i dont normally like or comment on videos but this actually worked! i have a 2021 mac with only the usb-c ports, so i luckily found a capture card that goes from hdmi to usb-c (it also came with its own usb to usb-c adapter too) works like a charm! the video quality is not 100% my favorite compared to a tv, or literally anything else i do on my mac, but i think thats just preference. the tutorial was simple and straight forward, the only thing that tripped me up was obs demanding for a streamer key and such, but i got around it by just closing and opening the app again.

How did you do it ? I have a HDMI and usbc cable and it doesn’t work on my usbc port on my mac.

I just bought a very similar USB-C Video Capture device for my switch also, I spent the last 30 minutes just trying to get OBS to recognize the device and then I watched your video and it was exactly what I needed!! Followed your vid, and the solution is brilliant, it works pretty well, but I have a 4k iMac 2017, and making it fulscreen is a bad idea for me, since it looks noticeably low res. Thank you so much! Just leaving it here for the people who have the same display.
in the switch settings under 'TV Output', there's an update where you can output to 1080p, should help a bit :)
@@tobyjackson9715 I have a 2012 iMac and I changed the switch Tv res to 1080p but nothing changed. It still looks 720p.

@@tobyjackson9715 I also have a m1 mac. So I have a few questions, is like the delay alot??? or like how long is the delay. Is it noticeable???and if you fullscreen it does the resolution look bad? and what is your fps, is it like 4K 60?
@@IAmDaPlane hi, so the lag really isn’t noticeable at all. The only time it’s ever so slightly different is when I’ve immediately switched from my Xbox, by which point going from 120fps on a monitor to a 30fps is different, but it’s still very playable. The resolution is capped at 1080p just because the software hasn’t been optimised for Mac yet, but it might happen in the future. The resolution looks great for a switch, because the games are made to be played on a lower res, but on a different console it does look a bit pixelated on full screen. Overall though, it’s definitely worth getting, Hope that helps :)

On video spurce adding- it only offers imac camera or imac micropho e. What did u do for u mac to recognise it.
It works perfectly fine, just the OBS download gives you two options for the macOS, intel and apple silicon. Apple silicon didn't work, but intel did.

The USB-C cord is not showing up as an input option in my sound settings, and I can't seem to find a way to get my Mac to identify the USB-C as an option. Do you have any advice for anything I can try? I've already restarted my Mac with the USB-C plugged in to try and get it to recognize it's external connection but no luck.

Your USB-C cord must have video capture capabilities.

I'm having the same issue now even though I was able to get it to work the first time. I haven't changed anything but it doesn't show up as a source anymore :(

I've bought a normal cable USB-C to HDMI and did not worked, maybe I need a video captura cable
I can only get everything to work for one day, then when I open OBS the next day, the audio doesn't work. I have to restart my computer for the switch audio to work again. Any fixes?

This is working pretty great for me! The only issue I'm running into is that the reaction time is a bit slow. Has any one else run into this problem and solved it? Downgrading the video quality hasn't made a difference for me

Why it's not working for me? I have a M1 Macbook Pro and I got Anker USB-C HDMI capture card, but when I go to settings for audio USB 3.0 doesn't pop up and same in the OBS, USB 3.0 doesn't pop up. Did I something wrong or what can I do to connect it to Macbook Pro so I can play on a big screen?

EDIT: No it doesn't. I experience super-lag and my fps settings go no higher than 30 even on 1080p output. What else have you got?

with this set up will you be able to alt tab and do other things and then tab right back? I only have one monitor and it's kind of a pain doing discord and playing on the switch at the same time.

i still dont get it :( i plugged in the usb into the mac and the hdmi into the nintendo dock and it still didnt show the usb in sound settings

I found it basically you have to go to settings then it says sound input press it go down it’s there it says output and input press the usb audio

Because it’s not really a usb it’s a hdmi capture card with a usb on it

Replug the adapter, restart the OBS app. Have a try.

This was very helpful, thank you. How do you make the screen quality better on the Imac? For example, I have a little video line that moves up and down my screen when playing Nintendo switch. It's not the worse line but would be great if I can make the game run a bit smoother.

Right click with mouse and it should pop up. I tried with my MacBook using the pad on the laptop but it did not work. I connected my mouse and right clicked and it worked.
If anyone is having issues with audio, just plug headphones into the Switch dock

I try to use mi iMac as second screen for mi M1 Macbook Air. I bought the best video capture card I can get (Razer Ripsaw X 4k), the best usbc-hdmi and it works, but it isn't a "monitor" solution. Is just a projection with loss of quality, some lag and square pixels on circles. You cannot approach the full quality of the iMac screen with this solution.
this worked well, until it didn’t. it won’t properly scale to my 2015 mac, half of it gets cut off and i can’t crop it.
So like my Mac doesn’t have an hdmi on the back of it and I’m not quite understanding what to use either instead or even do with the back of my computer and where to plug it in

It must be a HDMI to USB(USB-C/USB-A) video capture card, not an ordinary USB to HDMI adapter.

hey, I want to ask. Is there any delay between your console and your monitor?
There is definitely a delay. This is just the easiest and cheapest option. I think the lag is acceptable if you're just playing some single player games.

Yes, of course.
But why? it will be more expensive than a normal display.
Unless you need to do some live streaming (Xbox, Playstation or Switch...).

I think I’m kinda late, the thing that I do is just unplug the usb-c adapter
ATTENTION if you are someone who has spent all their money and can’t afford a capture card I have a solution. But you do need a ipad/phone and we’ll a Mac. If you turn on screen mirroring on your ipad/iPhone and connect it to your Mac you should see the screen projected on the monitor. It isn’t very good quality (depends on your camera) but you can go into the camera app, point it at the switch (I would turn all lights off) and boom the switch is on the Mac.

No, you can't use a typical USB-C to HDMI converter to do this. It must be a video capture. I just introduced an entry-level USB-C to HDMI video capture device which is really cheap.

I was mostly able to get everything to work. Recording and facecam and gameplay works great, the only problem I'm still having is the audio.
