Bard is still the only class that can damage other people by playing the first 4 notes of Megalovania with cringe dmg. If that doesnt make it at least a very compelling point to play bard I dunno what will
See what you do is you learn how to play Sweet Home Alabama. Why? Because the first 4 notes of Megalovania and Sweet Home Alabama are the same, so you can hit them with cringe damage and then whiplash them with Alabama.

I love playing a gacha game while playing this class. The RNG is just to good for a gacha addict like me to not resist the class.
My bard experience:
Step 1 : create my character and choose archer
Step 2 : level up 30 and become a clown
Step 3 : ???
Step 4 : change job
That was literally my Bard experience. Got to 30, saw the pink clown gear. Went to PLD. I regret nothing. Being the poster boy in EW is also great. :D

I really liked the front of being an archer. I didn't really like becoming a bard archer.. like let me enjoy my kick-ass ranger fantasy without forcing me to become a musician.
Just didn't feel like the same class so I switched to Samurai.
Even the gladiator to paladin feels weird to me. I like glad and I like pally, I just think it would be cool if gladiators weren't forced to embrace holy magic.. just kinda defeats the entire feeling of being a Gladiator.
@@JasonLudeli they keep calling it holy, but in the lore there isn’t anyone to give you holy power. And if you look it another way, every player has holy power regardless of the job they choose.
It is such weird thematic decision for a game with characters telling you left and write gods don’t exist.

I've been bard maining since 2.0 release. I have never known anything else. I stayed when they took away our cool AOE (rip backflip). I stayed through bow-mage and cursed the changes every day that I played, but like a loyal sports fan, you don't just stop supporting your team just because they lost the match. When they released us from the tumultuous hellscape of bow-mage, I was there rejoicing. When they reworked our songs, I adapted to the changes. And again when they re-re-worked them. I don't think I'm a masochist, necessarily, I just really, REALLY like bows as a weapon. IDK what it is. I love them. I love the fact that I can run around like a madman shooting a giant ostentatious bow. And I'm not even mad about mixing bard lore with archer lore. I know some people would like the bow-wielding class to be more like a hunter-type thing, but I actually love that we're these over-the-top flamboyant packages of fabulousness and eccentric fury. It's fun! Thematically, we're like that really cool gay uncle you wish you had that has killer fashion sense, is a ridiculously talented singer/performance artist, looks gorgeous always, gives great advice, and could knock out an asshole with a single punch because he never skips gym day. Does he have some baggage? Yes. But we still love cool gay uncle.
I just started playing and i chose archer/bard as my first class for the same reasons you did. I watched the video and was kind of having second thoughts, but then your comment reminded me exactly why i should keep playing with this class. Thank you. Agree with absolutely everything. And i can only hope someday i get to be a cool gay uncle too.

Hot take. Bard itself isn't terrible, but what kills it for most people is even trying to get to bard.
I had friends quit the game because Archery's RNG rotation was just to painful and taught bad mechanical skills for the game if it was your starting class.
Lol out of the 3 physical I get the most enjoyment out of Bard more than MCH or DNC so that's what keeps me going.
But this video does mention alot of the main problem with BRD, to this day, I don't get why the songs and Battle voice doesn't buff me... Like...Why? Just why? I had friends say "Oh that's because the BRD is singing for everyone else! Not for themselves" so I'm like "...So...I mean, Dancers dances for others, so shouldn't technical step not buff themselves then?"
Also I feel your condolences with all the songs...Mages ballad? Over capping. Army's Paeon? Well, its a nice resting moment...
Wanderer's minuet? Yay I...pulled off 2 Pitch perfect in the whole 30 SECONDS.

I just got past the level 50 class quest for bard.
It was really fun until I was given a puffy pink&purple clown outfit.
On the bright side, I'm now motivated to get to level 60 so I can get my next set of class gear.
I remember in the days of 2.0 when the only real way you could get rid of the clown outfit was grind wanderer's palace to get yourself the much cooler looking darklight armour; I highly recommend it
the shit after 60 looks pretty good. i also just picked up bucaneer gear in the 50s, ppl were selling it on my server for cheap from dungeons

im glad im not only one who noticed this. i wear my normal glam as a RDM and i never saw a single proc, i put on base outfit, i got more procs than bezos does money. what?????

@@stickytim64 but covering one eye consumes part of their power so they dont dont kill their target too quickly and can play with their food err umm i mean target. (yes that is a bleach reference im not proud to say i watched all the episodes but i did i have no life)
I legit got back on Red Mage just yesterday during Stormblood MSQ and dropped everything to get some red dye to put on *something*.

Try covering both eyes, makes a huge difference in end game content your damage goes through the roof
Aside from the mechinist a lot of the ranged physical dps feel really rng dependent.

