Lovely little Mizpah locket! My pal Google has this to say: 'Mizpah jewellery was popular during the Victorian era from the mid- to late-1800s and was generally given to a loved one during a period of long separation such as military service or travel. It was generally given as a "forget-me-not," and symbolised a bond of love between two people...'❤
Glad to hear that there is a dig named in honour of Michael Hare. Michael was a friend of mine, who sadly took his own life last year, he was kind enough to have given two lovely coins, which he had just found on his last outing, they were just a G V florin and a G IV schilling, but I 've got them pride of place in my album. RIP Michael.
When I was in high school, my first boyfriend gave me a Mizpah. It was a coin with that same wording, intentionally "broken" to symbolize distance. Although we married others and raised families, I have kept mine as a sweet memory of young love. I really do enjoy all your videos!
The Lord watch between me & thee when we are absent one from another - Beautiful handmade piece, well done John, great find. You've been really fortunate recently.
The metal toy is what's left of a wheelbarrow pushed by a little man in a cap with rolled up sleeves and a red neckerchief. There's also a railway porter pushing a red version of the wheelbarrow
Great day out again John. Silver seems to jump out of the ground for you. As for the drone detecting, I’ll give that a miss thanks. The fun part of detecting is not knowing what’s coming next. The drone doesn’t dig the hole for you either. 😂😂 Keep up the great informative work and look forward to your next video.
Congratulations on more silver! Would love to send some of our extreme heat your way. It’s week 3 of 100+ deg F temps when 70-80 is normal. Hello from Oregon!
“Mizpah” jewelry was very popular in the Victorian and early Edwardian eras. The term comes from the Old Testament and is defined as an emotional bond between people who have been separated from one another.
Another epic day of finds! The Mizpah locket is amazing. Hmmm the drone looks good but not as much fun as metal detecting I'd imagine - hate to think of the cost too!!!!
Excellent video John and what unusual finds. That little heart is a treasure! Omg that Treasure Hunter drone, WOW! Probably expensive and may be of help to find bigger pieces I’d guess but you’ve still got to dig them up so doesn’t save the hard work 😂 Maybe if Regton start selling you might get one to try out 🤞Been using the Jethro programme and it’s quite good but will give it better go on our new permission tomorrow and see if we have your luck?
The silver streak continues! Nice MIZPAH. That drone would help with the large fields that you have permissions on. Run the drone over the field and then overlay the grid on your maps. Might find a path leading from a structure to something not listed on your map. But it would save you alot of time as you could concentrate on the part of the field with highest concentration of targets.
Great finds again, John! Well done, brother! As far as the drone, I'd fly it straight into a tree or have it disappear into the sky like my last one. Not for me lol
Good video you are so lucky to have those fields , two of us went out on Saturday for 4hrs and all we found was 2p but at least my bit of lead was bigger then my mates welcome to the sunny fields of Somerset
Sorry to hear that! I’d have thought you’d be dripping in finds down there. Perthshire is definitely top detecting in Scotland for sure. Best of all hardly anyone does it, so if you do get a permission it’s virgin territory!
Enjoyed as usual with your historical knowledge and great finds The thoughts of using a drone took me back about 25 years ago when i used to come back to England to do a series of Rallies in Essex called Noble Rallies where i met an Australien who worked for a mining company in Australia he would go with his team of detectorists to the outback and the moment they found an area of gold they would call in the mining company who would excavate the area so I think this drone will be replacing him and his team in the future . Incidently he had a full attaché case of gold crystals and nuggets with him which he was trying to sell (i had never heard of gold crystals before but they were spectaculer)
Congratulations Simon! Wish we could have seen your reaction when Spain won. :) I have had to delete 'friends' on Facebook who literally started abusing me as I supported Spain over England. Another great session John! Weirdly I knew that locket from the start said Mizpah. I had never heard of such a thing before but my Nana in the 1970's (Church of England) said she always wanted to get me a Mizpah ring or locket. I have no idea why! But amazing find :)

@thescottishdetectorist aye , not always possible to see things like that at ground level though . That's where a drone would come in handy, maybe on new permissions 👍👍
John, you're getting to an age where you need to get yourself a little jewelers loupe to carry with you so you can see the tiny writing! Ask me how I know... I carry one in my tool pouch and keep one hanging from my rear view mirror in the truck. They come in real handy for reading dates on toasty coins and silver and gold marks too. Good video as usual, very neat little locket, not sure what the little rectangular silver might go to, maybe something like a tiny pill or snuff box, but it's interesting. That sci-fi style detecting drone is also interesting, but there's a down side to having something located 100' deep. I don't know about you, but I'm probably not digging that up. Hi John, In the book of Genesis, Jacob had left his father-in-law Laban’s property because he had been cheated and deceived by Laban for many years. When Laban caught up with him along with many armed men, they had a confrontation, but the Lord had appeared to Laban and told him not to harm Jacob. The short of it is that they set up a stack of stones that was to be a border between the two of them because they didn’t trust each other and neither one of them was to ever cross over that stack into the other’s property.
