A beautiful actress becomes embroiled in a tale of theft, adultery and confusion. Even Miss Marple claims to have trouble solving this mystery. From The Thirteen Problems.
    More about this story
Jane Helier, the beautiful, if vacuous actress, tells a story of a the theft of a woman's jewels and the playwright accused of stealing them. But unlike the other cases told at the Bantrys' dinner table, Miss Marple concludes at the end she doesn't know the true solution, however she whispers something to Jane that suggests otherwise...
Initially published in 1930 in The Story-Teller magazine, the story was later collected with others in The Thirteen Problems.
    It has never been adapted.

This is an especially well-done radio play, and I truly believe Dame Agatha would agree.

Excellent reading! The characters were all separate persons. And she especially read the actress, Jane, making her somewhat empty headed. Although at the end one is not so sure. . . 🎭🌷🌱

Why the background noise? I can't listen to the story because of the distraction.

Can you get rid of the background noise? It's very off-putting

I wonder why Dame Agatha chose the Christian name 'Jane' for her character Miss Helier especially when her 'Miss Jane Marple' appears in the story?

The two Janes. There are a contrast, for us to compare. There are also an eventually an inside sympathy between them...

      I guess there's more than one Jane. I know 3 ❤

Her characters sometimes appear in other stories, so there may be crossovers.

Did you not know the name Jane, in the early/mid century was as popular as the name Mary and Kathy! Knowing three or four Mary's, Jane's, or Helen's, was common and quite normal. We had to always, always, use our last initials when saying our names, in school.

My Giddy Aunt, that background rumble is soooo unnecessary. I'm off.
