How to get Pantone Colors in your Adobe 2023 software.

- Adobe no longer supports free PMS colors in the 2023 version of their software. Here is how you can get your PMS spot colors into your Adobe apps with a few simple steps. These PMS colors were available in the Adobe 2022 apps and that is where I show you how to save them as an Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE) and load them into your 2023 Adobe apps.
Awesome! TIP: There is also an easy way to do it. (no copy/paste of swatches needed)
1. Install Adobe 2022
2. Open Adobe 2023
3. Go to Swatches>Open Swatch Library>Other Library>
4. Locate the swatch from Adobe 2022 folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2022\Presets\en_US\Swatches\Color Books) for PC
5. you're done!

I'm very unimpressed with Adobe/Pantone but massively impressed with the design community for taking the time to show us these brilliant workarounds. I never realized the real implications of the Pantone issues until this week as I embarked on my first Pantone colour job of 2023. I can't thank you enough for producing such a brilliant video. December 2023, oldest available version is 27.0 to install throught Creative Cloud, fortunately there are still pantone colors in it, thanks!

Thank you, this video was super helpful. I could no longer access Illustrator 2022 on CC, but fortunately my laptop still had a 2023 version to follow your steps to create the .ase file and I've emailed it to my desktop system where Pantone colors are now accessible again.
That appearance box tip was awesome. I've been trying to figure out for years why I had to press the shift key with the eyedropper to get a color. No more!

THANK YOU!!! I have literally had to visually color match using my.chip books which is incredibly time consuming. Ridiculous that Pantone has monetized these industry standards colors.

I ended up using the copy/paste .ase method that @cwecreative posted below ("this is great - really helped but you can just copy the .ase files from version 22 and paste into the new versions swatches folder for illustrator, indesign and photoshop. saves you exporting each of the colour files"), from 2022 to 2023.
Thank goodness for Time Machine...I went back and grabbed all Adobe CC 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 just in case for future use!

1. Install Illustrator 2022
2. With File explorer, locate the folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2022\Presets\en_US\Swatches\Color Books
3. Copy PANTONE+ Solid Coated.acb and PANTONE+ Solid Uncoated.acb
4. Paste both files to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2023\Presets\en_US\Swatches\Color Books
5. Done!

Brilliant, thanks so much. Work round for Mac, once you download the 2022 version. Just move "Pantone+ Solid Coated.acb" and "Pantone+ Solid Uncoated.acb" files from Illustrator 2022 - Presets - en_US - Swatches - Colour Books to the equivalent folder in the 2023 version.
Photoshop is similar, but you have to move colour books AND colour swatches I think.

Looks like Adobe caught on/changed thing and now it says, "...provides installers for only our current apps and the previous major version of each...". So as far as I know this workaround will not work anymore, unless you have a non-prescription app that you bought directly from Adobe and registered it. It you know of a newer workaround, help let me know.

Can anyone share the ASE file they have saved? I've looked on the previous versions, and Adobe have now removed all the versions pre-version 27.0!! So annoying!

Would you know a way to match colors that were chosen in the CMYK+Pantone to the Coated Solid Pantone color chart?
As the usual way (changing manually: Edit color/Recolor artwork) does not work anymore, I have troubles on that now, and eye picking does not seem optimal.

DUDE, YOU ROCK! Pantone can say whatever they want, but this is nothing more than a money grab. Quark did this kind of stuff years and now they're all but gone ... RIP Pantone!
