This was a great cast. I have never listened to an entire chapo show but this one was really interesting and I appreciate the anti war arguments made here. I also appreciated the vindication of knowing that WWI really was a purposeless cluster fuck. Thanks.
All the posturing around september the 11th didn't feel real at the time. It was something a narrow group of people made happen. There wasn't a real public appetite for it (as demonstrated by how every single piece of media around it tanked). Columbine was the actual definitive event that we live in the aftermath of. The event that replays itself in greater monstrosity every few years and lesser monstrosity every few months while the ruling class smile and do nothing. The political classes response to Sandyhook is as obscene as Epstein island, and they do that shit in public.
Would be nicer, and a lot less scarier if this fucking country had a militant Left so we could be better prepared to deal with these reactionary razorbacks, but no: we let the pub skool Lib " humanitarian" propaganda bs neuter us.. Oh well L! O! L!
@Chad Dysvick I agree with everything you said except that if there were an organized, armed Left in this country: we are probably looking at a world very different from the one we know in almost every conceivable way. (I. E. The Cold War would have went very, very differently.) There probably wouldn't be a lot of reactionary sociopaths and dullards alive needing conversion. Lol!
Really enjoyable episode; Derek Davison's genuine giggling laugh in the background is always so charming and cute. The only downer is that all this is only a "big deal" because it happens to break norms with meaninglesss, right-wing norms, for a change. Will's assumption that this will be some kind of breaking point seems really odd, when this podcast has documented, over and over, that anyone who is into Trump is either cynically on board for practical reasons (mostly older people), or don't care about right-wing "respectability politics" in any earnest way (mostly young people). Even if it is completely taboo to act in this way as president, the right-wing mentality is so automatically deferential to cohesion that the risk of breaking rank in any meaningful way, is probably very low. Furthermore, the particular way that the right-wing exists in the US has this uniquely insane pseudo-religious persecution-complex to it that sees any outside criticism as not only validating of the structure of whatever group you're currently in, but probably also individually pleasurable (because it gives you an opportunity to dump your condescending self-talk on a new stranger).
i don’t see how China can ‘suddenly’ become an existential threat, after everyone has got used to them being there. then again, nobody really thought Russia was in any way, shape or form a threat. idk, but it seems to me like you need them to have a revolution-or some other novelty. John Pilger’s film, ‘The Coming War with China’ is pretty old, but i keep thinking about it now👉🏾Pilger is awesome.
I mean, not to rebut Amber's point, WWI was about imperial fascism, it's just that, in this case, all the belligerents were imperial fascists, in their own liberal bourgeois ways.
Great show , Also it’s trumps way to say fuck off to the power elite Trumps grandfather dodged the draft in WW1 in Germany moved to the USA then tried to go back to Germany and Germany said no, again trump beats the establishment
Absolutely amazing episode. Sometimes Chapo meanders into fashion or whatever and it is, quite non-ironically, atrocious. Sometimes the analysis is so crushingly on-point, it hurts. When I was a liberal not long ago, Amber annoyed me constantly. Then I saw the sunny side of her approach as I moved Left. Then I realized, as even she does in a moment of rare self-reflection, that nah, she's pretty reactionary. As long as she's pointed at the right targets, then hey. This is definitely not an 'Amber should go away' comment.
@@philippedesruisseaux5621 pointless is too broad. I mean in the sense that war is pointless, sure. But it did directly break up 4 empires and introduced democracy at an unprecedented level. It may be overshadowed by WW2 but it's still an extremely important period in history

Oh man, "what if HW died during the war" would make a great hinge point episode

I'm gonna start using "abattoir of exploitation" in regular conversation now
How do you unwind a military industrial complex before our eventual heat death?
Unite, organize, smashy smashy
Beyond the military, the industrial market complex is the generator of climate change~

They literally called nk irq + irn the new “axis of evil”
WWI also gave us the Middle East in its present form via Sykes-Picot. 🙄🤦🏻♂️
