So love learning so many of the things involved with running a successful dairy farm/business. You and your dad run a prime operation!! You should be most proud of the work you do. I know as an avid milk and dairy product consumer, I am honestly glad there are folks like you who care about what you do. Love from Michigan.

Thanks Eric, I could smell the cow shit.
I'm limited mobility, I had bottle calves, and I enjoyed the scene.
I especially like the high quality of the breeding program you have achieved.
Your farm is small in comparison to others, but you know how careful you need to be to stay ahead of the profit game.
Watching the videos is like going home.

Great presentation Eric. Yea I fondly recall how my Dad used to say that their heard of milking cows had a high butter fat content, that the local milk truck would wait in barn the yard for them to finish milking (always by hand). Dad was proud of their dairy,,, glad you explained the milk testing. It was a different procedure with the 20 quart milk cans, maybe they may have tested each individual can. That dairy operation had to be stopped in the winter of 1952. (That gives you an idea of my age) From your 132 K subscribers it would seem that you have a very diverse demographic for a viewing audience. It's young farmers like you that will keep our country great. nose to the grind stone-full speed ahead !!!

Thank you for sharing these content data, not many do. Impressive yield, I was surprised by the "low content" with your feed ration but yield and content go together. Milking here with a dual-purpose breed (milk/beef) which deliver lower yields of 7700kg/year but 4.49% fat and 3.8% protein per cow; The lower kg yields are mostly offset by higher content (cheesemaking only so protein is paid much better) and higher value at end of life+calfs. We follow the urea content of milk to determine optimum triticale/grass/maize feed combination. Nice to see these tru-testers as well, we use an older verion. This is the beauty of farming, everybody does it in their way which fits best. Unlike factories there is no perfect optimum, we live with nature and its limits in the best way possible, no easy solution for all, but each is different depending on climate, ground, history, etc. Keep on going!

I noticed that the milk price has been increasing. The quoted price has gone from $13 to $17. In the NW Panhandle, I have a neighbor that Came from California because of our dry climate. Recently, Faria has built two large dairy barns that can milk 40,000 cows each. I can only imagine the staff needed as there is a lot being done each day on your dairy. Here much of the milk is made into cheese and dry milk products so Holsteins are not very common.

I remember first memories of my grandfather milking and having to dump the milk into buckets from the milking can. Then carrying the buckets to the cooler. Don't think I ever saw him put in a central type of system.
Uncle on the other had had a central system that collected each milker and sent it to the cooler. Best thing I remember about my uncle was ... his milking stool. Little stool with 1 leg .... Belted to his butt. Looked like a bee when he walked around. If he'd worn yellow and black .... He could have completed the look.
