A chap can never have too many tents! You didn't mention packs, so are we to assume that in the spirit of pure minimalism , that you just bundle up all your gear in a blanket, tie it up with a spare shoe lace and carry it on the end of a stick, Tom Sawyer style? Or do you have so many ru-sacs that you are embarassed by the sheer quantity and are too ashamed to quote the actual number? Come on now don't be shy, how many?!

The X2 pump is great. I have had mine for about 10 months and am really happy with it. I use a 3mm acoustic foam mat under my thermarest as it helps stop my mat sliding around.

Seen loads of reviews, all saying really good. (Have been studying loads of tents) Looking forward to getting out in it. Also have a light tour mat to try. (and flex tail) I use an Amazon foil mat under my sleep mat, extra thermal layer and stops any slipping. Lightweight and cheap, but a bit bulky. I like the idea of stitching the inner pockets to make them useable. Maybe seamseal the fly at some point if it needs it. Tempted on doubling up the guy lines and poles for adverse weather. Thanks
Hilleberg Akto. Enough space to cook in, outer tent comes all the way to the ground so no problem cooking when it's blowing a gale outside. For the 'lazy' trips, Hilleberg Nallo GT. Same reasons as for the Akto but with more space.

I was out in my Helm 2 Compact over on the Norfolk coast Saturday, performed great in some pretty strong gusts. I have a Cloud Peak 2, OEX Phoxx 2v2 and the Cloud Up 2 but the Helm is the go to for build quality and if you can get one on sale great value for money
Love my Helm 2. A friend has the Naturehike cloud peak 2, seeing the two of them side by side the quality of the Helm is obvious. For the money it's fantastic in my opinion.
Hi Ben I removed both inner mesh pockets as they just get in the way, if you put things in them it makes the inner sag worse too. I bought this as a two person tent which it is but a bit too cramped for comfort, I then bought a Natuehike Mongar II forest green model, an exellent two person tent for 3 seasons
I have the same tent, and I totally agree with you on everything you said. Great tent, easy to pitch and carry with the short poles. I hope someone can share some tips in regards the loose inner, is the only thing that annoys me a little. A big heavy for long trips, but so far I've only used for overnights and it works wanders. I've spent 180 nights in my helm 2, pitching every day. Great tent. I sleep in the middle to avoid the sag. The main blue pole has worn through it's sleeve, fabric is becoming bleached and brass eyes looking tired. I stitched the centre of the pockets to make them useful. The ground sheet is now totally porous, always been on top of a protector too. Flysheet still waterproof from rain above but water comes in from below in serious weather or drips down the door tieback toggles, these toggles like to let go of the door with no warning, serious danger when the stove is roaring away. One handed door zip and buckle operation is impossible, annoying when your hands are full, its hissing down or you're being pursued by a cloud if mosquitoes. In really hot insect ridden climates the air in the tent is stationary when doors are closed, you'll either cook to death or become mumified by loss of fluids.
Nice video . I've found my perfect man tent for 2 people . my son and I do multi day hikes .so we need light weight and loads of space for wet days . Its the naturehike opalus 2 .the porch is so big I can lie down in there and it only weighs 2kg . I guessed only down side is finding a spot big enough for it .but I've not struggled so far . Build quality etc is spot on .
I bought my first motorbike in 35 years back in August, I can`t wait to get out camping on it ! Taking the Mrs to Northern Ireland for a few days in June, staying above a pub ! I`ll be out on it wild camping as soon as the weather gets a bit warmer 😀😀
Bought the Helm 1 compact last summer; after seeing your review. It's not the lightest tent out there, but for the price (paid £125 for mine) it's a sturdy "rock" of a tent. Have to admit that the space inside is a little restricted, but I tend to sleep with the door open anyway; so not so bad. I have lighter tents, and have bigger tents; but I think, despite its compromises, it's the best of the bunch..in my humble opinion. Enjoyed this post! I'm more of a fair weather camper, and this has whetted my appetite for getting out again in the spring. Thanks for the post!
I had the helm 3 compact. Loads of room and sturdy but had issues with the zips. The pumps are great pal. Try using a foil mat in the winter game changer. Wet gooch 😂 brilliant 👏
Hi Ben. Great video. I use the Vango Banshee, purely because I got it second hand and at the time, it was the tent everyone was raving about. I do like and trust it and although it is not purfect, it does the job. If I was starting from scratch I would definitely look at the Helm. Although I'm seriously considering savings in for a Hilleburg Akto.

