▼Synopsis
This is the remade drama of “Wakasamamono” written by a popular novelist Tatsuji Satte. Tsuyoshi Kato as Dr. Waka brandishes a sword to come up against the plot of Karo, related to the inheritance of Takane Han.
Toma (Tuyoshi Kato) is a son of a doctor in Takane, Yoshitomo Monzen. He was ordered by the sick federal lord and travel to Edo. It was said that Tsurunosuke, the man supposed to be the next federal lord, got a heavy disease, and the order aimed to make sure if it is true or not. On his way to Edo, Toma gave a hand to Kiku (Mayumi Okamura) who had a stomachache. However, she seemed to be in big trouble, and there were many Hanshi (officers) on the roads…

Loved this one. Sad that the love ending was sad. The moral of the loved ending is so bomb. Sad but great! Wish theirs a remake or part to this. Love it.

Yes its a simple plot, but in these times of upheaval and uncertainty, there is something to enjoy in a movie where the heroes succeed and the baddies get their comeuppance and decency wins - regards markc❤
The depiction of the "living sword & the killing sword with romance in the making, rare for a samurai movie.
This is a nice movie indeed. The doctor must realize that the end of Samurai is coming to an end so he study western medicine and science. He impart it to the children.
Great movie. A little bit of The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight and then at the end, I realized why to this day the Japanese still can't speak English so well and furthermore, why after WII in 1948, there was a sign from a Japanese person "We Pray for Gen. McArthur's Erection" when he ran for the Presidency of the USA.

Good job those samurai could not shoot straight or the heroes would have been dead forty minutes before the film ended. LOL
In a western film the palanquin taking the princess away would have stopped and she would have run into his arms , i like the way Japanese movies don’t go for the Holly weird route

Why Toma doesn't marry Kiku?
Because the Kiku he knows is a commoners, while princess yu higher status is making touma thinks his a commoner not fit to deserve marrying a princess. That is why princess yu gets jealous of her commoner when being Kiku where she can be loved by her own choice that is toumo. She can be herself, free as kiku. She can choose to and be loved by others like her crush lover touma. Touma did say he only know Kiku for a long time, but princess yu was newly introduced. The moral of the loved is so great here.

I think you need to understand the Japanese history of lovers committing suicide together. This story is notable but is understandable in the Japanese context. She is no Jeffrey Dalmer. The guy may have consented to being killed. It is not clear. A famous movie was made about his incident. She was a celebrity and a much admired symbol of sexual passion. This is why she got such a short jail sentence. The public loved her.
