  • Sitting on a 3 acre plot of land, is this very large brown brick split level home that was custom built in 1976.
this is a house I've known about for quite some time, but just recently had the opportunity to check out. I was out in the area and decided to check on it and seen that the back sliding door was open!
the interior is almost completely original. hence the title of the video, it's so original and immaculate, it almost seems like it was built, and just never lived in. it really is a true 1970s gem.
unfortunately, this house is slated for demolition, as a private builder purchased it in 2018 to construct a new home on the property. the power will be cut, and unfortunately the house will come down.

That yellow color was called Harvest Gold. The green was Avocado. I was born in ‘61 so I grew up in a house similar to that - shag carpet and flocked wallpaper!

I thought they were more colors of the 1960's, not in 1976 as the title says this house was 'Custom Built'. Seeing all of it, so much 'Ugliness' everywhere, makes me understand why it was never lived in. My house built in 1964 had them both, in the appliances which, were removed before I moved in. Oh yeah, I also had a dark brown refrigerator that went outta here.

Some people are just never happy unless their bitchin' about something to bring everyone down. Having said that, another great find! Yeah, the colors of that time were wonky, that's for sure! Born in '72 here, and my mom had her kitchen in avacado, orange, and harvest gold. I still remember the wallpaper like it was yesterday! And I regularly check in with you hoping to see it again one last time, but you haven't come across it- yet! I love your giddiness over these retro finds! Just proof that you love what your doing, which is rare in and of itself, these days. Keep up the good work!

Yes-- I was there! Kitchens in Montreal and/or Vancouver were always either in avocado green or harvest gold. The good news at the time was land-lords encouraged people to rent by offering a couple of months free rent! Cable, rugs, drapes were included. Lived with an Italian family when I moved back to T.O. in a back split in North York. Their house was so clean with those tiles, you could practically eat off the floor! I think it had been built in the Seventies. Their Xmas displays with the lights and nativity scenes were wild! Good times! :)

I can't tell you how much this house's decor reminded me of those pictures! The wrought iron railings, that old carpet into the basement, the intercoms (the whole house woke up to All Things Considered on NPR Monday-Friday), the shag carpet, and even some of the window treatments. I can't believe they're tearing down all these gorgeous examples of 60's and 70's design. They just don't make houses like this anymore. Not just the paneling and tiling and wallpaper, but the LAYOUTS are so warm and inviting. I grew up in the late 70's and early 80's as a kid and these days, nobody has basement rec rooms like they used to. The designs of modern houses are so utilitarian and cold compared to then.

I think if they were to renovate this house I would suggest earth tones in the house.
Have updated electronics, larger kitchen with islands in it. And a larger laundry room.
The harvest gold is a bit too much but again, these were the styles back in the 70's. It isn't your fault

Great video Ethan! I love your enthusiasm! Our ranch home was built in 1964. One of the bedrooms had red flocked wallpaper and red drapes! My mom and mom-in-law steamed all of it off the walls and the room was painted. We have been updating our home since we bought it in the early 90's. Growing up, the kitchen in our house was Harvest Gold. My grandma's kitchen was Avocado green. Awesome!

Ethan, you stick your neck out to share with us these places. Most are beautiful, that alot of us could only dream of. I get as excited as you. And I wallpapered my parents house with almost the same color. So Ethan, don't pay attention to any rude people on here. They are not worth your time. Thanks for your videos!😊

Thank you for letting us see this house! I loved it! I was in high school in the 70’s so this was a trip down memory lane! I can’t get over how well kept it is. You did a great job as usual! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

This house is perfect museum quality & should be staged w/furniture from it’s era - physical memories from the past are so very important, but not to enough of the current population. Thank you once again for capturing this absolute virgin house in all it’s beauty before it comes down to never be remembered 👍❤️

Such a really Cool house to see before it comes to it's unfortunate end. The main thing I like about you is that you're young and you're able to appreciate what the older generation has Left behind. I really dig that four-seater couch in the basement next to the matching chair, too bad somebody couldn't save that I know I would. Keep up the good work young man!!!

Ethan you found my moms house! She was in heaven with the textures, colors, repeat designs, and matching colored bathroom fixtures.
We teased her as we got older about not updating so she did and replaced a newer "same thing” . The same colors. The post war people were color starved coming out of track homes and the trauma of WWII. They were raised in homes where most things were antique, dark, work to maintain while they fought the war. She loved store baked Wonder bread because it wasn’t homemade and bland. That is the key to some of the style choices. Vibrant, repetitive, modern, maintenance, with little hint to the past with exception to a old picture on the wall. And their love affair with wood paneling.
Lots of things in that house with no one living there. Clocks, picture, games some storage you breezed by. Odd no one occupied this time capsule. As always Thank You for the memories. Your documentation will be the evidence of what once was. Hopefully one day you will publish a book of all your splendid work. We do remember, we loved, we care. Your a brilliant darling. Thank you 🌟♥️🌟

Hey Ethan don't let the rude people get you down. It's a thing called if they aren't happy with their own life then they have to try to bring someone else down with them. That's what I call a very sad person. As long as you enjoy doing what you do then don't even mention them in your videos cuz it makes them think hey I got him a going now. What can I do nxt. K enough of that. Love the house. All green paint and shaggy carpet's looks like my grandma old place. Keep your chin up

The green was avocado, and the yellow is harvest gold. I am in my 60's now and my bedroom in the house I grew up in had red flocked wallpaper with a similar pattern. The bedspread was red velveteen with fringe along the edges. This type of decor was really "hip" in the 70's.. As much as I loved it back then I wonder how I didn't get motion sickness from walking into the room. 🤣🤣🤣
LOL!! The steps leading up from the basement looked like they were covered with a granny square crocheted blanket. Love these videos!

Someone lived in the house, even if it was temporary, and thankfully they were VERY clean. When you get to 8:31 you see an imprint on the floor shaped like a "sofa" table albeit a heavy one judging from the imprint. Then when you get to 8:35 you see the imprint of a chair as you enter the den, with an imprint of a long couch on the right as you're looking at the fireplace. Also there's an imprint of a "runner" carpet. No doubt the house was barely lived in as the tile on the floors is in mind condition, and the carpets are stunning. I have original 70's wood paneling, orange carpet, and green semi shag (Sears Best) in my house, I've kept it as mint as possible, but this house looks almost new. Good find Ethan!

Keep doing what you're doing, keep the excitement going. These vintage homes that you are finding are amazing. My Dreamhouse is mid-century modern. My first house that I purchase was built in 1980, unfortunately it has been renovated already. I was born in 1982, and I grew up in a house that was built in 1976. The house that I grew up in had all its 1976s features except for the shag carpet, it had the yellow kitchen, with yellow appliances , and the cabinets or dark brown, the house pretty much stayed the same , until I became an adult, my mother did not do any renovations to it. My mom only did maintenance to keep it nice. Keep up the good work, I appreciate your channel.

This is the second time I've watched this. It was every bit as entertaining as the first time I watched it, as I grew up in the 60's and 70's. This home would have been the absolute envy of the owners friends. Funny how tastes change. Some of the carpet/paint combinations made me kinda nauseous. Thanks again Ethan, great find!