Good Review. I just bought this tent a few days ago,yet to test it. I do a lot of wild camping . As for other equipment, I’m a bit Old School being as I’m a Army veteran now at 59. So I still use a basic military sleep mat, so no need for noisy air pumps,nor seeing stars when blowing these modern matts up..lol . As for a pillow,I prefer a very low flat as possible one, so I got a High Gear basic one (£8) and again no need for blowing up,and it compresses really small. Whilst this tent looks great for a few nights wild camping, I wouldn’t use it due to weight,to do the likes of the south west coastal path with it. I’m doing it this year but still looking for a lightweight tent that doesn’t break the bank..
Watch out for aldis tents,I got one last year after watching some reviews.they sold them off about Sept,got it for 8 quid. Ally poles,decent size,think 1.7 kg.ive had it up but not used it and I'd say a great 3 seasons tent
Nice relaxing camp mate I’m sure? The 2 reasons I bought the Terranova Pioneer2 over the Helm2 was a 300g light and packs a bit smaller, but also the inner has so many more points of attachment to reduce that sag. That said the helm2 is way better value. Keep that gooch dry mate
I have two Crux tents which suit me as best compromise. I generally use my Crux Assault and keep my Crux Shadow if there’s two of us. My Z-Pack triplex is a huge disappointment and rarely gets used.
The best 3 man tent which is really a spacious 2 man is without doubt is the robens lodge 3 pro if you can find as they stopping making them. Just done a three nighter in howling ing and slashing rain but performed without any issue and no real flapping
re: saggy flaps, I remember a lanshan mod, he put some thin shockcord down the inner corner (only the bottom half methinks). I totally got rid of the ugly flaps (stop now). He also used a clothes peg to hold back the outer door, and the inner door (you could then use the pocket provided for this for your moisturiser)
I was going to be critical of you, disturbing the silence with that air pump. Then I realised I am guilty as I use my electric toothbrush when I wild camp!
Hi ben, love your channel! About your pillow: you did't use it backwards, you used it correctly. Thick part low in the neck. Don't know why flextail promotes it the other way round...
I was in the market for a new 2 man tent . I was willing to spend big ! Looking at Terra Nova , Hilleberg, and some other 4 seasons tent . Now niggles appear in every tent on the market! It’s compromise, price , use , weight, endurance. The Helm 2 I bought has some very small niggles . For the price , it’s absolutely amazing. Just my opinion 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

Almost. Not sure. But I'm really thinking that I'm going tarp way more. Blowing a hoolie up here. Pithing it down. It did get some sun early on, about 10 am. Ant's been getting happy on his Bobcat 1. Local lad.
I’ve got the Compact version. It’s a super little tent. It’s a tad heavy, and the inner really does sag. I’d really appreciate any tips on solving the sag, because it’s the only thing that really bothers me about it. My partner has a naturehike mongar, which is superb, just not as robust imho.
Ben , with regard to your niggles with the Helm, You could try Shaun Iverson @ Northen Outdoors, his work is really good, He modifies Lavvus, but does tent repairs & other stuff, worth a try

