No one uses the rpi as a desktop pc, but as a server or for controlling other electronics. Of course the gpu is gonna be bad if the device isn't designed for Desktop usage (Even though the RPI5 GPU got a massive upgrade compared to RPI4 with much higher clock speed and more execution engines), because for non-graphical tasks GPUs aren't used that often. What do you expect from a 60$ device with a smartphone SoC?
@@RandomTeq All of the PI's own marketing is about using it for projects not as a desktop, its only dumb youtubers like you that use inappropriately and then slag it off.
i see you purchased a nice faraday cage. if you want wifi you better stick to a plastic case. edit: thx for the fav. if you want video acceleration use chrome. firefox doesn't have gpu acceleration still. if you want a more windows like environement . the default desktop is very bad indeed you should install kde instead.
Spot on! Chromium, which is a pre-installed version of Chrome for Rasbian, worked a lot better. You still get dropped frames at high resolution on UA-cam, but it's watchable. Installing Google Chrome is a bit more involved. Nevertheless, chromium works great. Thanks for tuning in and for the advice, much appreciated.
I've had a similar experience.. and tbfah: RpiOs is pretty awful. Linux is a bit better but Armbian is the distro you should actually try here. Works fine for me to run a small Workstation for prepping & slicing prints with Cura. It even runs FreeCAD and VS just fine but I prefer to avoid Firefox in fav. of Chrome/Chromium.
I disagree - even a pi zero can be useful with a GUI OS for some applications. I think the OP is getting bottlenecks somewhere though - the Pi 5 is the best Pi we've ever had and can handle a GUI OS without issue - I'd suggest the OP use without that metal case - 1080p YT should work perfect and 4K is useavle.
Fair Post Random Teq. Many won't like it, but you're telling the ugly truth some people just don't want to hear. the Pi does seem to be marketed as fully capable to work as a basic desk top, but it sounds like it's really more for specific specialty dedicated things .. Good to know Thx

You don't actually need the official Power supply, just one that can deliver as much current as the board needs
if you want to run linux, just do so on a pc or laptop, the raspberry pi os just does not work well for everyday computing
Thanks Tony, it's not immediately obvious until you actually try it.

Yup! 😊
I went for the looks and thought it would end up on my desk.
@@RandomTeq i edited my message with a few more stuff so you'll have to fav again maybe, hope it will be useful.
I appreciate your contribution, I will give it a try and report back as soon as I can.

@@RandomTeq yea i meant the build in chromium sorry not chrome since it doesn't have a arm version.

Thanks, Thomas...
A commenter did mention the Chromium browser, and it actually worked much better than Mozilla.
How is Linux better than RpiOS? That doesnt make any sense
Buying a raspberry pi to use as a desktop is beyond dumb, if you need a desktop PC buy a desktop PC.
It has an OS that's designed to work as a desktop.

I appreciate you, I'm getting some push backs for my opinion, and I can agree with your take.
