she was infected at the outset of the earliest symptoms and let it get to the point it was fully in control. Why the hell wouldn't she immediately get herself seen by other doctors and be locked down so they could HOPEFULLY do something about it? What, because she might be turned into a lab rat if they can't figure it out? Because turning into a bat monster is like soooooo much better right? It just felt like the silliest twist at the end, especially since it came from the person in the group MOST likely to recognize what was happening and seek a cure.
Okay, the line "thank goodness no one in this party is named Amy" made me giggle so hard I had to stop the video. The Ruins is one of my favorite movies (guilty pleasure). I even went and read the book after watching the movie the first couple of times. Amy is trash 🤣😂🤣
3:20 lithium is used (peroxide form) as a scrubber for rebreathers on space craft and some submarines (either in entirety or as a supplicant), it's not only a base to strip CO2 out but also releases O2 upon carbonation. The record for staying submerged is ~145 hours, so the ability to stay submerged is equipment dependant, with enough scrubber / o2 / diluent, it's really just a question of 'how big are you tanks / how much does the can hold' that limits time under

The other comment kinda sucks ass, so i'm just passing by to tell you that YOUR comment is actually awesome :D I really hadn't seen in that way.
@@Noofter but also the truth most of the time is more simple then the superstitions imply and most if us don't want to grasp the boring reality

Very interesting
This was actually part of the biology of the Pak Protectors from Larry Niven's books as far back as 1973. The wikipedia page for them even directly links to the article that explains the concept of a moment arm.

Or just hear me out, the woman is just batshit crazy and see's the infection as a good thing.
Nah, man
I never took the "it wants out of the cave" line to imply that it actually was a thinking thing.
@@joshuagross3151 How much intent can you really ascribe to a seed or a microscopic parasite though?
A seed? Bro where
I guess seeds are similar
the "it wants out" line is probably more anthropomorphizing than the symbiote actually giving two shits about where it is. she wanted to get out of the cave, so her brain things she would want to leave the cave, but the "monsters" live there, it's their home, they are comfortable in the cave.
8:45 Humans can feel dampness and moisture through breathing, and wet environments do have a different scent than dry ones, thats probably what was implied there

@@ace_of_cups4096 Right. A few times at work I’ll get a scent like I’m next to a pool. 10 minutes later it’s storming

Considering the thing starts morphing anatomy to the conditions of the cave, it could simply be that the woman's body is being changed, but differently, and that the conditions outside the cave are more beneficial to the symbiosis (perhaps even changing how it ended up morphing her, as the conditions involved in the cave aren't causing it to need to change as much to the bat form, possibly due to more food/warmth/light.)
Her interpretations of said changes then could be, that the thing wanted the current environment, and not the old, as the changes are rewarding her (thru pleasure or thru changes in her feelings of "wants" such as maybe warmth, or drier environments, or even light.) In her current "not fully functioning right mentally" state, she could interpret the things "wanting out of the cave environment" from just what she's getting positive feedback from (avoiding cold and moist areas, low lighting, and more wanting to be around large amounts of "potential hosts" thru things like smell or sound cues.) If every time she's in different conditions that she interprets as the "cave" she's being un-rewarded with some pleasure or drive to remain there, it'd make sense that its less the parasite gaining sentience thru her, and more it just changing the hosts needs and wants to suit it and her just thinking it is taking full control (though technically i suppose it still is, just more carrot and the stick then turning into carpenters the thing).

Lithium is a digestive metal used to alter moods and calm the mind helping with decompression sickness.
Gas mixes is usually helium
@@maccurtis730 No that, rebreathers use metal oxides like calcium oxide to capture co2 by chemical reaction CaO + CO2 -> CaCO3, this allows the air to be rebreathed afther adding some oxigen becase normal exaled air is still 15% oxigen. Lithium superoxide works in a similar way but also releases oxigen, it also produces hydrogen when in contact with water and gets very hot. It has already been use in life suport for spacecapsules.

Tldr that’s not the correct breathing apparatus for them to be able to talk

fun fact about the whole O2 tank going boom under the water. instead of exploding like it did when the valve broke off, you would instead get a really dangerous projectile. someone had one of those fall in a pool once, valve busted off and off it went crashing into the wall and making a hole. they found the damn thing around 15 meters away from the wall of the pool. so in short no it would not explode with a tap like that. instead it would shear off the valve, rocketing at the nearest wall.

