"Why aren't that many people listening to this?"
Was the 1st question I asked when I discovered king gizz. And this was the 1st album I listened to when it came out in 2017. Blew my fuckin head off and I attached a lizard head afterwards. Forever a Gizzhead. Welcome to the weirdo swarm homie

Ok for KG, the first song (K.G.L.W) is just an intro, so you might like covering that one and Automation in the same video, you'll really love KG and LW, those 2 are reaaally great

In the remlinger farms version Joey got his guitar tech to say nuclear fusion at the beginning in French and it is funny as hell.
Can't wait for KG and LW.

This album is great, easily one of my favorites. Nuclear Fusion is for sure a standout song.
The instrument Stu plays on some tracks on this album (including the title track) is called a Zurna, it's a Turkish wind instrument, and I love how it sounds. It's also used on Wah Wah from Nonagon Infinity.
I know you wanted some heavier songs from this album, and the next 2 microtonal albums both deliver with that, but also have some softer songs like Honey. I listened to both of those albums for the first time when I was super tired, so I didn't appreciate them much, but I've been going back to them and they're just great!

Hey bro, just found your channel while having a glass and cigar tonight. Having fun checking it out around your videos. I like how chill you are and you actually try to listen to the song which I also like. Breakdowns are great in my opinion. Much love from Kentucky! You got yerself a sub!

Anoxia is a banger too, and that live video didn't do it justice. The stereo effect in the drum part you noticed in the KEXP version of Nuclear Fusion is in the studio version as well. I'm curious to hear your thoughts after a complete listen. While King Gizz has amazing live performances, I think it is best when you react to the studio versions of their songs first, as it eliminates the variables of the sound quality of a live recording and the tightness of the band on any particular night. I love the videos you've done where you listen to the studio version first and if you enjoy it you look for a live version, but in the cases like Anoxia where you only listened to the live version, it wasn't given the even playing field of a studio recording.

Nuclear Fusion was my very first King Gizz track, my brother introduced me to this band by playing this song in the car all the way back in 2017. I loved the song but at the time I wasn't sure if I'd actually dig the band as their output at the time was pretty 'balls to the walls' noise rock that I just didn't vibe with (you know, Nonagon Infinity and Murder of the Universe)
wasn't until 2019's 'Fishing for Fishies' came out and I realized that they're not the lo-fi garage rock band I initially thought they were, have been my favourite band ever since. keen for your reaction for KG

Glad you liked this one, Nuclear Fusion is my second favorite microtonal song from them. (My favorite being Ontology off of KG.) You'll notice the beginning of KG fades in from the ending of FMB. KG and LW have a different vibe than this album, but I personally like them. I'm excited to see what you think.

So Gizz does a lot of cool transitions. The wind sound of the last track of loops back into Rattlesnake.... BUT also transitions into the KG intro song KGLW

  • @shawnlilly5934
    @shawnlilly5934 10 місяців тому +2

Make sure you do those next two songs together since the first is more of an intro to KGLW as an album set. It’s also the outro but that’s way later

This was what brought me into gizz, more specifically open water and their behind the scenes video, but man I love nuclear fusion. The stereo effect on the drums is that both kits are panned opposite of each other, and Eric and Cavs would choose at certain points to have one playing the upbeat hi-hat and the other playing the downbeat hi-hat, causing it to have this quick trading hi-hat back and forth between them. They did this pretty often, the biggest time I remember them doing it otherwise was on murder of the universe. Its also on the studio version. With the instruments, a harmonica was used that had some microtonal stuff done to it that I don't actually know much of the specifics about, but it also used a Zurna, which other people mention in here. As the album was originally written for Baglama, a Turkish folk instrument, and their guitar tunings were suggested by Tolgahan Cogulu, a Turkish professor working on microtonal instruments, as well as Sleep Drifter being inspired by Kara Toprak, a Turkish folk song, having a Turkish wind instrument is pretty well fitting

You're gonna love both K.G. and L.W. I think as a listener it would be way better to check out Silver Cord after listening to Butterfly 3000 and Changes first, but for the channel probably makes sense to strike while it's hot.

I’m really excited for you to go through KG & LW. The songs are shorter and less zony, so just do a few songs per video. Also that stereo-high-hat-trick: they do it at next records a few times, you will definitely hear it on „honey“.

I'm the odd duck out in this fandom, but the title track is far and away the best song on this album. It's not just an excellent bookend to an already great penultimate track in Nuclear Fusion (which absolutely rips in a live setting when they let fans come on stage and speak into the distorted mic), but it's also the most technically proficient they got with their mixing in this era. A lot of fans look to Nonagon Infinity + their 2017 albums as the "golden age" of Gizz, and they haven't reached those heights again, but I totally disagree. For as lucrative and exciting as they were, they were still far less experienced than they are today, 6 years later, and these albums really only scratch the surface of what they would become, especially because their purposefully lo-fi recording apparatus of the time absolutely butchers a lot of their best cuts for me looking back. But when Stu decided he would actually learn how to play the zurna and put out a piece to end their very first, but certainly not their last microtonal exploration, the track had to grow up in sound quality to fully capture the tones, and it stands out in this era of Gizz as one of the most sparkly, well-thought-out and put together songs they made. And it leads perfectly into KG, as KG does to LW.

i adore their 2014-2016 era so much, probably because it was my introduction to their stuff, and polygondwanaland is easily my favorite album of theirs period, but even just the stuff from last year is so complex and absolutely incredible. changes is great, and change in particular is maybe one of the best songs theyve ever put out.