I've got a mountain equipment back country 2 shortly after it was discontinued yrs ago for £110 normal price was around 380ish, it's really good has plenty of space tho not the lightest at 2.8kg, two very decent sized areas at each doorway, has stood upto high winds as it's what it's meant for and coped with a few inches of snow, been looking for something lighter but not seen anything as yet that's as good at a reasonable price as they've all had compromises in one way or another so sticking with it till the day comes i find something else, tempted to get a Coleman cobra 3 for camping via my motorbike for the extra room with all the bike gear
Wife and I own a helm 3, think I said to you when you got your 2: cut the mesh pockets out or they end up in your gob. Don't think ours has double zips though, I like they've done that. All in all, I'd recommend either the one or two to anyone with a few quid just starting (but who's camped before). If someone's never camped, I'd suggest a cheapo sub ton jobber and they go in summer.
Got this tent after watching your review and a few others. Was gonna get the cloud peak but like the idea of buying UK made tent. Its a bit heavier than I thought. Not used it yet.
Helm Compact 2 is made in China. I liked the idea of a UK made tent. It was only when I packed it away after it's first use that I saw the made in China label. Terra Nova confirmed that it's only their more expensive tents that are made in UK. I was disappointed. A good tent, so far, but like you, it was thinking it was made here that was one of the main reasons for choosing the tent.
I think it's a common thing with the wild country tents that the inners seem a little loose like you say very minor thing but I'm sure there's a work round or mod for it
@DaleyOutdoors I thought the same with my helm one not very bad but if your pitch isn't great it makes it worse you could pull the toggle through the eyelet and keep doin it again and again in the spots you'd like it tighter.i have tried it when I last.took down my tent and my drunk.buddy slept.in my tent the time before nit and snagged the zip.in the same.spot.i could of cried as I had to save for a few.months to buy it lesson learned never leave anyone use your tent ⛺️
I've got the Helm 2 (non-Compact version). I had a NatureHike Mongar and Jack Wolfskin Gossamer before. The Mongar shape was great but I picked the grey which I quickly went off. The Jack Wolfskin was an 'end entry' tunnel tent and I quickly realised it was impractical for my size (bit of a contortionist to get in and out of). The Helm 2 looks great and is by far the easiest tent to put up plus its SOLID. Great colour, Wild Country/Terra Nova have a really good rep. Its gets most of it right and I enjoy using it. I've just won a prize on the Paul Messner raffle (MSR Freelite 2) so its much lighter. Its going to be interesting pitting it against the Helm 2.
I took this tent for its first trip this week! I found the inside pockets really really annoying. They could do with some Velcro to keep them in place - they are very loose, even without weight in them
Looks like the Bobcat at only £50 is winning so far this year after watching several wild camping fails recently! l😂 I don't think it's about money, it's structure, user knowledge and mother natures luck! 😉
I’ve had all of those and would go with the Helm 2 if you can find one. I think it’s better made than the others, stronger, and comes with a decent warranty. All depends what kind(s) of camping you’ll be doing really.
No! 😂 I’m disappointed with my Wild Country Zephyros. I wish I had held onto my Lanshan 2 🧐 I’ll continue with it for a while and may change my mind. I do like the look of the Helm. It looks spacious and durable.
Hi mate, I’m thinking about buying the helm2 but the only thing butting me off is the sagging inner, did you find a solution for thing? Or any mods? Literally the only thing putting me off. If not it’s got to be the pioneer2 have you had any interaction with the pioneer? Thanks
I haven’t had it out again since this camp mate (out in if tomorrow). I’ve seen the pioneer, it looks decent but I think the roof/hat/cap thing would annoy me 😆

The pump is great, got the model which also has a light on which is perfect. I don't think there'll ever be a perfect tent just the best you can find for your criteria or preference at a given time.
The only thing I can think of with the sagging is the old pebble and paracord to pull it out, but who wants to be doing extra work like that when pitching. Bit of a shame that.
Oooh what a question 🤣 erm… Helm 2 is stronger. Taiji is lighter. I think the Taiji is more expensive now too. Decent guarantee with the Helm. Both great tents though. Not a very helpful answer 🤣
I dont want to sound stupid, but i want a good knife for my camps but always been paranoid about the lagalities of it as being in the UK, ive heard stories of innocent people being charged for having a knife whilst camping and i dont want that to happen to me, is that knife you had safe to use in the UK? I mean safe from authorities whilst I'm camping with jt
I only use one tent now for general camping. Got 3 now, one for each of the kids. Had some serious weather on them. Euro hike DLX3. Wouldn’t use anything else now.
@@DaleyOutdoors Tamar 2 is okay. My daughter has that one too. Try the DLX. Huge porch, huge living space. We have been on long two week camps and they have never let us down. They do a night one now with keeps the light out. It’s brilliant.