Hey Roanoke, could you take a look at the movie Ginger Snaps? I want to know how a virus could change the body from simian to lycanthrope and if that's even possible.
You can watch the Dog Soldiers video for what you’re lookin for
@@symphoa5050 I actually did. Though that movie seems to hand out of different type of virus. Ginger Snaps the transformation is permanent, and the creature seems to be rooted a little more in the realm of realism than mythology.
@@skorpioartz9267 I've had this movie downloaded on my old laptop for over a decade and never watched it. You might have decided what I watch later. Didn't even know it had to do with werewolves lol.
@@SirTorcharite which one Ginger Snaps or dog soldiers? Cuz if you're talking about Ginger Snaps it's actually a really good movie. Though it does have its own flaws, not the biggest fan of the pot dealer with a van. He tends to contradict himself, you'll know what I mean when you see the movie.
@@skorpioartz9267 Yeah Ginger Snaps but ha ok I'll keep an ear out for hypocrisy when stoners are on screen lol
Attempt number, like 4, of getting Roanoke to cover the game Days Gone, it’s literally perfect
I didn't know I wanted to see someone make a version of Charlie's Angels where they fight cave monsters until I saw this video, so thanks for that I guess.
Man I used to LOVE this movie when I was younger.
Great stuff. Thanks for the great video
Since you subtly mentioned predators hidden/camouflaged as a cloud, you should do a video on Nope and the anatomy the alien in it! It would be great to see what you think of it.
That was my first thought as well. XD
THANK YOU ROANOKE, I hope you liked the reccomendation on a movie/video. Its a movie i enjoyed. And i absolutly loved the refrences you made, ill never see this movie the same again
Would liked to have seen a sequel to The Cave even just in writing.
Always look forward to these
I tend to get anxious at night and can't sleep and have these videos playing through the night
thank you Roanoke!
This seems to be going for a realistic Vampire narrative spread by demons. I really like when writers get the idea to make mythical creatures into hypothetical real world organisms.
3:38 I love your briefing here. Fukken glorious XD
I watched this movie like three times and I always thought there was supposed to be some sort of Psychosis effect inside the cave that was slowly driving people insane.
I feel like there was supposed to be a bigger supernatural aspect that was ultimately disregarded in the final cut.
Great vid! I forgot all about this flick… would have loved to see much more of those creatures!
As usual, the most unrealistic aspect of this movie is how good looking all the scientists are.
Man this is the strangest iteration of Charlie's Angels i've seen but i'm down with it, took the Angels part in a very unique direction
28:38 finally my reading of parasite eve came in handy for I DID know this!
I feel like it doesn't specifically help you live in a cave I think it helps you survive in the specific environment that you are currently living in
That last of us 2 comment has my support bro lol, this remake stuff has me sad. Also I’ve never stopped watching since your early days of necromorphs and gears, I was the guy that suggested Ragers so often. I suggested others but realized I was being kinda pushy, you never got to my other suggestions but it’s been an honor to watch you cover these other topics and move to movies and horror and all sorts of other cool stuff. I’ll keep watching until you or I die of old age I reckon. Also unrelated but I finally beat Gears 5, and the last 2 dead space games, I’m not sure why I put it off so long considering how much I enjoyed watching your lore on them all. I even rewatched your tau volantian video when I came across the giant corpses which was cool. Keep on keeping on bro.
Could you do the crazy blind pterosaur-bat-pirhana creatures from The Silence? That'd be a fun one.
I watched this movie last night with memories of watching your video a year ago. Thank you for the chance to nerd out!😊
I actually wonder, would it really destroy the human once it gets out?
Wow, I discovered you channel last week and went looking for a video on this movie, now its here!
The record for staying submerged is ~145 hours, so the ability to stay submerged is equipment dependant, with enough scrubber / o2 / diluent, it's really just a question of 'how big are you tanks / how much does the can hold' that limits time under
The Cave has always been an underrated genre gem.
This was a really cool breakdown of the closed evolution of Charlie's Angels :D
I have sooo many movie recommendations to give should I write them down on comment hence the discord isnt available for recommendations
Also therere far too many entirely isolated places throughout the planet like lake vostok and all other subterrenean river lake systems throghout the antartica continent they represent the space ice ocean moons in a perfect manner
"Thank God no one is named Amy in this group." Best comment of the entire video. Good job, Roanoke.
first?
At least comment something better than first but ye your first

If getting infuriated at people who can't tell the difference between a symbiotic and a parasitic relationship (like my ex; I'M LOOKING AT YOU, ALEX!) makes me a nerd, then I don't want to be normal.
