  • Here's how I trellis my beans. I've also used this method in the past on a smaller scale to trellis cucumbers and it works fine.

    This is exactly what I was looking for. I love your mannerism in this video. You come across very pleasant and easy going. Thanks for sharing.

    I think this is one of the most effective ways to trellis and I love the price point! I use this method often.

    That sure is pretty. Even with no beans on it. This will be my first time doing pole beans outside. Trying the Fortex like I had in the GH. I haven't put the trellis up yet, still waiting to see how many beans come up. But if mine looks like yours, you'll know where I got the idea. :-)

    Thanks, Susan. I've been using wooden poles and it has gotten to be a big pain each year and searched to see if anyone uses String instead. I really miss seeing your videos show up on my feed.

    Thank you so much for your quick response. I can't wait to start going through your video's, they all look very interesting. I want to start canning food, but really not sure where to start. I live in rural central Florida. It is already HOT.

    last gardening season I co-mingled my tomato cages and cucumber crops. that didnt work as well as it sounded like it would in theory. I had too many oversized cucumbers because they could hide inside of the cages. But I threw the huge ones into a pile and they are growing volunteers so I can transplant this year.

    How did you set your posts?

    • @imstillworkin
      @imstillworkin  4 роки тому

      I just dug the holes and put the posts in there. In my soil that held up fine, in other soils you might need to concrete in the posts.

    Kentucky Wonders are the only beans I grow. I save the seeds from the best looking beans and replant the next year.

    How far apart do you space each pole bean plant?? Or seed? It's all new to me.

  • @MrMunchiemo

    Those Kentucky Wonders beans do you just snap them and cook them or do you have to remove the string part off the bean before your eat them?

  • @AlysonsWonderland
    @AlysonsWonderland 11 років тому

    This may be a silly question, but could you use the wire in place of the string to make it more heavy duty? So the wire would be going both vertically and horizontally. Or will that hurt the plants?

    try case knife beans. they cook up nice and very easy to string. good for canning and freezing.

    I like that technique, perfect for the type of garden I have. I suspect I'll even go cheaper, cut my own poles out of the woods.

    All my kin were city folks and knew nothing about any of this stuff. My one set of grandparents didn't even have a back yard. Their house was on a corner on a hill and my grandfather put a 3 car garage attached to the house for his business and their yard was concrete and with tar stripes. I've always been the odd ball in may ways and still am according to my family. Oh well it could always be worse. Your garden is impressive.

    I'd be so tempted to run a clothesline across the top of those posts :-) it would work for a while at least until the beans grew up ...LOL... Plus the laundry would make sure the beans got watered

    That trellis is a thing of beauty. Great work. I have only grown bush beans but I did buy some Kentucky Wonder Seeds thinking maybe I would try it out one day. Is there an advantage to pole beans over bush beans?

    Oh m How great is this. I have been contiplating getting cattle fence. But I think this is a fantastic idea. What kind of a butter bean do you grow? I have been wondering which one to buy, We have rain here today. But, hope to get potatoes in tommorrow,yes with the hand I am a bit behind. I have peas to plant also. We are still having the ocassional 34-38 nights. Strawberries we have been covering on those nights. Blueberries are coming. I think the fruit is gonna be sweeeet with the frosts.

    I have been using concrete reinforcement wire for a fence for my poll beans and it makes grate cages for my tomato plants too, since 1978. I thought you might like to try it. God Bless, Kenny
