To some people getting up at 4:30 to workout, to then do something else physical like surfing, to then do something else extremely physical like jiu jitsu is pure hell.

You earned your good life. Enjoy it.
Not only did he earn it, but he continues to earn it. He runs a bunch of businesses (podcast, BJJ, supplements, apparel, consultant) which is more work than most people.

Discipline = Freedom
People who have never served in the military don’t realize how little we get paid, and for most of us that’s not the reason why we join. In 1990 as a corporal, I grossed $12k that year! But when I got out I busted my butt and was able to retire at 52 years old. So just like Jocko says, “discipline = freedom!”
Needed this today.
Sometimes I feel guilty about the freedoms I have now, but think back to the crappy small “cottage” in Norfolk, VA, also on Navy pay. Could barely afford rent.
Still grinding now and will keep going.

He killed foreign people in foreign countries for decades. It is called war of aggression and in a normal world would be a crime. But we live in a world ruled by Hollywood and US media.

Well oiled, disciplined teams work the best. You get people of honour and integrity - the leader is critical in pulling it all together and being that example and holding folk to account.
Why do I always keep coming back to that serial liar Chris Kyle when I hear old Jocko talking. Kyle had zero integrity - lied and through Jesse Ventura under the bus. Jocko bottled calling him out and dealing with him.

He does podcasts that are typically a couple of hours in length and seems to like having his talking points and other notes printed on a couple of sheets of paper. I doubt he had the entire story printed there.
