Id like to thank you for your very informative video series to refurbish my US 1944 single mantle Coleman lantern.
You are orderly and clear in your explanations . I appreciate that.
I will , no doubt, use your other video series when I work on my other gas lantern lamps.

Thanks again for a great series and for also providing information on other available resources out there! Cheers!

Before taking the valve assembly off, take a grease pencil and mark the bottom of the fount in line with the valve wheel. When putting the valve assembly back in, it will line up perfectly

Something else worth noting on the check valve conversation- if the check valve leaks, the pump won't be able to build full pressure. I just had a lantern with quite a bad check valve. I thought it may have other issues because it was burning with a very weak flame. However, after cleaning the check valve, I was able to properly pressurize the fount, and found that the lantern burns just fine when pressurized fully.

Great video to aid me in tearing down and cleaning my old Model 200....until I got the valve body out of the fount.
My pickup tube does not have a 5/16" nut holding it to the valve. I looked at it closely under magnification, I think it has a neck with threads above it but several attempts to grip and loosen the tube with pliers have prompted me to go another route. I suspended the tube in warm vinegar in a glass and will brush it several times as it soaks. Perhaps some carb cleaner at the tip to clean that up.
The tank is getting a full bath too to remove any rust or sediment and to fill the air tube to clean the back side of the check valve, which is currently not operating optimally. I don't have the tool to remove the valve yet. The only one I can find online is $140...a bit steep. $30 or $40 I would jump on in a heartbeat.
No idea yet if the lantern was a US or Canadian made model, no date markings visible yet but there is a sticker on the bottom of the tank to be removed next.
Thanks for your great videos, they are very educational.

    Hi Frank
I was having trouble with my 200a flaming as I lit it, never had this before. Anyway I replaced the generator tube, still no good. I had striped it all down but could not undo the burner tube, blew down and it was clear. Well I was looking at it after the rebuild and still flaring and looking up into the small hole where the generator tube fits into I could see something. It turned out to be a wasp. Managed to undo the burner tube and cleaned it out. Re lit it and Woosh there she lit, running fine now. Thanks.

  • @blackdogbite
    @blackdogbite 2 роки тому

Frank.....@ 4:45 you are demonstrating removing the 5/8" nut from the burner tube. You say that the nut should stay fixed relative to the tube. For me, the nut is moving a bit, but the tube does not move with it. The burner tube is frozen to the "U" tube. I've tried penetrating oil but I can't get to to release. The nut turns a couple revolutions and then locks up at a certain point when unscrewing.
The nut is pretty soft, and because of the odd angle, I'm starting to strip the corners off it. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks for all your good work.
    UPDATE....USED A DEEP-WELL SOCKET. ALL GOOD

@@OldTownColeman Thanks for the videos, they are very helpful! I bought a 1945 Coleman gas lantern on ebay because I wanted a cool gas lantern in the summer instead of an LED one, but unfortunately I have no clue about gas lamps yet. Is the 1945 standard army model the the same model as the 252A? I can only read "U.S., Coleman 1945", no other model type. The mantle is missing and the "ignition stone" is worn out. I don't know if the lantern works. Do you know where I can buy parts, and check if it works? I'm a total newbie, I just know it burns gas.. somehow :-D

I tore down my 200a last night. I was quite disappointed to find rust and peeling coating inside the fount. The pump tube is also all rusty inside. And the check valve came out with an unmodified screwdriver effortlessly. I can't believe the thing worked at all. I'm really disappointed to find all that crap in there because I thought the lantern was in very good condition. I'm not giving up on it though! Ordering parts now to repair it.

    Couple questions regarding the pump:
    1) My Coleman 139 pump is held in with two screws. After taking out the screws do I have to unscrew the knurled shoulder of the pump from the font, or does it just pull straight out like you show in your video?
