Could the first find be a bear? Enjoy watching, could you explain a little more about the numbers you give? That's a great silver hoard. I had one of those coin holders in the '50s, mine held sixpences.
Holy Batman John! That’s like finding an antique ATM in the fields of Perthshire. Well done! Worth all the sweat.
Haha 😂 good description Tanja! Yes quite the find and a sad loss for someone that’s for sure! Thanks for watching

WOW!! That's amazing to find a coin holder full of silvers... well done mate. Best Detecting channel out there......and 29.1k subs now. Keep it going John.
Definitely the best 😊
The coin holder you have found were used by Clippies or bus conductors. There were held on a belt and used to give out change after purchase of yer ticket. There should be a spring in the bottom of the holder to push out the coins as they were removed.
I well remember the coin holders that bus conductors used but I didn't think they were made from leather. Also they were made in different sizes to accommodate shillings, sixpences, threepenny bits etc. I think leather ones may have been made and sold to the gentry types and would have held 20x 1shilling coins possibly to stop coins wearing holes in your trousers ( which obviously didn't work in this case 😮) Congratulations on finding it 👍
Fantastic find John! The little toy looks like a bear 🐻. We have lots of them here in Colorado, USA 😉
The animal looks like a bear. I wonder if something could be buried beside/behind one of those standing stone gate posts. Such an amazing find with that coin holder. Vendors at ball games used to have similar coin holders in the forties and fifties.
What a fantastic find. Thank goodness this Scotsman didn't succumb to the scorching 25°C heat before stumbling upon the hoard. Way to go Johnno 🪙😁👍🏼😁🪙
Dont think the workers would have been paid that day for working in the field, the farmer lost their pay! Cracking find!
Thanks Pete. Great suggestion I think that’s what it was, for paying the labourers and it was a berry farm back in the 1940’s!
My thought exactly.
🤣🤣🤣 that’s amazing!!! Absolutely brilliant!!! 😂
Many thanks Emily. Amazing 🤩
That coin holder is bloody awesome
Wow! Now how many do anyone knows that have found coin holders packed with silver coins? That was amazing!
The owner of that coin holder must have been devastated on realising they had lost it.
Great find for you though John. 30k subs on the horizon!!!👍
Well done John , I can just imagine the local landowner walking that field losing that money holder , he must have been a wealthy man. Possible out overseeing their land army girls !!!
That’s awesome John! Mind goes wild thinking who lost that and what arguments occurred!😂
Maybe it was farm workers wages? Or a days takings from a market! Brilliant find mate
Thanks Mark. Yes quite a find and a sad loss for someone, maybe a weeks wages back then 😮
“80 Degrees, that’s the kind of temperature that could kill a Scotsman”. That’s memorable and hilarious!
Congrats, that really is a brilliant find and again I'm fascinated with your knowledge of Scotlands history and all the shenanigans of the Monarchy... Keep them coming 👍
Much appreciated Jim and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Thanks 😊
Leaping lizards! That was awesome! God bless😁🦎
Hello John 👋🏻
That's really like winning the Lottery 👏🏻🍀
What a loss for the Guy who dropped it once 😳
So many Pints of Beer, he couldn't enjoy anymore 🍻🍻
Well done, Mate 🍀🍻
The type of temperatures that could KILL, a Scotsman. I nearly spat tea all over my monitor 🤣
Haha 😂 thanks 😊
Immense find John, imagine how devastated the owner was back in the day!!! I'm thinking a soldiers war pay and lost it on the way home. And 80 years later its found. Beautiful story
That would be great to find out wouldn’t it. A terrible loss for someone, over a weeks wages back then 😮
@@thescottishdetectorist ouch, love your videos and depth of history. ❤️ from Manchester
That's a cracking find! Never seen that before!! Congrats¬!
“It’s the morning after the night before.” ….It sounds like a great opening line to a novel.
Amazing. I kept yelling to you "it's a roll of coins" and you finally heard me.
Ha! Very thoughtful of the detection gods to serve up such a nicely-stacked silver hoard! Did people use those dispensers instead of a change purse? That's a new one on me.
I'm loving your lead toy... which looks like a bear to me ; I laughed at your guesses lol
I love your videos !
Ahhh, of course it’s a bear 🐻 thanks!
