Windows XP is truly an iconic piece of the computing world. Support for XP may have ended nearly a decade ago, but its memory lives on as one of the greatest operating systems of all time.
Windows XP is like a long lost friend... with whom you have great memories. Nostalgia kicks in, yet you stare at the person (XP in this case) with unfamiliar eyes. Wondering why you departed from each others life in the first place. It's a strange feeling. You are happy to see them (XP in this case) but still it's not ''like it used to be". Now you're left with this nostalgia hurts.
It’s more like an old best friend that you forgot about , then one day the person reappears...tears run down your eyes, you greet each other just like the old days.
I wonder how many people realize the original was mono and no official stereo version was ever made. This is amazing as in my life I never thought I would hear this track with true L/R separation. Great job.
God this a great song. Listening to this with my 2002 Klipsch Promedia 2.1 subwoofers... it takes me back. I remember doing nuke-n-paves and sitting in the startup screen for an hour just ramming to this song. (They still make that speaker system... best thing for computers and audiophiles on a budget). Nothing beat listening to the chant at 100dB in a full room. God this is good. Thank you.
Windows XP changed the entire computing world and many of its features are seen and heard today. The startup sound if you have windows 11 listen close to it and you can faintly hear how it originated from the xp startup sound. Every startup sound from xp on was a remix of itself.
The fact this OS is still in use 19 years later is remarkable, and the UI is still competitive and doesn't look that dated. The shitbox that is windows 10 will never compete.
I've never heard this song play as intended because I always installed XP on a freshly wiped hard drive back as a kid, however since I loved to tinker around with files I quickly began listening to this in between sessions of SRB2 1.09, the Gens emulator, Zoo Tycoon, and other random assorted XP and compatible 98 games. Things felt truly magical back then, I had my own little electric box to magically simulate and create worlds with, and despite hearing stories about people having trouble on the technical side I actually enjoyed tinkering around with the hardware and occasionally repairing parts. If anything, it made the experience even more magical for me since it allowed me to better understand how my magic game box worked. RIP Windows XP 2001-2014 You'll always have a place in my CD spindle, copying fresh installs to this very day.
The fact that I got to use windows xp but didn't get to hear it in the meantime makes me feel guilty for missing a part of my childhood but I can't blame myself that much as I was too young to download windows despite being user friendly. The more listen I listen to this, the sadder I feel. Sooner or later, I'll be 24 and windows xp will be 23. Mark your calendar guys.
this is the song you hear after you die
woah
Just like the author of the track, Stan Le Pard does, who is unfortunately no longer between us.
This is the song i hear before i get born as well

This was like living your best dream in front of a computer screen.

By the way, for anyone that wanted to know, the original Bill Brown worked with Emmy-award winning sound designer Tom Ozanich to create the audio.