I've had the same exact thing happen to my frogtogs rain pants. It's a sad thing really cuz it's so lightweight it's perfect for hiking but it's just extremely flimsy. In the end I had to go with a way heavier but very tanky rainsuit made for fishermen
There isnt a perfect tent, unless its sub 1Kg, 3 poles semi geodesic outer pitch, double porch and 2 doors, with mesh secondaries, can handle 90mph winds.

2:57 Guide from Terra Nova is that you should pitch in outside eyelet. Possibly this could make the vestibule a little bit sagier that it should.

I usually take a newspaper with me. One sheet under my mat stops it slipping and in my mind adds a bit of warmth.
....it also soaks up a bit of condensation....in my mind

I have one of these pumps, mine is with the light. Very handy and saves me from collapsing out of breath ;) As you said, great for deflating!

The best 3 man tent which is really a spacious 2 man is without doubt is the robens lodge 3 pro if you can find as they stopping making them. Just done a three nighter in howling ing and slashing rain but performed without any issue and no real flapping
re: saggy flaps, I remember a lanshan mod, he put some thin shockcord down the inner corner (only the bottom half methinks). I totally got rid of the ugly flaps (stop now). He also used a clothes peg to hold back the outer door, and the inner door (you could then use the pocket provided for this for your moisturiser)
I’ve heard great things about the flextail as a side sleeper as well very interested.

I was in the market for a new 2 man tent . I was willing to spend big ! Looking at Terra Nova , Hilleberg, and some other 4 seasons tent . Now niggles appear in every tent on the market! It’s compromise, price , use , weight, endurance. The Helm 2 I bought has some very small niggles . For the price , it’s absolutely amazing. Just my opinion 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

I’ve got the Compact version. It’s a super little tent. It’s a tad heavy, and the inner really does sag. I’d really appreciate any tips on solving the sag, because it’s the only thing that really bothers me about it. My partner has a naturehike mongar, which is superb, just not as robust imho.
Ben , with regard to your niggles with the Helm, You could try Shaun Iverson @ Northen Outdoors, his work is really good, He modifies Lavvus, but does tent repairs & other stuff, worth a try

I've got a mountain equipment back country 2 shortly after it was discontinued yrs ago for £110 normal price was around 380ish, it's really good has plenty of space tho not the lightest at 2.8kg, two very decent sized areas at each doorway, has stood upto high winds as it's what it's meant for and coped with a few inches of snow, been looking for something lighter but not seen anything as yet that's as good at a reasonable price as they've all had compromises in one way or another so sticking with it till the day comes i find something else, tempted to get a Coleman cobra 3 for camping via my motorbike for the extra room with all the bike gear

Wife and I own a helm 3, think I said to you when you got your 2: cut the mesh pockets out or they end up in your gob.
Don't think ours has double zips though, I like they've done that.
All in all, I'd recommend either the one or two to anyone with a few quid just starting (but who's camped before). If someone's never camped, I'd suggest a cheapo sub ton jobber and they go in summer.
They’re great tents all in all. I found putting stuff in the pockets helps to hold the inner out a bit 👍

Got this tent after watching your review and a few others. Was gonna get the cloud peak but like the idea of buying UK made tent. Its a bit heavier than I thought. Not used it yet.
Same weight as the cloud peak I think but better made and with a decent warranty 👍
Helm Compact 2 is made in China. I liked the idea of a UK made tent. It was only when I packed it away after it's first use that I saw the made in China label. Terra Nova confirmed that it's only their more expensive tents that are made in UK.
I was disappointed. A good tent, so far, but like you, it was thinking it was made here that was one of the main reasons for choosing the tent.