Hi, what a glorious scoop, a bounty of silver coins - a real piece of history. A beautiful coin holder, bet it looks perfect when polished up . Also loved the bear/dog. btw your searing heat of 25 degrees 🥵 is my perfect winters day 😊🤣😂. Have a great day cleaning up your hoard.
Great find.....someone had a bad day when they lost that☹
Oh my gosh, I'd have a heart attack. That was so much fun to watch.
So glad you enjoyed and thanks for taking the time to watch!! Best wishes Lynda
I noticed the stones behind you when you were doing your intro. The lead figure I believe is a Britains Lion Cub, I think this was made 1949 to 1959 John, but not 100% sure at all. Oh my life!!! I was looking at the top of that thing and thought "Is that threaded?" and then it dawned on me.🤣🤣 That is amazing John!!! 👏👏👏👏Really look forward to your videos my friend.👍👍
oh wow wee...what a great find John...and all silvers to boot ! i can imagine that the farmer or farm worker who lost that missed out on a few cold beers there ! well hunted all the best GL&HH Gordon.
What a fantastic find that coin dispense was, congrats.
Woo hoo !! So exciting well done John 👍
Could not have happened to a nicer man! Congratulations!!🎉
What a dream find John. well done. The chances are it was lost in the 1940's because of the lack of Copper nickel .
Another thought I've had. In the late 1970's people were clambering for silver coins as they were being withdrawn. You'd look through your change for them. Silver was fetching 13x face value. It may have been from someone doing this. Those coin dispensers were popular around that time.
You should get a straw hat. Here in Texas where we have hot summers, we have learned that straw hats breathe and allow the breeze to flow over your head. Felt hats are for winter because they retain the heat and no wind can get through.
Let's go let's go treasure and adventure ✌👵
Top job pal….my best was a 19 century leather purse full of 14 florins. Best day ever.
Wow Richard. What a find that must have been
A dream come true, good for you John you totally deserve it
Oh, my GOODNESS!!! What a FIND!!! Congratulations, and I’m SOOO jealous! WOW!❤
What a fantastic find! You are such a lucky Scotsman! You should go out and guy a lottery ticket, with that kind of luck! Just make sure NOT to polish those coins, they are far more valuable in the condition they are in, in fact the best way to keep everything's value is to get the coin holder back into fully operating condition by removing the dirt and sand in it and then keeping the coins and the holder together as part of their display, showing how they were found. the bottom section of that coin holder should be threaded so it can be removed, either that or the top section but they had to have been able to put the thing together so it should come apart to be cleaned and then reassembled. What a beautiful find, though, this must have been a terribly expensive loss for whoever dropped it all those years ago. I feel for the poor guy who lost all that money. Money went considerably further back then, than it does today.
Unbelievable coin hoard John. Amazing that the coin holder stayed intact all that time! Well found M8. Cheers, John.
John, You had me cheering and sitting on the edge of my seat while you were taking out coin after coin after coin after coin…
Congratulations!!
Fantastic find!
Congratulations! That was a great hoard find! Remember to stay hydrated in that heat!
I love the history you share with us!
One man’s loss is another man’s gain. Poor guy or lady who lost it. Maybe chased by robbers and threw it, thinking they’d find it later. Can you imagine… amazing find.
What a find! That was exciting to watch and hear you describe. Well done!
WoW, the coin holder was amazing. And, I really liked the little animal as well. What a fun couple of finds. I hope your next trip is just as productive. Greetings from Texas, where the temperatures have been 105 to 114 degrees F for the last few days, that's even too hot for us native Texans. Stay cool and hydrated in the Scottish heat.
Many thanks David. Glad you enjoyed. Stay cool in Texas! I couldn’t handle that heat that’s for sure
John…you’ve perfected the art of metal detecting. Why dig silver coins, one at a time…when, instead, you can find a whole tube filled with collectibles. You’re truly Blessed, my friend. That coin holder has a spring, pressing against a sliding metal plate. So, you keep staking coins, until the spring is fully compressed. That coin holder can hold up to 20 coins…yep. Pretty COOL find. Blessings, from this old man in Tennessee.
Funny how you said it had turned to “junk” just before you realised what you had. Fantastic stuff, I’m always eagerly checking notifications for your latest content.