Did you know that when it first came out, MCH's main combo had only a 50% chance of moving on to the next step per step of the 3 step combo?
All of the ranged DPS have an unhealthy relationship with RNG mechanics, either historically or currently.

As a Bard main since 2.0, your take was certainly super cool, concise, and pretty funny! I absolutely do agree on a lot of the points taken. In Heavensward it definitely was a moment of "oh, they're doing THIS to us?" that I put up with but eventually grew to like the additional challenge in Savage back then. Stormblood and Shadowbringers Bard are pure love for me and are *so* much better with our mobility again. But I am taking this perspective contextualized in Bard alone, not compared to what DNC or others took from us, for example.

I have been a Bard main since 2.0. I still feel like most of the changes to Bard in Shadowbringers were made to it because parts of the community keep saying "I want to be an Archer without the support because I want to use a bow." Being the ranged since the beginning it has always had that torn crowd of mains; people that play the job because they want to play support and the other half that play the job because they want to use a bow.
Getting bard to 80 was suffering for me. It really felt like no ability had impact. Machinist and Dancer feel nice, like your abilities have a punch to them. Your arrows feel like nerf arrows.
Oh well, they get a guitar at least.

Wish i could give it more than just 1 like just for the sea shanty.
After the admission of changing from Hyur to Miqo I'm starting to understand where Lucy draws her cringe power from
Bard, Machinist and Dark Knight about to make a death/industrial heavy metal group for 2 years while the other jobs are having fun.
I can't get over that they went through the effort with other buffs to put them on a minute so that buff windows would be less scuffed, like tanks now having burst every minute instead of every 90 seconds and then they go and give the bard a buff that goes off every 90 seconds

I'm a bard main and have been since the dark days of Bowmage, and will continue to main the class until my dying breath.
But you're also not wrong.
As a long time Monk main I understand the pain and wish you would hold no ire for us. We too had our identity taken by the new melee on the block who was lavished with attention while Monk was given baffling RNG and a slow that ran completely contrary to how we liked to play. Then the devs lied to us in Shadowbringers and said they'd fix the problems after we got screwed in what they'd said was our own expansion only to simply... not.

I actually picked up Bard at the end of shadowbringers and tbh I love it. I just love having a bow and everyone knowing I'm not gonna do as good DPS which lowers expectations. I'm still deciding if I'm gonna main Bard is Endwalker or switch to reaper all because my character's color theme matches the reaper move sets.
I'm a newish player, started out and maining Bard since about october of last year. And boy howdy does 8:07 stay true to a T!
I don't remember a single time where I've proc'd Warden's Paean and it actually did something. It sits on my hotbar and collects dust.

I may be old enough to be your grandmother, and I've only watched like 4 anime movies in my life (plus a couple of episodes of Cowboy Bebob(sp?)), but I keep binge watching your videos 2-3 at a time. lol. They are zany, filled with different kinds of content (plus rapping?!), and they are funny. You speak so fast I have to watch each one multiple times, and/or watch at least one slowed down to half-speed with the Closed Caption turned on, but I think I'm becoming a fan.
I should also note that I only got turned onto FF14 recently and have yet to play - I don't want to buy the game till I try it out and make sure I can even play (I'm disabled). But it seems right up my alley, so I'm exciting...er, excited. Now I just have to be patient and wait for free trials to be offered again......
In the meantime, keep up with the fascinating videos! They are some of the freshest content I have watched on UA-cam in a long time. (hugs)
P.s. Back in EQ 1, I played exclusively on a PVP server, Tallon Zek for years. Actually ran one of the biggest and longest-lasting "evil" team guilds for over 3 years if memory serves. In any event, Bards could run REALLY fast in this game and "wove" songs together using hotkeys. If they were good, they could weave 4 songs at once. Never played one myself, but was the victim of many a bard back in the day. (I played a Necro (basically DoT DPS char), and my main, a Gnome Druid. Druid sucked in PVP, but the Necro was pretty boss......).

I started this game as a bard, and i can totally feel that it is missing something, but i am too stubborn and/or a masochist to stop playing it. Thanks for reminding me of all its flaws! This self pity will hopefully sustain me throughout this expansion! Great video Lucy ;)

Brd is that class for when the rng being on your side makes it fell so good. as rare as the can come by, but Procs go brrrrrr
When I tried bard, I liked everything about it except the fact that the class just felt increadbly clunky to me.
Needless to say, I picked up MCH as soon as I could and hoo boy what a difference.

Bard in 14 has always felt wrong. Love support classes and buffing, exactly what bard should be able to do. Rift's bards were the best examples.
As a sch main. Bards are my best friend. As long as they natures minne me. I like my shields like i like my tanks very big. Also they can esuna themselves in tea and that alone means I will take them in endwalker over dnc.
