I love it when they do an interview and stu is clearly tripping. "Youre just getting in there and youre thinking about something and you know you uh are thinking about the song and theres just music" Stu Mckenzie in an interview in 2015
This interview, among many, shows that - apart from the amazing amount of music they've created so far - the chemistry in the band is incredible which alone makes them one of the most interesting bands/groups of musician I've encountered in my musical life. Also I'm so glad that whenever I say "ok rock music is done" - something truly new and exciting appears. \m/ Coming from a 47yo electronic music enthusiast turned rock music fan again, travelling from NL to BE to see Gizz last year at Pukkelpop, then spending half my 2 weeks off-work this year travelling to Prague, Hamburg and back to Amsterdam to see each unique and amazing show by KGLW.
0:39 Based purely the 229 songs released on the 24 studio albums (and ignoring bonus tracks, b sides etc), there are 33,732,988,281,246,632,984,224,120,288,024 possible song permutations. So it would depend on how many songs in a set list. [EDIT 24/8/24] I've given this more thought and I can't remember how I arrived at the above number. If a set list was their entire (at the time) back catalogue of album songs, there would be 33,732,988,281,246,631,312,231,192,603,881,658,445,278,052,743,458,840,718,712,889,236,282,367,011,484,303,215,665,878,263,671,808,510,473,104,357,910,834,923,135,801,089,160,730,558,502,584,546,478,140,492,931,762,178,344,960,651,257,787,782,487,606,306,108,805,041,844,155,770,227,520,332,958,438,954,037,460,012,581,035,419,818,101,023,839,748,419,742,537,773,095,643,163,544,986,346,340,944,373,186,757,069,199,399,927,422,509,706,902,590,528,316,188,824,776,642,524,044,590,757,250,443,816,327,637,360,107,847,680,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible set lists where the order would be different each time. Given set lists contain far fewer than 229 songs, the number of possible set list permutations would be MUCH higher than that newly calculated number. Without any parameters set, it's impossible to determine exactly how many permutations there are. Oh, and updating that number to include songs from The Silver Cord, and Flight b741, it would be 847,809,747,782,853,428,162,385,614,555,484,172,813,716,330,038,393,266,614,306,888,547,483,324,326,458,559,715,895,819,236,467,405,327,442,329,682,630,071,789,503,824,810,226,668,938,465,375,221,421,478,501,619,519,016,431,211,258,306,843,984,600,018,680,684,699,129,200,342,991,286,010,101,141,191,392,319,487,892,821,710,751,341,634,617,090,843,411,664,746,702,478,340,313,338,347,309,216,297,036,908,822,399,205,735,512,679,067,130,965,761,217,294,141,638,428,587,515,529,230,511,566,627,641,340,593,733,206,374,732,779,182,724,941,422,228,676,645,372,087,500,800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 different permutations. Again, it would be an unfathomably larger amount of permutations if sticking to the regular number of songs in a general set list. To put that in perspective, the universe is 13.8 billion years old. This is the amount of permutations for EACH SECOND of the universe's existence*: 1,948,106,575,652,333,445,839,642,236,697,246,332,725,140,281,450,583,429,414,708,216,024,298,258,457,917,336,974,664,839,531,144,083,153,741,777,702,938,238,032,779,250,238,574,063,362,748,474,302,709,667,216,347,912,062,844,237,959,256,235,304,579,488,361,781,840,144,965,089,337,251,583,883,753,721,057,506,599,066,954,790,916,067,477,097,926,371,268,503,690,060,401,042,271,768,421,342,289,964,073,515,297,904,777,184,741,889,340,939,468,675,360,880,736,343,715,274,366,744,494,701,171,119,919,403,345,183,618,939,139,210,542,735,933,311,615,978,438,656,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Oh, and if these numbers seem too high, with just a 5 song set list of the 5 same songs, you could perform for 120 gigs and have a different order of those songs each time. *Calculation based on a 365 day year. Leap years and seconds not accounted for.
I actually first heard king gizz on rage. It was 10:00 pm in a hotel in newcastle and i was readying myself for bed. Rage was on the tv so i started watching it. I was really enjoying the music, so i couldnt convince myself to turn it off. Eventually, people vultures came on. It was awesome. I did that thing with google assistant where it can tell you the name of the song and band. Not too long after mic the snare did his king gizzard deep discog dive wich made my getting into the band way easier (although because I was using prime music i couldn't access most of their discography)
Combinations: 1.4 x 10 to the power of 23 for 200 songs, 15 songs (actually about 20, but I grouped some together). So there are literally unbelievable amount of combinations, trillions of trillions. I did the math some time ago!
Stu, don't worry about getting a "real" job. Your fanbase love you guys enough so you can live off this hopefully for a lot of years more. You just stick to releasing awesome music and giving tremendous shows. And yours is a "real" job, though. You are really hardworking and make people happy in the way and that's not to say of all "normal" jobs so don't undermine it.
Kind of. Rage is a program on the ABC rather than a standalone station. It airs quite often though, especially during the evenings when most networks play big bang theory reruns on repeat.
I thought this video was them talking about their thoughts on the band, "Rage Against The Machine", then I thought they meant it's their thoughts on the emotion, and then I thought there was a new drug called "Rage", that they were on. I need a better thought process...
