I doubt you're ever going to read this, but thank you so much for this! I am a college freshman in Calc I and I took Calc in high school but have forgotten a good chunk of it, especially logs and exponential functions, which we learned after going remote because of the coronavirus. I was very confused upon relearning the derivatives of logs and e and didn't find my school's recorded lectures to be much help. This video made me understand what to do completely! @@sanopann1896 It was to simplify the answer. Since there was a fraction in the numerator, he multiplied top and bottom by x to get rid of the fraction "1/x"

@@sanopann1896 hey i hope you got help w this, but basically he wants to simplify it, & there's this thing with fractions where you can multiply the top and bottom by anything (as long as you multiply the same thing in the top and bottom, it doesn't change it at all. it's like multiplying by 1/1). so you can choose something to conveniently make the fraction easier to work with, like this. when you do [(1/x)*(x/1)] you end up with 1*x/x*1... simplifies to x/x, or 1 :) so then the whole problem is easier to manage

i've been trying to figure this out for 2 years and this is the only video i've come across that has been clear enough for me to understand properly.
As extremely important as it is to understand the process and not rely too heavily on formula, can we all just give a hats off to those hard-working mathematicians from centuries ago that went through all of the pain and trial-and-error to build these formula for people that don't want to bother?
They were doing it out of fun, not out of necessity/getting grades like us. They were not miserable like us

@sano pann because it's variable raised to a constant, the derivative of x^2 is 2x. The derivatives of 2^x is (2^x)(1)ln2

I've been trying to teach myself calculus from a textbook, but it was confusing and hard to understand. These videos are the best supplement I've found! After reading a chapter, watching the related video, then reading the chapter again everything is clear.
Yeah if it is your first time learning Calculus, only using a textbook can be a bit difficult. If you ever have any specific questions as you go though the textbook, I would be happy to answer any of them for you!
