Impressed it works with the cars preexisting controls. Being able to stick a new radio in like that is a serious upgrade. Don’t watch your outro while driving though 🙂
@@zo1dberg Qashcai is Dualis. Overseas they were always called Qashcai but was rebranded Dualis in Aus. Recently they have reverted to the foreign branding.
Interesting video, maybe a teardown/repair of the old unit in the future? I've actually seen videos of people taking old car radios and using them as the basis of a simple home stereo system, that might also make for an interesting future project.
Protip: if you’re going to call it a whizz bang device don’t list its first feature as being a DVD player. DVDs are so 1997 :P Bluetooth audio streaming with Spotify is where it’s at now!
I use a 90's OEM Alpine deck made in japan, none of that new fancy touchscreen rubbish. Removed the tape deck, soldered some wires and it plays clean audio from external sources. Add a bluetooth receiver and it can do streaming no worries, thank you very much.
omg, i was like "that voice sounds familiar" and then I looked at channel name and well. Hi Dave! Great to see you did this installation in Quashqai. Can I ask you, do you have BOSE sound system in it or not? I'm about to do same thing on uncle's quashqai but he does have the BOSE sound system and I'm not sure if it'll work or not. Can you help? Thanks
Windows Embedded generally doesn't BSOD. Neither does CE. Controlled environment, known devices and interfaces, no porn surfing, etc. Source: I work on Windows.
ok so we need to hack the think and surf porn to bsod? i think that will be doable - dave?? lol jokes aside.. i think i would prefer a linux device in my car - not that i have a car right now.. but well - linux! :D
Pete Brown Yes, My Keysight scope runs an embedded Windows OS of some sort too and I don't expect it to mess up any more than any other device with an OS. I'm also assuming the development tools are nicer to work with than for other embedded OS.
Now you stream Icehouse albums from a usb stick! Btw, does this radio have DAB+? In the netherlands their advertising on the radio about this new fangled digital radio thing that's going to replace FM.
Hi Dave, have you measured the current the unit draws when it is supposed to be turned off? A lot of these kind of devices (especially those that connect to the CAN bus of the car) are not so well designed and will drain your car battery in a matter of a few days if you don't use your car.
It’s called a head unit and you can already buy ISO plug adapters that goes from different branded head units to different makes and models of cars, they cost around $15ea 1 for the head unit and 1 for the cars wiring harness. Example Sony head unit to 2010 Subaru RS
Your car is funky. I was looking into replacing the radio for a vehicle in my family for Android Auto, couldn't find anything other than it wouldn't be easy to do... Too bad it's not my vehicle!
If your not entirely sure how to tackle a job like this, hit up a company called CrutchField. They have all of the adaptors available, and tell you "if your car has X options, you'll need A and B to complete the job". Very comprehensive, even give you instructions specific to your vehicle. Also pretty good customer service.
I would recomend one of the px5 android headunits they are equipped with 2gb of ram, an octa core processor and 32gb of build in memory. Also they make these for a variety of car models so they come with the correct wiring harness etc. They are made by a variety of manufacturers Pumpkin; Xtrons etc.
Yup, just got a px5 a couple weeks ago from Dasaita - pretty nice, though i still need to find the correct mounting bracket - the one I got from amazon doesn't fit as it has a front plate to it, not just the side bits
Eric Groslevin I once drove a rhd-car in the Netherlands (yeah, the country with the solar cycle roads), took a friend on the non steering wheel side, and pranked other drivers all day long...
Its on the RIGHT side, lhd cars are lethal if you drive on the left as you vision is badly obscured, its a pig when you go to change gear too as its the not in the same place lol
I did the same thing to my Nissan Altima, but with an Android system and a 10 inch display! Wicked! You need to hook up a rear-view camera to get the full experience though. That's probably the connector that has nothing hooked up to it. Very easy to do!
something i need to sort on my 07 Jaguar X type, except with mine the screen for the stereo is also the GPS, climate control and phone module, so instead im just gonna have to hack the original for a bluetooth module!
Is it legal in Australia to have a driver accessible display that will do video? Not here in the U.S. I could paint a picture of nasty liability if someone is involved in a accident with a unit like that. However, I do think it's cool!
Usually the handbrake and speed sensor are both wired so the main screen doesn't show any video, unless the car is stopped and the handbrake is pulled up.
onehungloe, shame on you Dave thought you would of put a decent bit of kit in your car - Dualis - Rouge in the US of hay - Qashqai everywhere else - blue wire on the gt13 aerial plug is the 12v feed up to the aerial amp on the roof - most Nissan's are a easy install compared to some of the really funky dashes out there
Teardown of the old stereo?
Good idea!
I second the teardown idea :)
I'll third the teardown idea
The thumbnail looked like some sort of rocket-powered car. :)
Impressed it works with the cars preexisting controls. Being able to stick a new radio in like that is a serious upgrade. Don’t watch your outro while driving though 🙂
Dave, on the subject of cars, did you ever finish restoring your Sinclair C5?
"Car".
?
Car?
Yeah, I did think about putting "car" in quotes. It was quicker than typing "washing machine motor on wheels".
Nissan Dualis is called Qashqai in Europe and Rogue in the US..
Eddie Hermansson We also have the Qashqai badge in Australia. Sure it's not a different car?
@@zo1dberg Qashcai is Dualis. Overseas they were always called Qashcai but was rebranded Dualis in Aus. Recently they have reverted to the foreign branding.
Also Qashqai in China.
0:40 Existing radio is prime for a tear-down
I love the EEVblog episodes where Robert is the sibling of one of my parents!