It’s strange how it sounded fairly good at depth then like junk once it was out! Lucky the signal was deep or I might have ignored it! I’m guessing the mixture of stainless steel and silver coins throws the machine
That's a bear!
What a pleasure to watch!
Thanks and I’m glad you enjoyed
Thank you John for sharing another exciting video with us. I remember as a child dreaming that I was finding coins on the ground. The finds were endless until I woke up and had nothing to show for it!
Your money clip was a real find of a life time!
Congrats on the coins! 🎉 I think that little lead figure might be a bear?
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!
Fantastic find John.. Well done lad! That's more silver coins in one hole than a lot of people find in a lifetime!😂 HH from Ireland.
Just: CONGRATULATIONS!!!! John. 🎊 🎉
Looks like a bear John! Cool little find! On with the show now..
Hi John, the little lead bear stamped with BR was manufactured by Britains, a British maker of lead toy soldiers, farm animals, and later on die cast toy vehicles. Love the shilling dispenser, shame it wasn't a sovereign one.
Thanks for the great info. Much appreciated
Congratulations on your find. My mother had one of those coin containers here in the USA. I used to play with it as a kid. She didn't use it, she just had it in her drawer with some random coins in it. You would push down on the top coin and slide it out or slide another in. I recognized it right away and had to contain myself from talking to the screen about how to work it. LOL
Happy memories!! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed
Oh wow! Want a find! All those beers. Your channel is so much fun to watch. The toy animal was a wonderful find too.
Congratulations John for finding this coin holder in the fields of Perth shire 😂😂🎉
Many thanks! A sad loss for someone…. Lots and lots of beer 🍺 money 😞
Find of a life time exceptional dig !
Many thanks Tony! Amazing and a sore loss that’s for sure!!
Wow! What a find,!
The coin holder is amazing. But filled with coins, unbelievable. The adrenaline rush must have been overwhelming.
Cheers. 👋🇨🇦
What a brilliant find! Your years of experience in Detectoring and patience have paid off. I love the show and I admire that you are so knowledge about your history.
Lead animal looks like it has a bear's head.
CONGRATULATIONS on the hoard. Some coins may be recent enough that your farmer may have known the person who stashed it.
In the US, it is getting more popular to connect a light handkerchief to the inside back of a hat brim to protect the neck from the sun.
Well done AGAIN.
I agree.. bear.. when I was a kid in the 1970s, I recall my mom saving little animals she would find in boxes of English tea. I recall they were porcelain and a few were metal? Could be way off... getting old is a challenge 😂
That's why The Word Rednecks come from 😊
That is so Awesome!!! Congrats on the find.
What a find!!! That's some pocket spill, imagine losing that? You'd be devastated. I wonder if someone stumbled while walking behind a horse drawn plough? Great video. Thanks.
A very sad loss. Would have been several weeks pay potentially 😢 and lots of beer money 😮
Amazing finds again. Wow. Thanks.
Many thanks much appreciated
John , the detecting gods definitely shine down on you !
John , still waiting on you to take those silver ingots to the museum to fine out for sure who made them and for what they were used for.
I love all the history you give with each find.
I remember when pound coins came out at first and they had those holders. I thought they were a new invention then lol. What an amazing find! It was great watching you go through them all!
That was a unique and special find. I can imagine some field manager using that to pay day laborers just after the war. Having lost it I could imagine a few workers being furious that they didn't get their pay and storming up to the farmers house demanding pay. Task master might have lost his job when he lost the coin purse lol
Thanks Ely. Yes around 1940’s it was a berry farm for strawberries and raspberries so I wonder if this was to pay the workers on a day to day basis for picking!
There like the old £1 coin holders on springs saved you carrying loads of change in your pocket, brilliant find you gotta luv this hobby, you just never know what's under your feet 💪💪💪💪 well done jonny boy 👍poor fella that dropped that would have been gutted 😢
Many thanks. Yes a very tough loss, over a weeks wages back then 😯
Congrats, so exciting
Many thanks 😊
What a great find! I'd say well worth digging in the heat. 😅 Listening to the excitement in your voice made it all the more fun to watch. Thanks for sharing and stay cool!
Many thanks Maureen, glad you enjoyed
Congrats on the coin holder full of silver!! I believe you dog is a bear.
