I'm gonna laugh myself saying:
With the RTX 40 series being launched at the time when the PS5 & Xbox Series X has taken over the console gaming market, the RTX 4050 has come a very long way to be that very competent for an entry-level GPU to really match up with it's bigger brothers, such as RTX 4060.
When comparing to GTX 1050M with games that were launched the same year as that GPU (NFS: Payback, DOOM 2016, Dying Light, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Forza Horizon 3, etc..........), they average around 30-40 FPS at max settings & native resolution.
While RTX 4050 with games that were launched the same year as that GPU, nearly 99% of games tested, they manage to averaged at around 50/60-90 FPS, at max settings & native resolution and if you're lucky that there's a game that's very well-optimized, can reach 100+ FPS - smooth as silk, and even rarer if there's a game that's very well-optimized, even with Ray Tracing ON, and DLSS / FSR & Frame Generation OFF (DLSS / FSR set to PERFORMANCE or QUALITY, and Frame Generation ON also counts). Of course, Ray Tracing is optional, just hope they are very fully optimized.
Heck, in comparison to GTX 1050M years ago, RTX 4050 is almost exclusively found on entry & premiere gaming laptop brands. Recently, almost non-existent in standard consumer lifestyle laptops.
Here in the Philippines, a Php 70,000+ premiere gaming laptop is expensive AF, esp. if it is entry-level spec. It's quite very shocking (& very surprising) to see such price of gaming laptops on the premiere class, even if "just" packing a RTX 4050, with DDR5 RAM & latest generation CPUs.
Disclaimer: I'll mention the premiere gaming brands & it's original factory asking price I saw on internet as benchmark references (before promos & special local retailer discounts).

I'm still trying to understand the hierarchy of MSI's gaming laptop tiers, BTW. :/
In summary, The RTX 4050 must be something very special as an entry-level GPU, in comparison to it's predecessors.
Just long term capability due to it's 6 GB VRAM mentioned by UA-camr Hubwood being it's main concern. :/

Those Php 100K Lenovo Legion & ASUS Republic Of Gamers gaming laptops packing RTX 4050 tend to have a native resolution peak at 2560X1600 with frequency of 240Hz, and have far more superior display quality & refresh rate than the also equally excellent Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 display (1920 X 1200, 165 Hz).