being an electronics engineer, I'm surprised you didn't make one your self.. That would've been an awesome video.
hmm Windows Vista Wallpaper
mattcysiewski111 an operating system will never be quite as over-designed as Vista, and the only decent result of it all was the wallpapers..
I thought I recognized that background from somewhere!
Protip: if you’re going to call it a whizz bang device don’t list its first feature as being a DVD player. DVDs are so 1997 :P
Bluetooth audio streaming with Spotify is where it’s at now!
Now you just need a 1000 watt double thumper in the back and a Snoop Dogg CD.
Thug lyfe ✌
When I first saw the thumbnail I thought "who routed the dual exhaust out the dashboard". :)
Now you can have the Psh too too too sound

Dave, you better hope that doesn't bluescreen while listening to the radio...
wait? is that just the vista background or is it really runing windows?? a bluescreening car would suck wouldnt it? :D
sgpch1983 most run windows CE
A lot of the cheaper units run WIndows CE

This is exactly my job for today in my daughters Dualis. You're a life saver.
Also, Is it just me or does it take everyone 3 tries to plug in a USB??
WAIT, don't turn it on take it apart?????
ʜ̲̅ᴀ̲̅ɴ̲̅ᴋ̲̅ ʙ̲̅ɪ̲̅ᴢ̲̅ᴢ̲̅ᴏ̲̅5̲̅ don't worry, these Chinese Android units always need to be taken apart after a while to fix...
That is the big reason to stay away from them... Go with a name like Clarion.. Looking forward to a repair vide..

Wonder if it still plays videos while in drive. Many infotainment centers disable that when in gear.
Homer Cooper the cheap non brand name ones usually have that option
What research did you have to do to make sure this was compatible with your car? I am worried to DIY this and find some stupid unexpected problem.

another aussie with a dualis, did you have much issues with the installation? or was it a direct swap with the old unit?
What size is the deck? I need to purchase one for mine
Dave, you trying to earn brownie points with the misses.
It looks like it was a great install.
No RDS?
Looked couple others and the pictures only show frequency. CHinese don't have RDS at all?
Very low RDSon in the datasheet for this one.
If it's the android one, you have to go into the "factory settings" with the password and turn the RDS on - it's disabled by default.
Who really cares about RDS when you have aux/usb and can play anything you want.
Hi
Does the "i" button still work in the dash?
Can i have a link please, where u buy this? 👀
Looks like our 2013 Qashqai inside. Is Dualis the Aussie name for that?
RedDragonUKTech Yes - though the current model is called Qashqai here too
Mate, please can I have model/make of this unit? I want one for my car, same as yours! Appreciate your help! Thanks.
Car companies need to make a windshield with a transparent LCD where you can take the in-car entertainment to the next level.
Some cars do have HUDs for stuff like your speedometer, etc.
Your steering wheel is on the wrong site. Gotta fix that! :D

Lol

It is on the right side,... even it would better on the...
You are living in the wrong country. LOL...
Its on the RIGHT side, lhd cars are lethal if you drive on the left as you vision is badly obscured, its a pig when you go to change gear too as its the not in the same place lol
HE moved it for the installation.
OMG! Who put your steering wheel on the opposite side? Is that steering for Imperial units?
Most of these units are a glorified tablet running Android... Mine is....
Wish it was Android. This one doesn't seem to be.
Most of them still run Windows CE
Did just this with a Mazda 2 now the air bag light need resetting :).
Aka Nissan Qashqai in Europe.. ;)
AKA Nissan Rogue in America
I have fitted one of these and had to wire it to the handbrake switch so it would only play video with the handbrake on.
tizer33 I did one that had that in my old car. Said fuck that and bypassed it by shorting the wire straight to ground
yeah now dave can watch dvds while driving. no worries whats so ever....
I did the same thing to my Nissan Altima, but with an Android system and a 10 inch display! Wicked! You need to hook up a rear-view camera to get the full experience though. That's probably the connector that has nothing hooked up to it. Very easy to do!
How is the amp?
Long John Silver approved ;) 4:26

How to update your car by 10 years. It's not like much else changes in the cars over time.
Pretty nifty
Next on ozzy guy reviews..
Noice 👍
We had the same in our old dualis, you will find it has piss poor radio reception
Make a boombox with the old one lol
Is it legal in Australia to have a driver accessible display that will do video? Not here in the U.S. I could paint a picture of nasty liability if someone is involved in a accident with a unit like that. However, I do think it's cool!
Dino Papas yeah you can there is unlock codes to watch movies while driving
Usually the handbrake and speed sensor are both wired so the main screen doesn't show any video, unless the car is stopped and the handbrake is pulled up.
These cheap shit ones use the GPS for the speed sensor..
Windows Vista wallpaper lol :D
Who else want to watch Command and Control Damascus incident. Nuke nerds forever...
Mic super overdriven...
Don't turn it on, take it apart.
Why not Nissan Leaf?
I have one of that in my car but is Android... much better put your own applications
Its a nissón 😂
I see the problem the steering wheel on the wrong bloodly side!
onehungloe, shame on you Dave thought you would of put a decent bit of kit in your car - Dualis - Rouge in the US of hay - Qashqai everywhere else - blue wire on the gt13 aerial plug is the 12v feed up to the aerial amp on the roof - most Nissan's are a easy install compared to some of the really funky dashes out there
ohh no dave, the qashqai is one of the ugliest suvs...
Don't buy Nissan products or Nissan cars if you value your money like Scotty said RUN don't walk away from it
Done 100,000 trouble free miles in my Nissan.
Scotty who? Surely you can't be talking about that useless cretin Kilmer? My daughter knows more about cars than that idiot.