I think it's a common thing with the wild country tents that the inners seem a little loose like you say very minor thing but I'm sure there's a work round or mod for it

@DaleyOutdoors I thought the same with my helm one not very bad but if your pitch isn't great it makes it worse you could pull the toggle through the eyelet and keep doin it again and again in the spots you'd like it tighter.i have tried it when I last.took down my tent and my drunk.buddy slept.in my tent the time before nit and snagged the zip.in the same.spot.i could of cried as I had to save for a few.months to buy it lesson learned never leave anyone use your tent ⛺️
Saggy inner. Would some strategically placed self adhesive velcro tape ( an equally long solution to go along with the tent name) solve the issue?
I've got the Helm 2 (non-Compact version). I had a NatureHike Mongar and Jack Wolfskin Gossamer before. The Mongar shape was great but I picked the grey which I quickly went off. The Jack Wolfskin was an 'end entry' tunnel tent and I quickly realised it was impractical for my size (bit of a contortionist to get in and out of). The Helm 2 looks great and is by far the easiest tent to put up plus its SOLID. Great colour, Wild Country/Terra Nova have a really good rep. Its gets most of it right and I enjoy using it. I've just won a prize on the Paul Messner raffle (MSR Freelite 2) so its much lighter. Its going to be interesting pitting it against the Helm 2.

I took this tent for its first trip this week! I found the inside pockets really really annoying. They could do with some Velcro to keep them in place - they are very loose, even without weight in them

I’ve had all of those and would go with the Helm 2 if you can find one. I think it’s better made than the others, stronger, and comes with a decent warranty. All depends what kind(s) of camping you’ll be doing really.

I haven’t had it out again since this camp mate (out in if tomorrow). I’ve seen the pioneer, it looks decent but I think the roof/hat/cap thing would annoy me 😆

The pump is great, got the model which also has a light on which is perfect. I don't think there'll ever be a perfect tent just the best you can find for your criteria or preference at a given time.

The only thing I can think of with the sagging is the old pebble and paracord to pull it out, but who wants to be doing extra work like that when pitching. Bit of a shame that.

Oooh what a question 🤣 erm… Helm 2 is stronger. Taiji is lighter. I think the Taiji is more expensive now too. Decent guarantee with the Helm. Both great tents though. Not a very helpful answer 🤣

I dont want to sound stupid, but i want a good knife for my camps but always been paranoid about the lagalities of it as being in the UK, ive heard stories of innocent people being charged for having a knife whilst camping and i dont want that to happen to me, is that knife you had safe to use in the UK? Yes, it has a blade less than 3 inches, and I was using it on private land.

I only use one tent now for general camping. Got 3 now, one for each of the kids. Had some serious weather on them. Euro hike DLX3. Wouldn’t use anything else now.

@@DaleyOutdoors Tamar 2 is okay. My daughter has that one too. Try the DLX. Huge porch, huge living space. We have been on long two week camps and they have never let us down. They do a night one now with keeps the light out. It’s brilliant.

Looks the same as the Mountain Warehouse tent and others. For me it doesn’t knock anything anywhere if I can’t sit up in it.
Voyager is 2man 1m high ? More than most tents with higher waterproof look at the specs for the price wow

The inner sagging on that tent is terrible. Love my Nemo dagger osmo 2p...I can have it up in 3 minutes

Just to bloody heavy rather take my old helm 1 as I walk distances.
I've had the same exact thing happen to my frogtogs rain pants. It's a sad thing really cuz it's so lightweight it's perfect for hiking but it's just extremely flimsy.
In the end I had to go with a way heavier but very tanky rainsuit made for fishermen
There isnt a perfect tent, unless its sub 1Kg, 3 poles semi geodesic outer pitch, double porch and 2 doors, with mesh secondaries, can handle 90mph winds.
