- I've always wanted to take a canoe to one of the high mountain lakes I visit-not only to fish from, but also to get back into better camping spots. Well, I finally did it. Fishing from the canoe didn't work out as well as I had hoped, mostly because of the wind pushing my big old 16-ft canoe around. I then fished from the shore, but with no success-I ate my bacon and eggs for dinner. The next morning, after I had had my coffee, I took the canoe to the middle of the lake, dropped in my fishing rig, rowed back to shore, and then slowly reeled in. I did that four times. Right when I was ready to give up I had success! I caught a beautiful fall-colored brook trout, which made for a delicious camp breakfast!
My fishing kit consists of a 6' St Croix rod that breaks down into four 18 inch long pieces. My spinning reel is a Pflueger Parsp30. I catch most of my fish on a black marabou jig.
Most of my camp cooking gear, I design myself and have manufactured to my (very picky) standards-which I offer to my customers via my website. I do my best to keep my products simple and practical, drawing from my life's experience as an outdoor enthusiast, and my natural desire to figure out "the best way" to make things work. When the smell and sounds of civilization get to be too much, it is always good to clear your soul when looking across a lake, or up at the stars in a night sky.

I have that same Old Town Guide canoe. My local lake is lake mead and I can’t use it without two people cause it will blow over to one side of the lake and there’s nothing you can do about it! But with two people it’s a battleship! I’ve trekked through some hairy crap with it and it can carry 1250 lbs.

I’m completely white collar and I do all my hunting with a credit card at store and use the kitchen to cook, but I enjoy watching these videos and bought a firebox anyway hoping one day I’ll get to boil water for coffee at the very least

This guy is amazing!
I have used so many stoves. I really like that not only does he like to get out and about (and is an amazing family man) that he invented, tried and probably many times perfected his products!
You can use this stove for hours and it just keeps performing. And it is compact, I have a few made in China that fold but they are seriously bulky. And the titanium one is actually really lightweight.
Anyways I am a fan and my daughter is yelling at me to find the frosting because I am in the backyard with another firebox fire going!

At 9:20 that little snap on the water I guarantee was a bluegill you should try a couple of them. Fillet, battered and fried they are very tasty. Would be interesting to see it done in the woods.

Nice one! Beautiful fish. If you get a chance to try canoe trolling for walleye it's really, really fun. Throw on a heavy slip sinker and bounce bottom near steep breaks and weed edges. Pike are a great fish to target from the canoe as well, right in the weeds where motorboats can't go. Cheers and tight lines!

Try sitting in the other canoe seat. It will push a little more of the weight towards the center and make paddling with only one person in the large canoe much more enjoyable! I have had that same experience too many times!