Thanks Mike. Much appreciated, a beat makes much more sense now!
Wow that coin holder is amazing! Great find. I'd actually would like a modern version of that.
Apparently they were big in the 1930’s to 1980’s but I don’t remember them. Clever idea though!
Looks like your figure is a Bobcat or Lynx with the bobbed tail and big forward facing ears. Congrats on finding the coin holder....WOW could not happen to a better fella!
Much appreciated Shawn. Over the moon with that find !!
VERY very nice find!
Much appreciated
Hi,
What a find 🎉 never seen anything like That. Congratulations 😊
Many thanks 😊 a big loss for someone, over a weeks wages back then!!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😮😮😮😮😮😮
Congratulations 🎉 it was amazing to witness even on video!!!🎉🎉
Unbelievable!!! That would make my year!!! So very well done! Amazing content as always!!
Wow, the find is amazing and I hope the temps cool off 80 Fahrenheit is crazy for Scotland especially at 8am 🥵
Well done what a fantastic find all those coins and I love the dog ❤
Yes John!! What an absolute belter of a video I was as happy as you watching you remove them silvers from the holster!! What a great day and great video as always John thanks for sharing 👍
What an awesome find. Congratulations John 🎉🍻
Many thanks Andy. Must have been a sore loss for someone! Over a weeks wages in 1940’s
@@thescottishdetectorist I can imagine them searching for this for ages !
That discovery was amazing! Well done, John!! I'm so happy for you, that's like a detectors dream! Most of those coins are in excellent condition as well. The person who lost it must've been heartbroken.
I'm so glad you found that treasure, you deserve it!
p.s. I think that wee animal you found is a bear.
Wow!! WHat an amazing find!!
Glad you enjoyed. Yes I was over the moon with it!!! As was the farmer
My wee brain here in New York exploded while watching this. Incredible discovery of everyday life in Scotland. WHOA!!!!!😎
its like somthing that a train conducter used collecting fares
Many thanks Alan. Before my time I’m
Afraid but a great shout
That coin holder is just amazing!!!! Thank you for sharing. Love this channel!!!!
Oh my how fantastic a find was that!! This is what we detectorists dream of! Sure we all find the occasional 3 to 5 coin spill, but a jam packed coin holder full of silver coins!? So they are not really super old, but who cares. What a cool find! God bless you my man for sharing that. I wish you Continued success.
John, I live in South Florida and have spent a good bit of my life in other, tropical sunny places around the world.
Here's some advice for dealing with the rare, hot sunny days in Scotland:
Wear light colored, loose fitting clothing and hats. Being able to turn up your collar protects your neck from sunburn so, yeah shirts with collars. Polo or Golf shirts with long sleeves if you can find them.
Dark colors absorb sunlight and can overheat you so avoid dark shirts, hats etc.
As for the hat. A hat that you can wet also helps keep you cool. As the water evaporates from it it has a real cooling effect. When it starts to dry out, wet it again.
~ All the best M8
You must live a very righteous life. That's a genuinely amazing find and aren't you delighted that it wasn't a "fuse"!!! Congratulations!! I grew up in the 1950s and those little coin holders were a very common way of handling loose change.
our family loves to watch you find treasures....your # 1
Something you dream about, all I can say is Wow, Love the channel. 🇺🇸
Many thanks as ever Fred. See you on the next
Such a fun one!!! We are still getting hot, dry weather too!! Rain is lacking for our spring too!!! Weird spring!!🥰🥰🥰
Luv the coin holder, how fantastic!
Much appreciated, a really neat little find. The farmer was amazed too, thinks he even knows who lost it back then too!
Great finds once again.
Much appreciated and a sad loss for someone…. Over a weeks wages 😯
It tickles me when you equate the coinage to how many pints of beer it would purchase. Great finds, and keep up the good work. By the way, we're getting your "Scottish" weather here in East Tennessee. It's been raining for a solid week.
Wow what an Awesome find that little tube holding all them coins
Well done 👏
Many thanks. Not that old but still a bumper day!!
Wow your silver coin roll of our favorite guy was absolutely amazing! 🎉 What a difference a day makes! Think of all the squishy bottles of sunblock your going to have after this heatwave!
Haha 😂 thanks Jennifer glad you enjoyed…. And good thinking on the finds spray bottles 🤣
